  • Adam Cygman Wins Deepstack for $31,450

    Level:31 (100000/200000/200000)
    Entries:1/560
    Prizes:$159,600
Adam Cygman, Winner of Event #3

It was quite a run for Adam Cygman today. Most times, to win a poker tournament, a player has to play well and run well, and both were true for Cygman today. He was dialed in for most of the end game, making folds when he had to, and pushing the aggression when he could.

But he also ran well today, starting with a jump to the chip lead in a huge cooler that turned into a bad beat as well. Rauno Tahvonen was all in with aces, and looking good to double against the kings of Cygman with 25 players left. The board ran clean for Tahvonen in a spot that would have given him the lead and left Cygman on fumes — until the river king gave Cygman the set and cracked Tahvonen’s aces.

That was just one example og his run-good tonight, but in many other cases at the final table, he tank-folded in spots where he didn’t seem convinced he was behind, but opted to save chips in a marginal spot. In the final confrontation, it was a bit the run-good coming back to save him.

He was in with ace-deuce against the ace-four of McGearty. It was a hand that should chop most of the time, but Cygman smashed his deuce on the river for two pair after both players flopped an ace. He shoved the river, and McGearty tank-called after a couple of minutes in the blender.

This looks like Cygman’s 3rd live win, but first in eight years, with his previous two wins coming in 2017. This is his biggest score, however, with his previous best at $25k Canadian for his 2017 win in Event #1 of the DeepStacks Poker Tour at Grey Eacgle Casino. Once the prize is converted, it will likley add about 50% to his lifetime earnings on Hendon.

  • Seamus McGearty Out in 2nd Place for $18,434

    Level:31 (100000/200000/200000)
    Entries:1/560
    Prizes:$159,600
    Seamus McGearty

Seamus McGearty was always behind the 8-Ball in this heads-up match. The match started with Adam Cygman playing 11.2 million of the 14 million in play, so it would take a few doubles for McGearty to close the gap.

Two-handed play went for much of Level 30, and a good part of Level 31 as well, with nothing but small pots back and forth for each player. At one point, McGearty was able to chip up to around 4 million, but it all came down to a huge hand where both players flopped an ace.

I missed the preflop and flop action, but with the board reading K3AQ on the turn, Cygman bet 1 million and McGearty called. The river was the 2 and Cygman shoved, sending McGearty deep into the tank. He counted out his stack, muttering to himself, until he finally said “Gotta go with me gut” in his thick Irish accent.

He put in the rest of his chips for a call, and his gut was sort of on point. He had ace-four, which was a better ace than Cygman’s — at least until his deuce kicker hit the river. That gave Cygman two pair and the win, while McGearty had to settle for second tonight.

  • Curtis Singleton Out in 3rd Place for $12,768

    Level:30 (80000/160000/160000)
    Entries:2/560
    Prizes:$159,600
    Curtis Singleton

They are heads up now, and taking a short break, after Adam Cygman sent Curtis Singleton to the rail in 3rd place tonight. Cygman has been running pure at the final table, and he now has 11.2 million of the 14 million in play going into heads up with Seamus McGearty.

  • Cygman Has 9 Million

    Level:30 (80000/160000/160000)
    Entries:3/560
    Prizes:$159,600

Adam Cygman is a huge leader right now with around 9 million chips, while Seamus McGearty and Curtis Singleton are about even on about 2.5 million each.

  • Cygman Calls Ace-High

    Level:30 (80000/160000/160000)
    Entries:3/560
    Prizes:$159,600

Adam Cygman raised the small blind to 325k and Curtis Singleton defended his big with a call. Cygman check-called for 250k on the J37 flop. Both players checked the Q turn, but after a check from Cygman on the J, Singleton bet 450k. After a short tank, Cygman called, showing ace-five for ace high against the king-eight king-high for Singleton.

  • Cygman Clubs McGearty

    Level:30 (80000/160000/160000)
    Entries:3/560
    Prizes:$159,600

Seamux McGearty raised to 380k from the small blind and Adam Cygman called from the big. Action checked through the flop and turn on the board 710A9J and, after a check from McGearty in the river, Cygman fired 200k. McGearty called, but mucked when Cygman showed K5 for the club flush.

  • Cygman Flops It

    Level:29 (60000/120000/120000)
    Entries:3/560
    Prizes:$129,600

The money was in before the flop for a race beyween king-ten for Adam Cygman and pocket sevens for Curtis Singleton. Cygman smashed the flop on a board of JQ972. Despite turning the set, Singleton couldn’t catch up to the flopped straight for Cygman.

  • Denis Amirault Out in 4th Place for $10,374

    Level:29 (60000/120000/120000)

    Level:28 (50000/100000/100000)
    Entries:4/560
    Prizes:$159,600
    Cris Hillana

Cris Hillana shoved the small blind after it folded to him, but his timing couldn’t have been worse as big blind Seamus McGearty woke up with aces and snapped it off.

    Cris Hillana: 84
    Seamus McGearty: AA

Hillana turned a gutshot on Q93102, but bricked the river and ended his day in 5th place. There are 3 minutes remaining in Level 28 with a break following, and I’ll get accurate counts for the final four then

  • Edward Kershaw Out in 6th Place for $6,224

    Level:28 (50000/100000/100000)
    Entries:5/560
    Prizes:$159,60
    Edward Kershaw

Edward Kershaw had most of his stack in the middle to pay the big blind and ante when Adam Cygman raised under the gun to 200k. It folded around to Kershaw who put in the rest of his stack blind, with less than the raise from Cygman.

Kersahw was live and suited with 103, but he needed to his against the ace-queen for Cygman. Cygman turned a queen for the win on a board of 458Q3 and that was all he needed to send Kershaw to the cage for $6,224.

  • McGearty Leading

    Level:28 (50000/100000/100000)
    Entries:6/560
    Prizes:$159,600

Seamus McGearty is the big stack at the moment as the only player with more than 4 million. The counts below are just eyeball estimates, so they may not be exact.

    Level:27 (40000/80000/80000)
    Entries:6/560
    Prizes:$159,600
    Mason St. Martin

They are down to 6 left in Day 2 after Mason St. Martin hit the rail in seventh place. I missed the action while I was getting some dinner, but he earned $4,628 for his work today.

  • Victor Ma Out in 8th Place for $2,873

    Level:27 (40000/80000/80000)
    Entries:7/560
    Prizes:$159,600
    Victor Ma

There are seven left in Day 2 now after Victor Ma lost a race to Seamus McGearty. McGearty had the chip advantage when he raised to 210k under the gun, and Ma shoved from the big blind. Ma was on tens against ace-king for McGearty, and the A493A board was all McGearty, hitting trips on the turn.

As Ma was collecting his things to head to the payout desk, Curtis Singleton said he folded pocket nines, which would have boated up over McGearty’s trips.

  • Dan Duong Out in 9th Place for $2,474

    Level:26 (30000/60000/60000)
    Entries:8/560
    Prizes:$159,600
    Dan Duong

Day 2 is down to 8 players left after Dan Duong busted out in 9th place. I missed the action while I was updating the other two events running today.

  • McGearty Gets One Through

    Level:26 (30000/60000/60000)
    Entries:9/560
    Prizes:$159,600

Seamus McGearty opened under the gun to 155k, and he was called by Curtis Singleton in the cutoff, and Vistor Ma in the big blind. The flop was 78Q and, after a check from Ma, McGeart made it 175k to go. Singleton folded pretty quickly, but it took Ma a lot longer to take the same action.

McHreaty has chipped up since the break and is closing in on 2 million.

  • Johnny Dalphond Out in 10th Place for $1,995

    Level:26 (30000/60000/60000)
    Entries:9/560
    Prizes:$159,600
    Johnny Dalphond

I missed the action while I was uploading and processing pictures, but Johnny Dalphond was the first player off the final table tonight. There are nine players remaining, and the average stack is about 22.5 big blinds.

    Level:25 (25000/50000/50000)
    Entries:10/560
    Prizes:$159,600

They are at the final table now after Melissa Sekulich bubbled the final ten. She was very short, and got her money in blind. Victor Ma woke up with nines to put her at risk, but she was live with 105. The board missed her hand, though, and Ma’s nines held for the win.

They are setting up the final table now, with a break coming in just 3 minutes. I’ll grab chip counts at the break.

  • Final Table Bubble

  • Some Action in an Orbit at Table 26

    Level:24 (20000/40000/40000)
    Entries:15/560
    Prizes:$159,600

The blinds are now up to 40 minutes long with the field down to two tables. I just watched an orbit of action at Table 26, and there was certainly some action.

Hand 1: Melissa Sekulich shoved a short stack from the middle and was called by Amarjot Brar, but they were both on ace-queen and chopped it up.

Hand 2: Victor Ma raised to 85k and took the blinds and antes.

Hand 3: Victor Ma raised the hijack to 80k, but folded when Cris Hillana three-bet the button to 215k.

Hand 4: Rick Kosterman limped the button, and Johnny Dalphond checked to the J54. He check-folded to a bet of 50k from Kosterman.

Hand 5: Seamus McGearty shoved the button, and Johnny Dalphond called from the big blind with less. McGearty was on queen-jack against ace-king for Dalphond, and when the board missed both players, Dalphond’s big slick took it down.

Hand 6: Victor Ma raised the middle to 100k and got calls from Dan Duong to his left, as well as Edward Kershaw on the big blind. Kershaw checked the QJQ flop, Ma bet 40k, Duong called, and Kershaw mucked. When the turn put a third queen on the board, Ma fired 150k, enough to push Duong out.

Hand 7: Victor Ma opened early to 80k, and Johnny Dalphond reraised to 250k all-in from the cutoff. Ma called with a suited ace-nine against ace-king for Dalphond. Dalphond was a little disgusted when the A9J lop gave Ma two pair, but another jack in the turn counterfeited Ma and gave Dalphond the higher two pair for the win.

Hand 8: Dan Duong opened early to 100k, and Amarjot Brar shoved the small blind. Victor Ma reshoved the big blind, and Duong quickly mucked. Brar was on a suited king, but he was in rought shape to the queens of Ma. The queens held on a board of 1010636 and Ma was up to more than 2.2 million, while Vrar was down to about 250k.

Hand 9: It folded to Amarjot Brar on the button, and he shoved his short stack. Ma woke up with it again, this time tabling aces against Brar’s suited queen-three. The aces held and Ma was up to about 2.5 million while Brar hit the rail in 17th.

Meanwhile, on the other table, Ben Locker was the first player to bust from the final two tables. He flopped trips with 98 but got crushed by a four-card club flush. Chris Vermette also hit the rail while I was writing this update, bringing the field to 15 now.

  • Stacie Christensen Bubbles Final Two Tables

    Level:23 (15000/30000/30000)
    Entries:18/560
    Prizes:$159,600

Dan Duong started a limp-fest with an under-the-gun limp. Stacie Christensen, Victor Ma, and Johnny Dalphond also came along to the 106K flop. Ma bet 30k from the small blind, Dalphond folded the big, Duong called, but Christensen shoved. Ma got out of the way quickly, but Duong called just as quickly.

It was a flopped cooler as Christensen hit the flop with king-eight, but Duong smashed it with a pair of kings. 2A on the runout didn’t change anything and they are down to 18 left now.

  • Locker Gets the C-Bet Through

    Level:23 (15000/30000/30000)
    Entries:19/560
    Prizes:$159,600

Ben Locker raised the cutoff to 60k, and Cris Hillana called from the big blind. Hillana check-folded when Locker continued for 45k on the J3Q flop. Locker had chipped up a bit since the break, and this hand put him on almost 600k while Hillana is still above 1 million.

  • Six Millionaires in the Field

    Entries:25/560

The field is down to 25 entries, and one recent hand was a huge cooler to send Rauno Tahvonen home in 27th place. He had aces against kings for Adam Cygman, and when all the money was in the pot was more than 500k. It looked good to Tahvonen to double and leave Cygman on fumes, but a king on the river flipped the script and sent Tahvonen to the rail while Cygman grabbed the chip lead.

The Summer Super Stack at Deerfoot Inn & Casino has been performing very well in terms of fields and prizes. Event #3: $340 Deepstack was no exception; on the contrary, it was the biggest game of an already big series to date.

When the dust settled on three flights of play, there were 560 buy-ins in the kitty, for a total prize pool just shy of $160k. After discussions with Poker Manager Landon Lacroix, we are fairly certain this is the biggest multi-day field in a non-Circuit at Deerfoot event since 2022 and the post-pandemic craziness.

There are 56 players returning, all in the money, for Day 2 action. Unusually, the top two stacks for Day 2 were bagged in the opening flight, the smallest of the three Day 1s. Giulio Rosati bagged the big stack of almost 700k after a huge end-of-night cooler went his way to burst the 1a bubble. Curtis Singleton also bagged up mountains on 1a with almost 600k.

Keirin Yellowfly bagged the big 1c stack, but his 505k could nly manage 3rd overall. Seamus McGearty, also from 1c, managed to slip into 4th with 470k, while the 1b leader, Jordan Qiao, is less than 5k behind McGearty for 5th overall.

The Day 2 action gets underway at 12 noon, and action is likely to be fierce from the start. There are 12 stacks under 100k, with the opening blinds at 3k/6k/6k, and 5 that are 75k or less. Those stacks will need to move fast as the action will start partway through Level 16, and the sub-75 stacks will be playing less than 10 bigs within a few minutes of the start of the day. Even the 100k stacks will be starting to worry with blinds of 4k/8k/8k, giving them barely 12 bigs.

Blinds will play for 30 minutes before increasing once they get into Level 17, but the levels will go to 40 minutes for the final two tables. They’ll be playing this one until a winner is decided, and it could be a long one, given the field.

  • Day 1c is Complete with 25 Players Remaining

    Level:18 (6000/12000/12000)
    Entries:25/252 (56/560 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $71,820 (Combined: $159,600)

Keirin Yellowfly looks to be the biggest stack from Day 1c, though there was one player who didn’t report their stack on the slip, so they show as DNR. Yellowfly was big throughout the final part of the night and ended up on more than 500k to end the day.

That will still put him behind the two Day 1a chip leaders of Giulio Rosati and Curtis Singleton, but both he and fellow 1c bagger Seamus McGearty bagged in front of the 1b leader Jordan Qiao. Nush Alemzadeh, Stacie Christensen, and Dan Duong round out the top five from 1c.

Stay tuned for the opening post for Day 2, including all stacks and seat assignments for the 56 returning players, and see below for the 1c bags, sorted by stack.

  • Three Off the Bags

    Level:18 (4000/8000/8000)
    Entries:28/252 (59/560 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $71,820 (Combined: $159,600)

There are 28 players left in Day 1c of the Deepstack, with the bags coming out at 25. They’ll go hand-for-hand at 26 players, then play with the clock paused and two minutes coming off the clock manually for each hand until the final elimination happens.

  • Full Prizes under Payouts

    Level:16 (3000/6000/6000)
    Entries:35/252 (66/560 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $71,820 (Combined: $159,600)

The full list of prizes is posted under the Payouts tab, but four players on Sunday can expect to get five-figure payouts. See below for a look at the top nine prizes.

    PlacePrize
    1$31,450
    2$18,434
    3$12,768
    4$10,374

    6$6,224
    7$4,628
    8$2,873
    9$2,474
  • Final Four Tables, 11 Off the Bags; $31,450 for the Winner

    Level:16 (3000/6000/6000)
    Entries:36/252 (67/560 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $71,820 (Combined: $159,600)

The prizes are in, and the field is confirmed at 560 entries for almost $160k in prizes. 252 of those entries came from the 3rd flight, and the grand total makes for the biggest multi-day game in a non-Circuit series since 2022.

The field is now down to 36 left on the final four tables, and among the players still alive are Ben Locker, Keirin Yellowfly, Amir Khan, Graham Lupton, Ramez Haymour, Jerry Li, Edward Kershaw, Seamus McGearty, Melissa Sekulich, Duane Wong, Kim Pham, Johnny Dalphond, and Rick Kosterman.

  • Less than 20 from the Bags

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:44/252 (75/560 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $71,820 (Combined: $159,600)

The players are just about to return for Level 15, and they are closing in on the end of the night. The field is down to 44 players left, with the bags coming out at 25. With the current pace, it looks like it should be done sometime in Level 16 or 17, but there’s still a lot of poker to play before then.

  • Just Shy of $160k in Prizes

    Level:12 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:90/252 (121/560 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $71,820 (Combined: $159,600)

The entries are now closed for Event #3, and it’s a whopper. The final tally for 1c is at 252, though I’m still waiting for the prizes to confirm the numbers.

If today’s flight holds at 252, that will mean a combined field of 560 entries for prizes of $159,600. I had a look around at the recent break and found a few big stacks. It looks like the big stack in the room is 240k, but there are two of those, belonging to Edward Kershaw and Keirin Yellowfly. Chris MacPherson is playing a bit more than 230k, while Glenn Baker and Michael St Pierre-Porter are both playing stacks slightly shorter than 200k.

  • About 40 Minutes to Enter

    Level:11 (1000/2000/2000)
    Entries:92/243 (123/551 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $69,255 (Combined: $157,035)

The combined field is now over 550 entries, and there are still about 40 minutes left to get into this final flight. The combined prizes are a bit more than $157k, but if they can manage to find 11 more entries in the next 40 minutes, the prizes will cap $160k.

  • Nearing $155k in Prizes

    Level:10 (800/1600/1600)
    Entries:116/235 (147/543 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $66,975 (Combined: $154,755)

There is just over an hour to get into this final flight to the Deepstack game. Level 10 has about 25 minutes remaining, and the current 1c field is at 235 entries for a combined total of 543. That puts the prizes one entry away from $155k.

  • More than $150 in Prizes

    Level:9 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:138/223 (169/531 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $63,555 (Combined: $151,335)

The combined prizes are now over $150k, with 223 entries on the board now for 1c. The players are back at the felt for the final three levels of entry, and it’s likely we’ll see another 10-20 entries at least. It doesn’t look that likely they’ll hit 250 entries for today’s flight, but 240 is well within sight.

  • 3 Entries from $150k

    Level:8 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:135/216 (166/524 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $61,560 (Combined: $149,340)

The 1c field is now at 216 entries, with the players now on their 45-minute dinner break. The combined field is now at 524 entries for prizes of $149,340, but there’s still more than 2 hours to enter this final flight.

  • Some More Familiar Faces

    Level:7 (400/800/800)
    Entries:137/200 (168/508 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $57,000 (Combined: $144,780)

The 1c field just hit 200 entries, and is now one entry shy of a combined prize pool of $145k. I just had another walk around the room and spotted a few more notable players in the mix, including Angelo Jopek, Jerry Li, Paul Sokoloff, Caleb Simmons, Toms Varghese, Hassan Issa, Michael St Pierre-Porter, Mike Smith, Wayne Hoffert, Preston Stevenson, Tony Ma, Ben Locker, and Darcy McDonald.

  • More than 500 Entries Combined

    Level:6 (300/600/600)
    Entries:145/194 (176/502 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $55,290 (Combined: $143,070)

The 1c field is now at 194 entries, for a combined total of 502. That puts the prizes at just over $143k, and the field is 25 entries short of $150k in prizes. They’ll hit that figure if today’s flight gets to 219 entries, and with 3.5 hours still left to enter the game, that looks like a pretty easy number to hit.

  • More than $140k in Prizes

    Level:5 (300/500/500)
    Entries:154/184 (185/492 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $52,440 (Combined: $140,220)

There are more than 180 entries for today’s flight, and the prizes just capped $140k. There are now four hours left to enter this flight, so a final number in the 225 range is still easily within sight.

Among the recent entries to the game were Scott and Bridget Calvank. Scott won a Seniors ring here last year, while Bridget final tabled the Seniors game in last year’s Fall Super Stack here at Deerfoot.

  • April Numbers in the Dust

    Level:5 (300/500/500)
    Entries:145/164 (176/472 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $46,740 (Combined: $134,520)

The field for this Deepstack has now officially capped the April total, with more than 4 hours left to enter today’s final flight. The combined field is now 472 for prizes just shy of $135k.

Dane Alisasis, Raph Vergugo, Bill Thomson, Duane Wong, Erich Leidums, Ross Wilson, Melissa Sekulich, Johhny Dalphond, Nash Ramahi, Don Fujita, Daniel O’Leary, Amir Khan, John Foley, Phil Wright, and Chase Cromwell.

  • More than 150 Entries

    Level:4 (200/400/400)
    Entries:151/154 (182/462 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $43,890 (Combined: $131,670)

The combined field is now just three entries away from April’s numbers, with 462 in the field right now. That makes for prizes of more than $130k and climbing.

Today’s field is now less than 50 entries away from beating the 1c field for April, and around 70 away from $150k in prizes.

  • Less than 20 From April Total

    Level:3 (200/300/300)
    Entries:140/140 (171/448 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $39,900 (Combined: $127,680)

The 1c field is up to 140 entries, putting the combined total up to just shy of 450. In April, this game ended with 465 entries, so the Summer Deepstack is less than 20 entries away from April’s total, with more than 5 hours left to enter today’s game.

There are still a steady stream of players coming to the buy-in desk, so the numbers continue to grow and $150k in prizes is still completely reasonable. Among the players in the game today are Seamus McGearty, Patricia Kananda, Pete Fylyma, John Hansmeyer, Marcio Kondo, Jacqueline Ray, David Johnson, Seniors winner Graham Lupton, Tyler Bourassa, Scott Johnson, Shane Brotherwood, Mohsen Shafazideh, defending champ Shane Chief, and Kim Pham.

  • $125k and Climbing

    Level:3 (200/300/300)
    Entries:131/131 (162/439 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $37,335 (Combined: $125,115)

The combined prizes are now more than $125k as Level 3 gets underway. There’s still a steady stream of new entries and rebuys happening at the desk, so the numbers will keep climbing pretty rapidly. It’s still looking good for a field of 225+ in today’s flight, which is enough for $151k in prizes. If the field makes it to 254 today, that would mean $160k in prizes.

  • More than 100 Entries in Level 2

    Level:2 (100/200/200)
    Entries:116/116 (147/424 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1c: $33,060 (Combined: $120,840)

As expected, Day 1c is turning into a big day for the Deepstack. With about half of Level 2 complete, the field is already well over 100 entries for today’s flight, with the three-day total at almost 425 entries.

Combined prizes so far are at more than $120k and climbing, and given the current pace of entry today, it looks like $150k in prizes will be easily within reach.

  • Third and Final Flight for Deepstack is Up for Saturday

    Date:Aug 2, 2 PM
    Blinds:30 Minutes
    Starting Stack:25k
    Late Entry:11 Levels (~8:45)
Day 1 Ends:10% of the Field
    Entries:31/308
    Prizes:$87,780

The Deepstack game is already a big one, with the numbers for this series well ahead of the Spring edition of this game. At the end of Day 1b, the field was at 308 entries, 44 ahead of the two-day total in April for this game.

Both flights so far have gone above their April numbers, and it seems reasonable to suggest 1c will do the same. April’s 1c saw 201 entries, and given the pace so far, that seems like an easy number to hit for 1c this time around. More likely, the final Summer flight will end up with 225-250 entries, which will mean more than $150k in total prizes if either of those numbers is met.

There are 31 players already waiting for Day 2 from the opening two flights, and another 10% from 1c will also move forward. That should mean there are well over 50 players returning in the money for Day 2 on Sunday. The current leader is Giulio Rosait, who bagged almost 700k in Day 1a, with his 1a second, Curtis Singleton, still second for Day 2. Jordan Qiao was the big stack from 1b, but his 465.5k could only get him third overall for Day 2 so far.

Day 1c will be another redo of 1a & 1b, just with a lot more chips in play. They’ll start with 25k and play 30-minute levels until just 10% of the field remains. There are 11 levels of open entry, and the final chance to get into this event will come about 8:45 PM Saturday night.

It was a pretty late night for me on Friday, so I will almost certainly be late to the 1c flight on Saturday. I’m hoping to make it in by the first break of the day.

    Level:18 (5000/10000/10000)
    Entries:18/180 (31/308 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $51,300 (Combined: $87,780)

The final hand was played during Level 18 tonight, and there were 18 bags at the end of it all. Jordan Qiao bagged the big stack from 1a with 465.5k, while Kimberly Durham and Reg Hampton are also playing stacks in the 400k range for Day 2.

That means that Qiao is currently sitting third in the Day 2 stacks, behind the two big stacks from 1a, Giulio Rosati and Curtis Singleton, but Day 1b players occupy spots 3 through 9 in the Day 2 list.

  • Bubble Time

    Level:18 (5000/10000/10000)
    Entries:19/180 (32/308 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $51,300 (Combined: $87,780)

They are down to 19 players remaining in Day 1a, and the clock is now paused for hand-for-hand play until the next elimination.

  • Slow Progress in 1b

    Level:17 (4000/8000/8000)
    Entries:23/180 (36/308 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $51,300 (Combined: $87,780)

There hasn’t been much movement on 1b since they came back from the break. They lost one player to bring the fiekld to 23, but they still need to lose 5 more players before the end of the night. There are about 12 minutes remaining in Level 17.

  • 8 Players to Go in 1b

    Level:16 (3000/6000/6000)
    Entries:26/180 (39/308 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $51,300 (Combined: $87,780)

They are down to 26 remaining in Day 1b of the Deepstack with Level 16 just underway. That puts them 8 eliminations away from ending the night, so it’s an open question whether they’ll finish before the end of this level. They’ll keep playing until they reach 18 players, with hand-for-hand play set to begin when they hit 19.

  • Malm Still Leads

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:33/180 (46/308 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $51,300 (Combined: $87,780)

Mike Malm still looks to be the big stack in the room, with Level 15 just underway. They are still 16 eliminations away from the bags, so it’s starting to look like they may play a little later than Day 1a did.

  • 16 Players to the Bags

    Level:14 (2000/4000/4000)
    Entries:34/180 (47/308 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $51,300 (Combined: $87,780)

The 1b field is down to 34 players left, with the target number set at 18. That puts them 16 eliminations away from the end of Day 1b. There are about 10 minutes to play in Level 14, and players will go for a break following this level.

Day 1a ended with about 10 minutes to play in Level 16, and based on the current pace, it looks like 1b will likely end around the same time tonight.

  • Down to 48 Remaining

    Level:13 (1500/3000/3000)
    Entries:48/180 (61/308 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $51,300 (Combined: $87,780)

The 1b field is down to 48 players left now, which puts them 30 eliminations away from the bags. There are about 20 minutes to play in Level 12, and as a reminder, play will continue tonight until they hit 18 players, no matter how long that takes.

  • Malm, Loomer Still Big

    Level:12 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:70/180 (83/308 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $51,300 (Combined: $87,780)

Day 1b is now over $50k in prizes with 179 entries on the board. Entries will be closed in moments for today, but with close to 180 entries, the numbers are crushing this event’s field from April, when Day 1b ended with a combined total of 264 entries, compared to 308 for the Summer version.

After a quick look around on the break, Mike Malm looks to still be leading with about 321k, while Debi Loomer is playing more than 250k for what looks like second place.

If the numbers for today hold at 180, that will mean 18 players advance later tonight.

  • About 30 Minutes to Enter

    Level:11 (1000/2000/2000)
    Entries:74/174 (87/302 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $49,590 (Combined: $86,070)

There are less than 15 minutes remaining in Level 11, with entries set to close after the break following this level. That puts the end of entries for Day 1b a bit less than 30 minutes away, but there is still a full flight to run on Saturday before the final field is set.

The combined field is over 300 entries now, so it seems very likely that the final field for this game will be well over 500 entries, and a final prize pool of $150k is completely within sight right now.

  • More than 170 Entries

    Level:10 (800/1600/1600)
    Entries:72/172 (85/300 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $49,020 (Combined: $85,500)

The combined field is up to 300 entries now with 172 on the board for 1b. That puts the combined prizes at more than $85k, with about an hour left to enter this flight and a full 3rd flight to run on Saturday. Given today’s numbers, 200+ for 1c seems like a lock, meaning the final field will almost certainly be over 500 entries with prizes in the $150k range.

  • Malm is Big on Dinner

    Level:8 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:94/160 (107/288 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $45,600 (Combined: $82,080)

The 1b players are on their dinner break now with the conclusion of Level 8. I had a quick look around the room just before they left for dinner, and Mike Malm is among the big stacks at the dinner break. He’s playing more than 200k, but Debi Loomer is also big with about 185k.

There are three more levels of late entry when they return from dinner, putting the end of entries about 2.5 hours away. It’s like the pace of rebuys will slow a bit after dinner, but it still looks reasonable to guess that the final 1b field will be in the range of 170 entries for combined prizes of almost $85k and a full flight yet to run on Saturday. With an average turnout for Saturday’s flight, the final prize pool for this game should easily be flirting with $150k.

  • Nearing 160 Entries

    Level:8 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:90/156 (103/284 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $44,460 (Combined: $80,940)

The combined prizes are already over $80k and climbing. There are a bit less than 3 hours remaining in entries for Day 1b, and a full Day 1c flight to run tomorrow, so there’s a very good chance of this game flirting with 500 entries or more by the time entries close on Saturday evening.

  • Up to 140 Entries

    Level:6 (300/600/600)
    Entries:102/140 (115/268 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $39,900 (Combined: $76,380)

The prizes are now pushing toward $80k with 140 entries on the board for 1b so far. That puts the combined field at 268 entries and climbing. There are still more than 3 hours left to enter today’s flight, and a full flight still to run on Saturday, so it’s looking like 500+ entries for this game isn’t out of the question.

I’d expect today’s field to top out somewhere between 150 and 160 entries, but there’s still lots of time to go even bigger than that. If they hit 160 entries today, that would put the 1b prizes over $45k, and the combined prizes of more than $80k.

  • Two Off the 1a Numbers

    Level:5 (300/500/500)
    Entries:102/126 (115/254 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $35,910 (Combined: $72,390)

The 1b field is just two entries off the 1a total, with action still at the first break of the day. There are 126 entries so far today, with more than 4 hours left to get into today’s flight, and a full flight yet to run tomorrow.

In April, the 1b field was 146 entries, which means they only need 20 more today to crack that number, so a second flight above the April numbers seems like a lock at this point. The combined prize pool right now is over $75k, and the final prize pool is looking like it could be in the $125k range by the end of entries on Saturday night.

  • More than 100 Entries in Level 3

    Level:3 (200/300/300)
    Entries:108/108 (121/236 combined)
    Prizes:Day 1b: $30,780 (Combined: $67,260)

There are just under 10 minutes remaining in Level 3, and the field is already nearing 110 entries. With the current pace, there’s a solid chance that today’s field will beat the 1a field before the first break of the day, as there are about 40 minutes until the break, and they only need 18 more entries to meet the 1a total.

As usual, there are lots of familiar faces in the crowd, including Trevor Argue, Michael St Pierre-Porter, who bubbled 1a in a gross cooler at the end of the night, Debi Loomer, Pete Fylyma, “Handsome” Gord Chester, Hongwei Liu, Todd “The Rock”, Amir Khan, and Jordan Banfield, who is fresh off a big win at Playground Poker Club.

  • Day 1b for the Deepstack is on Deck

    Date:Aug 1, 2 PM
    Blinds:30 Minutes
    Starting Stack:25k
    Late Entry:11 Levels (~8:45 PM)
Day 1 Ends:10% of the Field

There is already one flight to Day 2 of the Deepstack on the tarmac with 13 players making their way through the day. Players will have another shot at a Day 2 bag on Friday in Day 1b, and they’ll all be chasing the 1a leader, Giulio Rosati. Rosati woke up with kings to burst the 1a bubble and take the chip lead over 2nd place Curtis Singleton, who had some luck of his own, catching a set of deuces to take a big pot and send Patricia Kananda home a few places off the end of the day.

Day 1b will be a repeat of 1a, though the expectation is always that the flights get bigger and bigger. Players still start with 25k in chips for 30-minute levels. Entries are open for almost 7 hours, with the desk shutting down at the start of Level 12, or about 8:45 PM. While the structure says Day 1 ends at the end of Level 16, they are actually playing down to 10% of the field no matter how long it takes, to ensure all Day 2 players are in the money.

I should on-task for this one pretty close to the start of play, and it will be my main focus until the bag up around midnight.

  • Giulio Rosati Leads the 1a Stacks

    Level:16 (3000/6000/6000)
    Entries:13/128
    Prizes:$36,480

Giulio Rosati was the player to burst the bubble on Day 1a when his kings sent Michael St Pierre-Porter home just before the bags. That propelled him into the chip lead with 682,500, around 100k more than second-place Curtis Singleton. Both Roque brothers also bagged chips today, with Philip on just under 100k, and Julius on more than 300k.

  • Day 1a is Complete

    Level:16 (3000/6000/6000)
    Entries:13/128
    Prizes:$36,480

Day 1a is finished with 20 minutes remaining in Level 16. Michael St Pierre-Porter was the unfortunate bubble tonight when he couldn’t find an ace with ace-king against the kings of Giulio Rosati. Rosati ran out to a four-card club flush just to accentuate the point.

Stay tuned for chip counts from the remaining 13 players.

  • Bubble Play

    Level:16 (3000/600/6000)
    Entries:14/128
    Prizes:$36,480

They are one off the money in Day 1a now with 14 players left. The clock is now paused for hand-for-hand play with 2 minutes coming off the clock manually for each hand played until the next elimination.

  • Two Off the Bags

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:15/128
    Prizes:$36,480

They are down to 15 left in Day 1a of the Deepstack, with about 5 minutes to play in Level 15. The average stack is more than 40 big blinds this level, dropping to about 35 for Level 16, but it still seems likely the bags will come out before the end of Level 16.

  • Playing to 13 For Sure

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:18/128
    Prizes:$36,480

The TD just informed the players that they’ll be playing down to 13 players no matter how long it takes. While the structure sheet shows Level 16 as the end of Day 1 play, to ensure all Day 2 players are in the money, they will play each flight to 10% whether it takes more than 16 levels or not.

  • 20 Players Remain

    Level:14 (2000/4000/4000)
    Entries:18/128
    Prizes:$36,480

Theya re down to 20 left in Day 1a now. Level 14 is nearly complete, with a break scheduled following this level. It looks like Curtis Singleton is leading the field right now with more than 500k in front of him, but Giulio Rosati, seated next to him, has more than 400k as well. Julius Roque also has a decent stack, as usual, with around 320k in play.

Singleton just related how he got his stack of more than half a million. He got into a huge cooler with Patricia Kananda earlier that sent her to the rail when he cracked her aces with a set of ducks. While he hasn’t been playing with a rubber duck quite as often recently (he’s been using a different card protector recently), Singleton is still a fan of the deuces.

Other players still active in the game include Henry Yang, Ron Giles, Debi Loomer, Francis Lagos, Mike Malm, and Michael St Pierre-Porter. There are 18 players left in the game now, putting them 5 players or 2 levels away from the end of the night.

  • 128 Entries Confirmed for 1a

    Level:14 (2000/4000/4000)
    Entries:23/128
    Prizes:$36,480

The final tally for Day 1a of the Deepstack game was 128 entries. That put $36,480 into the prize pool from the opening day, and with the expectation of bigger days on 1b and 1c, it looks pretty safe to assume the prizes for this game will be well over $100k by the time entries close for good Saturday night.

With 128 entries, at least 13 players will be advancing to Day 2 from today’s action. If they play down to 13, just 10 eliminations from the current number, before the end of Level 16, they’ll bag up early; otherwise, whoever is still alive at the end of Level 13 will get a bag. Only 10% of the field will get paid, and players must put chips in a bag for Day 2 in order to qualify for a payout.

At most, there are about 90 minutes left in tonight’s action, but they may well bag up early. The average stack is still a bit more than 30 big blinds, so they are fairly deep, and it could easily go the distance, but a few quick eliminations on coolers aren’t out of the question either.

  • 30 Minutes to Enter

    Level:11 (1000/2000/2000)
    Entries:45/124
    Prizes:$35,340

There are about 30 minutes left to enter the opening flight for Event #3. The current field is at 124, which is already 6 above the April numbers for this opening flight. It seems likely we’ll get a couple more entries before the end of registration, but the final field numbers for today will almost certainly be 130 or less.

  • April Numbers Met

    Level:9 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:65/118
    Prizes:$33,630

The 1a field just equalled the numbers from April’s opening day, and there are still about 90 minutes to enter the game. That means today’s numbers will certainly end bigger than April — the only question now is by how much.

  • Pace of Entries Slowing

    Level:8 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:64/110
    Prizes:$31,350

There are 15 minutes left in Level 8, with another break scheduled following this level. The field is now at 110 entries for prizes of $31,350. That puts today’s field just 8 off the final total for Day 1a in April’s series, but the pace of entries has slowed considerably in the last hour or so. It still looks pretty likely to beat the April number of 118, but it won’t be that much bigger.

  • 1a Looking Good to Beat April’s Opening Numbers

    Level:6 (300/600/600)
    Entries:63/105
    Prizes:$29,925

The 1a field is now over 100 entries, for prizes of nearly $30k already. In April, the opening flight to this event got 118 entries, so today’s field is only 13 shy of that number at the moment, with more than 3.5 hours left to enter the opening flight.

Right now, it looks like a lock to beat the 118 number from April. Among the players already in the opening day action are Rin Giles, Kelly Gall, Tyler Bourassa (who has been having a pretty good July after running deep in an Edmonton Main Event earlier in the week, and cashing the $230 Turbo last night), Kyle Dery, Brett Worton, Ben Wilson, Jordan Matsui, Daniel O’Leary, Jacqueline Ray (who was on the Seniors FT last night), Curtis Singleton, Angelo Jopek, Mohsen Shafizadeh, Patricia Kananda, and Dale Folyle.

  • Nearly 100 Day 1a Entries at Break

    Level:5 (300/500/500)
    Entries:64/92
    Prizes:$26,220

Level 5 is just underway for the opening flight of the Deepstack event. There are 92 entries on the board already with more than 4 hours left to enter the game. At this pace, it looks like today’s flight will be in the range of 130 entries. If they hit that number, that would be more than $37k in prizes.

The field is full of familiar faces, including a few I haven’t seen yet this week, including Cindy Grabia, Nick Civitarese, Giulio Rosati, Debi Loomer, Michael St Pierre-Porter, Julius Roque, Mike Malm, Pete Fylyma, and Tyler Hurman. That list just scratches the surface, so I’ll add more later.

  • 45 Entries for Deepstack

    Level:3 (200/300/300)
    Entries:45/45
    Prizes:$12,825

The action is underway in the Deepstack game with 45 entries on the board early in Level 3. Updates here will be a bit sparse for an hour or so as I have some errands to run, but I’ll be at the job shortly after the first break of the day.

  • First of Three Starting Flights for the Deepstack

    Date:Day 1a: Jul 31, PM
    Blinds:30 Minutes
    Starting Stack:25k
    Late Entry:11 Levels (~8:45 PM)
    Day 1 Ends:Level 16 or 10% of the Field

The opening flight for the $340 Deepstack gets underway on Thursday at 2 PM. This is the first of three flights through Saturday, with Day 2 action playing on Sunday, Aug 3.

Players get 25k in chips to start, and levels are 30 minutes long throughout the game, until there are 18 players left on Day 2, when blinds will jump to 40 minutes. There are 11 levels of late entry, which should mean the last entry is recorded around 8:45 PM. After that, the game plays to Level 16, or until they reach 10% of the starting field. Hand for hand play will start at 10%+1 on Day 1 play.

This game will be my main focus on Thursday, but I will likely be a bit late to the floor. I should be on task well before the first break.

Shane Chief 2025 Spring Super Stack Deepstack Event Winner

Shane Chief was the winner of this one at the Spring Super Stack earlier this year after an epic comeback saw him start Day 2 as the shortest stack in the room, only to finish the day with all the chips in the room. So far, we haven’t seen Chief at this Summer Super Stack, but I’d be surprised to see him miss this game and pass up the chance to go back-to-back.

  • Giulio Rosati Leads the 1a Stacks

    Level:16 (3000/6000/6000)

  • Jordan Qiao Leads 1b Stacks

    Mason St.

Seamus McGearty opened under the gun to 155k, and he was called by Curtis Singleton in the cutoff, and Vistor Ma in the big blind. The flop was 78Q and, after a check from Ma, McGeart made it 175k to go. Singleton folded pretty quickly, but it took Ma a lot longer to take the same action.

McHreaty has chipped up since the break and is closing in on 2 million.

  • Johnny Dalphond Out in 10th Place for $1,995

    Entries:10/560
    Prizes:$159,600

They are at the final table now after Melissa Sekulich bubbled the final ten. She was very short, and got her money in blind. Victor Ma woke up with nines to put her at risk, but she was live with 105. The board missed her hand, though, and Ma’s nines held for the win.

They are setting up the final table now, with a break coming in just 3 minutes. I’ll grab chip counts at the break.

Day 2 of Event #3 is playing fairly quickly so far, with the field already down to 19 left. The average stack right now is a bot less than 30 bigs, and assuming they don’t lose any players between now and the break in 8 minutes, the average will drop to less than 25 bigs when they return.

  • 56 Players Return from Epic Field for Day 2

    Entries:56/560
    Prizes (1st Place):$159,600 ($31,450)
