2025 WSOPC Calgary Oct – Event #15: $400 Ladies NLH

Jenelle Exner certainly knows how to make her way through a Ladies field. She took down her 3rd ring tonight after winning this event last May, winning it against Last August. In January of this year, she wasn’t quite able to make it three rings after falling in 3rd place, but now she’s won #3 here in the October Ladies game.

It wasn’t exactly a cakewalk either. The money play included Ngoc Nguyen, who was fourth in the Monster Stack this series, Leizel Castro, Ivanna Yatsiuk, Jen Peters, who has a bag for Day 2 of the Main Event, and Nu Teliani, who has been having a stellar year with 6 wins and 11 final tables so far in 2025.

She wasn’t on the big stack all night, however. When play was still 11-handed, she was second from last in chips, with runner-up Eun Park on top. Once she got to the final table, however, she found her stride, chipping up to a big lead by the time they got to 4 left.

After Teliani sent Peters out in fourth, Exner shoved her small blind against Teliani and raced it down with ace-ten over pocket sevens. When the board was down, it showed jacks and eights, counterfeiting Teliani’s pair and getting her heads up with Park.

It was all Exner in the final stages, with Park unable to get more than about 600k of the 2 million in play. Exner kept hammering with aggression and finding the hands she needed to when it mattered. In the final hand, Park shoved pocket sevens and Exner called off with ace-deuce. She found her ace on the flop, and that was all she needed to take it down.

Many players at WSOP-C are still looking for their first ring, and winning a single one is a feat. Winning three in the same event, with a 3rd place in a 4th version of the same game, is a run for the ages.

Eun Park is down under 10 big blinds now after a hand where both players limped to the 10♣K♥6♠ flop. Park check-called for 50k, and then they checked the 9♥ turn. After a check from Park on the 5♥ river, Jenelle Exner shoved, forcing Park out and dropping her under 300k.

Jenelle Exner is leading the heads-up now against Eun Park in a big way. Park just grabbed a pot to chip up to about 500k, but Exner has more than 1.5 million on her way to her 3rd Ladies ring.

Jen Peters shoved the small stack with ace-queen, and Nu Teliani called off with jack-ten, including the jack of diamonds. That would prove important after the 6♦Q♦3♦5♦7♥ runout put four diamonds out. Peters had hearts and spades and hit the rail in fourth.

There are four players left in the Ladies game now after Kami Chisholm busted in 5th place tonight. I missed the action as I’m trying to get Day 2 of the Main Event sorted out.

Kelly Morin shoved, and once again Jen Peters woke up with a hand and called it off. Morin had ace-four against Peters’ ace-king. The board missed both players, so the king kicker played for Peters to send another one to the rail.

Jen Peters is on a run tonight. She just sent Ivanna Yatsiuk out in 6th place after the money went in preflop. Yatsiuk shoved first, then Peters reshoved with more. She had pocket nines, and she flopped a set against the ace-four for Yatsiuk, leaving her drawing very thin. She hit her kicker on the river, but it wasn’t enough to beat Peters’ set.

Jen Peters shoved her button for 43k, and both Nu Teliani and Eun Park called from the blinds. They both checked through the 10♣3♥Q♠10♠9♥ board. Teliani announced ace high before Peters showed her pocket fives, and was surprised to find they were good for a triple up.

Nu Teliani raised under the gun to 25k before Jenelle Exner, who is on her fourth Ladies FT in a row (she won the first two, and came third in the last one), raised to 125k. It folded to small blind Agnes Clfford and she shoved a stack covered by bot active players.

Teliani mucked, but Exner snapped it off with queens against eights. The queens held on a jack-high board and Clifford was out in 8th place.

Leizel Castro woke up with queens and shoved her stack, but it wasn’t destined to be. Nu Teliani woke up with aces, and the aces held to send Castro home in 9th place.

Charline Belliveau was the first player off the final table, while I was processing the pictures. She scored the final payout of $794, and the next player out will get $880.

The final table is now being set after Brenda Potts got her final money in against Nu Teliani. Potts was dominated with king-ten against king-jack, and Teliani spiked two pair to seal the deal.

Eun Park is the big leader on the FT bubble with 11 players left. She’s playing almost 400k, while Ivanna Yatsiuk and Charline Belliveau both have more than 200k.

I missed the final action that sent Ngoc Nguyen home from the Ladies game tonight, but she was recently left short after doubling Eun Park with a dominated jack on a jack-high flop.

Peggy Malinowski was the first player out in the money tonight, ending her run in 16th place after a bit of a bad beat. She shoved early with 28k, and it folded to Leizel Castro in the big blind, who put in the call.

Malinowski was way ahead with pocket queens against jack-three for Castro, but when the 7♠A♣3♥8♦3♠ board was complete, Castro had trips for the win.

The ladies are now in the money with 16 players left. Leanne Brown was the bubble to the money tonight, and all remaining players are now guaranteed at least $756.

Jiarong Xu was the bubble to the final two tables tonight after she woke up with an ace-eight and shoved her small stack from the hijack. Nu Teliani woke up with ace-king and reshoved more to isolate.

Teliani’s ace-king held on a board of K♠8♦2♣6♠5♣ after they both hit the flop, but Teliani hit it harder. They also lost Giao Tran at the same time from another table, so the field is now on the bubble with 17 left.

Eun Park raised the middle to 6k, and both Kami Chisholm and Ivanna Yatsiuk came along from the blinds. All three players checked the Q♥Q♠10♥ flop, whole Chisholm fired 10k from the small blind on the 9♦ turn. Yatsiuk called from the big blind, but Park raised. She tried to raise to 24k, but didn’t have enough yellows in the bet, so it was deemed a 20k min-raise.

It didn’t matter as both Chisholm and Yatsiuk folded.

The Ladies game is down to 27 players left, with about 20 minutes to play in Level 12. There is a break following this level and I’ll get a full round of chip counts then.

I’m not certain of all the chip counts at the moment, as I am taking them from the user & dealer updates in the app, but I’ll have a look around at the break coming after this level in a bit less than 30 minutes and get some accurate counts in for the remaining ladies.

About 1 hour and 20 minutes are left to get into this game, so it looks like an easy bet to get more than 100 today. The prizes for the Ladies are up to nearly $27k, with 81 entries on the board and about 10 minutes to play in Level 5. That puts the end of entries about 2 hours away, so 100 entries is still within reach.

The Ladies game is running in Chrome, and at the moment, I only have online access to the details. The field is up to 78, for prizes of more than $25k, and about 2.5 hours left to enter the game. A field of 100+ for this one seems like a reasonable bet, but I have noticed that reentries tend to be a little less brisk for Ladies games than for other game types with reentry.

The Ladies prizes are now over $20k with 61 entries on the board. About 20 minutes remain in Level 2 right now with entries still open for a bit less than 4 hours, so it seems like a good bet that the final field will be more than 100 entries.

In January, Annee Ngo won this one over a field of 146 entries. A few other notables from this game included 3rd-place Jenelle Exner, who won this event the previous two times it ran, and came third in this one. The 2024 Alberta Poker Index Female Player of the Year, Haven Taylor made the final table and pocketed ninth-place money. Ukrainian import Ivanna Yatsiuk was the runner-up, while local regular Debi Loomer (who was 6th in the PKO game earlier in the week) also final tabled this game.

I’ll be in Sundance for the early part of the game, watching the final flight to the Main Event, but once that game closes registration, I plan to move over to cover the ladies for the rest of the night, updating the Main from afar while I watch this one.
