It was a marathon three-way session, taking around 2 hours to play from 3 to a winner. Heads up went fairly quickly after Benny Sarnelli sent Bernice McLennan out in 3rd, but it still wasn’t easy, despite the growing blinds.
In the final level, there were less than 30 big blinds total in play. Sarnelli started with the chip lead, but Trevor Emir-Ahmet doubled to take a slight lead, then whittled Sarnelli down a bit more over the next few hands. When the money finally went in, Emir-Ahmet shoved his button, and with his stack down just a few big blinds, Sarnelli called it off with suited connectors.
He had seven-six of hearts against the ace-four off for Emir-Ahmet. Sarnelli flopped a heart draw, but that was a recurring theme for him this evening, along with the eventual brickyard runout on the board of 3♥Q♥4♠4♣3♣, while Emir-Ahmet hit trip fours on the turn.
Sarnelli made $3,200 after the final three made an even chop (leaving $390 extra to play for), but fell just short of scoring another PPT trophy for his growing collection.
