Bolger Bags Big, Mohammadi Makes It Count, and A Three Way Chop Marks the Megastack

Calgary’s Summer Super Stack rolled into its closing weekend with two very different storylines. The $1,500 Superstack NLH drew a strong Day 1A turnout of 133 entries, building a $170,573 prize pool. After fifteen levels of 40-minute play, 26 players survived to bag for Sunday’s Day 2.

Malcolm Bolger

Malcolm Bolger topped the counts with 457,000, the only player to cross the 450k mark. Andy Truong (419k) and Shariq Khan (398k) were the only others near the 400k mark, while Jerry Li (335k) and Cindy Kerslake (308.5k) rounded out the top five. The Day 1A survivors return to the felt with an average stack of around 200k when play resumes.

PLO Madness Mohammadi Outlasts Wo

Homan Mohammadi

While the Superstack players bagged chips, the $800 PLO Megastack played down to a champion. The event drew 47 entries and paid five spots, but the heads-up duel between Homan Mohammadi and Michael Wo was the real highlight. Mohammadi, visiting from Vancouver and already with one final table earlier in the week, had to battle from behind against Wo, who held the chip lead from the moment the bubble burst.

The two went at it for over two hours with multiple swings. Mohammadi was down to just a few blinds before doubling with trip deuces and later making a wheel to get back into contention. Wo doubled himself with sevens full versus nines, but the end came on a jack-high board when Wo’s queens ran into Mohammadi’s turned two pair. The board bricked out, giving Mohammadi his first PLO title and an $11,573 payday.

Mohammadi’s win adds a PLO trophy to his NLH résumé and capped a wild final table full of momentum shifts. With Day 1B of the Superstack still to play and more side events ahead, the Summer Super Stack is set for a big finish.

NLH Megastack, Massive Field and a Three-Way Chop

Zhi Jiang (L – 3rd). Jerry Li (M – 1st), & Eric Wasylenko (R – 2nd)

The $560 Megastack NLH event delivered in a big way, with two starting flights combining for a huge turnout and a deep prize pool. Day 1A brought 177 entries, and after a long bubble grind the last 17 players bagged chips. Eric Wasylenko ended the night in front with 659,000, just ahead of Jerry Li on 633,000. Mal Hagan, James Chalcroft, and Chase Bonertz rounded out the top five in the low 400k range.

Day 1B saw an even bigger crowd with 233 entries, bringing the total field to 410. Cody Richardson topped the overall counts with 918,000, followed by Zhi Jiang (739,000) and Homan Mohammadi (508,000). Twenty-three players advanced from the second flight, and the combined field generated a $194,750 prize pool.

Day 2 moved quickly with deep stacks in play. The final table formed at eight-handed, featuring Li, Wasylenko, Richardson, Jiang, and veterans like Ben Locker and Colten Yamagishi. Jason Earthy was first out after his queens fell to Li’s ace-king on a king-high board, while Yamagishi bowed out in sixth. Locker exited in fourth in a cooler when his ace-jack couldn’t fade Wasylenko’s jack-eight on a K-6-8-J-river board, giving Wasylenko a full house. Moments later, Richardson’s ace-deuce couldn’t hold against Wasylenko’s king-queen, leaving three players standing.

With deep stacks and the Main Event on the horizon, Li, Wasylenko, and Jiang agreed to an ICM chop. Li took the official title and $33,643, Wasylenko earned $28,463, and Jiang claimed $24,947. The posted top prize was $42,845, but the deal ensured all three walked away with solid paydays and a quick turnaround for the next big event.

7Sinisa Kovacevic$6,816

The Megastack was a showcase of Calgary’s mid-stakes talent, building a six-figure prize pool and delivering a hard-fought finish. With the Superstack Main Event still to play, expect these names to be in the mix again.
