The opening day of the Pure Poker Tour Series #4 is now in the books, and the endgame of both Day 1 tournaments came down to chops. As usual, the Seniors started the proceedings with Event #1 at noon, while the full field got a chance to play the 4 PM side game, the NLH/PLO mix.
Both games saw reasonably good turnout, with the 122 Seniors creating an Event #1 prize pool of $34,770. That was about 20 entries less than the 143 they got in July for this game, but still came in as a pretty average 50+ field. The NLH/PLO MIx game was similarly smaller than July, with 91 entries this time for prizes of $25,935, 10 entries below July’s 101.
Brouwer & Stephenson Chop Seniors Prizes

- Event #1: $340 Seniors First 50+
- Entries: 122
- Prizes: $34,770
- Winner: Leo Brouwer ($8,465 after chop)
The Seniors played for more than 13 hours on Thursday in the opening event of PPT #4 and, with the hour getting late, Leo Brouwer and Lynne Stephenson decided to chop it up at the end. Brouwer had the most chips and secured $8,465 plus the trophy, while Stephenson pocketed $7,525 for second.
The deal came shortly after Larry Quon got his chips in with ace-queen of diamonds, but ran into the red-hot Brouwer with ten-jack of clubs. The flop had two tens on it, with the fourth and final ten coming on the turn to give Brouwer quad tens and send Quon out in brutal fashion for 3rd place.

Murray Gets First PPT Trophy in PLO/NLH Mix Chop

- Event #2: $340 NLH/PLO Mixed
- Entries: 91
- Prizes: $25,935
- Winner: Jenna Murray ($7,000 after Chop)
With 30-minute blinds and a mix of NLH & PLO, the Mix game tends to run pretty slowly, and yesterday was no exception. Even with just 91 entries, they played for more than 12 hours before the winner was finally crowned.
When the dust cleared at the end of the night, it was Pure Casino Edmonton server Jenna Murray announcing her presence in the local poker scene. Murray started making waves in the scene the last time PPT came to Yellowhead when she had a stellar run in the Main Event, taking 4th place for ~$20k.
On opening day of this series, she went the full distance, taking down the big prize and her first PPT trophy in a heads-up deal with Devin Frank. She secured $7k and the trophy in the deal, while Frank guaranteed himself $5,710 for second place and Michelle Valencia just missed out on the deal in 3rd for $3,370.
