JP Poker to Host the 2025 European Mixed Poker Championship in November

If one were to determine the one country in the world that loves Mixed Games the most, presumably, many people would cast their vote on Norway. Perhaps it is something about the Scandinavian air that makes the inhabitants crave action. Whatever the reason, the Norwegians’ love for games such as H.O.R.S.E., 8-Game, Dealer’s Choice, etc., cannot be mistaken for anything else.

This is most likely the reason why two Norwegian poker legends decided to found the European Mixed Poker Championship. After two successful events, the championship is now returning for its third consecutive edition. Dublin will be the place to be this November for all European Mixed Games enthusiasts.

“A six-day Mixed Games Extravaganza”

Frode Fagerli and Tobias Jelsa Leknes should already be two very familiar names for all Mixed Games lovers in Europe. Fagerli is the founder of the Norwegian Championship, while Leknes is often referred to as a virtuoso of Mixed Games. The two of them put their heads together, and soon thereafter, the European Mixed Poker Championship was created. The inaugural event was a part of the 2023 Poker North Masters & Norwegian Championship at Card Casino Šamorín, Slovakia. The next year, the same venue hosted the first stand-alone event in March, where Englishman Samuel Perry won the €400 8-Game Main Event for €15,821.

At the end of July this year, the organization announced that the event would return in a couple of months. The 2025 European Mixed Poker Championship will be played November 4-9 at JP Poker Card Club & Casino. As they say themselves, it’s going to be “a six-day Mixed Games Extravaganza”. There are nine unique events on the menu, and when scrolling through this buffet of a tournament schedule, one can already hear the word “pot” echo from a far distance.

Let’s start with the main course, the aforementioned €800 8-Game Main Event. The 2024 Slovakian edition attracted 161 unique entries, which created a €56,221 prize pool; no doubt, the championship is seeking to break records this year. It’s a three-day affair with two starting-day flights; both of them are scheduled on November 6, before a winner will be crowned when Day 2 concludes on November 7.

It’s no surprise that Mixed Games players have the ability to think outside the box. The result of this creative process is the S.O.R.B.E.T. concept. According to Leknes, former PokerStars Ambassador Georgina James was the founder of this concept, and it debuted in Las Vegas this summer. In Dublin, there will be two tournaments of this H.O.R.S.E.-inspired discipline: the €300 Low Roller and the €2,000 High Roller. The mix consists of Stud, Fixed-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, Razz, Badugi, Stud Hi-Lo, and Deuce-to-Seven Triple Draw. Just reading this potpourri of games is enough to give one goosebumps; the action in the S.O.R.B.E.T. tournaments will be incomprehensible.

In terms of brand new tournaments compared to last year’s championship, S.O.R.B.E.T. is one of the two. The other one is the €300 Pot Limit Turbo Mix. Contestants in this tournament must master Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, and Sviten Special, all four games played with pot limit. Fittingly enough, this tournament is the one that will wrap the whole festival up, as it’s scheduled on November 9.

Co-founder of the European Mixed Poker Championship – or the EMPC, as it’s often referred to as – Leknes, is thrilled over the growth Mixed Games have seen in recent years:

The Festival, all the big events in Tallinn, the Irish Poker Open, and multiple low-stakes tours in the UK have brought Mixed Games to be a part of their schedule, and EPTs are now running with more Mixed Games than ever before. Tobias Leknes has most certainly earned his reputation as a Mixed Games master. Not only does he have an inner fire burning to make the community even bigger, but he’s also a very prominent player himself. Most recently, he won the €1,400 6-Game Mix Mystery Bounty during the 2025 EPT Barcelona, and according to his profile on The Hendon Mob, he has 15 Mixed Games titles in total. Leknes is hopeful for a big turnout in Dublin:

“I have my hopes at more than 100 entries in the main, and I really hope all Mixed Games enthusiasts will find their way to Dublin to both support the event and, of course, to have an insane amount of fun.

I’m looking forward to being there to play the tournaments and battle in the funniest poker formats I know of. In addition, there will be plenty of cash game tables with all types of stakes available for players to enjoy mixed games all day long.”

Poker extends way beyond Texas NLH, and those who haven’t experienced the thrilling world of Mixed Games really should consider giving it a go. What’s more, the Mixed Games community is extremely friendly; the atmosphere around the tables tends to be more relaxing and familiar than a Texas NLH tournament may offer. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a game of poker, to make new friends, and, most importantly, to have a lot of fun.
