It was another exciting day at Pure Casino Yellowhead, with the first straight PLO tournament opening the day. Lutang Li went on to overcome the field of 69 players to take home the first-place prize of $9,440. He took home a large chunk of the $26,200 prize pool as he won his first PPT event ever played. A familiar face among the PPT series, Michael St Pierre-Porter won his second trophy of the day after he bested the 99-player field in the $300 NLH Deepstack. For his efforts he took home $7,364 of the $25,394 prize pool.
Luteng Li Wins is One for One for PPT Trophies ($9,440)
Luteng Li just flew into Edmonton from Richmond, BC, and in his first-ever showing at the PPT series, he managed to find a trophy. After roughly 13 hours of play, Li took down the event besting Varan Sidhu in heads-up play. By the dinner break, Li sat with the second-largest stack in the field at 271,300. He hovered around there until the final table remaining slightly above average in the field.

With six left, he sat in third place with a healthy 300,000. However, a stacked field including Sebastien Crema and Nu Teliani as chip leaders would have to be overcome in order for him to win the title. Josh Myers hit the rail as play was intense, and Li was the short stack of the table on the following break. He still had a playable stack with nearly 30 big blinds. No players were eliminated going into the next break, but Li managed to battle back to a middling stack.
Crema and Teliani busted in back-to-back hands to leave the table three-handed. Li had the middling stack, while Sidhu was the chip leader. Li found a double to survive with pocket jacks in his hand. Sidhu took out David Fong shortly after to take play into the heads-up portion of the night. Li battled to gain the chip lead and soon after with aces and held to take down the tournament.

Michael St Pierre-Porter Proves it’s not Coincidence ($7,364)
Although it was a deepstack event, this event seemed to contain all the action. Before they knew it, the remaining 10 players were in the money. Among the field were multiple players who found success in the field, such as Michael St Pierre Porter, Stefan Maloney, and Mike Malm. Play was quick to get to heads-up as only St Pierre-Porter and Gaetano Buda battled heads-up.

Heads-up started nearly even, but early on Michael St Pierre-Porter was at risk. He called all in with ace-eight against Gaetano’s pocket queens. He found a four-card straight with the eight to take the hand and leave Gaetano on fumes. Shortly after, Buda found back-to-back doubles and chip-ups to get to 1.2 million in chips against St Pierre-Porter’s 2.7 million chip stack. St Pierre-Porter called off an all in with king-ten against Gaetano’s jack-six to take home his second trophy of the series.
