Razzaq Gets Second Trophy; Dick Bags Big in HR at PPT #2

Day 6 of Pure Poker Tour #2 was headlined by Day 2 of the 6-Max game, but Tuesday also saw the first day of the High Roller play out. Local regular Ali Razzaq came through for his second trophy from the Tour while a somewhat small High Roller Day 1 saw Calgary player Jack Dick bag big.

Event 7:$780 NLH 6-Max ($700+$80)
Date:May 19/20, 1 PM
Blinds:40 Minutes
Starting Stack:40k
Entries:86
Prizes (Winner):$57,190 (Ali Razzaq, $16,215)

Ali Razzaq is a regular on the Pure Poker Tour, and he’s a regular at the final table as well. He has dozens of final table appearances on his resume, but outright wins have been harder to come by for him.

Tuesday, in the 6-Max, he had a come-from-behind win to score his fourth live win and second PPT trophy. He was never the big stack until heads-up play, but he was always in the mix with a decent stack.

There’s no question Razzaq ran good tonight. He took a bog cooler with queens over tens, and found a miracle boat on the turn to send Michael St Pierre-Porter to the cage in 3rd. Heads up, he found another boat to take a big lead, but that was after he executed an exquisite bluff with top pair and a flush blocker against the better top pair for runner-up Sebastian Crema and forced the fold. Run-good played a part in Razzaq’s win tonight, but he was very much dialed into the play, knowing exactly when to apply pressure and when to back away.

The final hand saw Crema flop open-ended and flush outs with Razzaq on a pocket pair of sevens. He faded the many outs for Crema and the sevens held to send Razzaq his second trophy about 7 hours after Day 2 began.

Jack Dick Bags the Lead in High Roller

Alex Dick

It was a bit of a slow start for the High Roller with just 14 entries. After 9 levels of play, Calgary player Jack Dick has the bg stack of 160,500 with Michael “Berny” Bernstein in second at 143k.

Entries are still open for this event, with players able to buy a stack until the start of Level 12 on Day 2. Players who jump in before the action on Day 2 will get the $100 discount registration fee, and that may have incentivized some players to wait until the start of Day 2 to enter. Players buying a stack before Day 2 play begins will have more than 25 big blinds to start the day with the big stack on just over 100 bigs, so it’s not a terrible spot to buy in.

I expect 10+ entries to take advantage of the discounted reg-fee on Wednesday with a final field likely in the 30s. High Roller action will finish on Wednesday, but there is still a big PLO game on Thursday and the Main Event yet to come this week. Follow all the exclusive reporting here on poker.pro.
