After an action-packed final day of the series, Varan Sidhu has risen to the occasion to take down the Main Event. He bested Gordon Wong to take home $54,000 after making a deal with Wong. On the flip side of things, Mike Malm continued his dominant performance in Alberta, taking down the $340 Last Chance NLH trophy. For his effort he earned $10,080 along with his second PPT trophy.
Varan Sidhu Battles the Best to Take Home the Main

Varan Sidhu battled through the experienced field to overcome the 293-player field. He made a deal with second-place finisher Gordon Wong to receive $54,000, while Wong received $45,000. The prize pool combined for a total of $275,567. Sidhu entered the day in the top ten stacks from both Day 1s. By the first break of the day, Sidhu sat with the second-largest stack behind Wong.
Eliminations were rapid as players hit the rail left and right. Sidhu sat middle of the pack heading into the final table. He found a call with pocket tens against Jenna Murray’s river bet to add to his stack. His patience paid off as he started to pick up hands and soared over 1.6 million in chips. Wong seemed poised to make heads-up play holding over double everyone else with five players remaining.
Sidhu picked up pocket queens against Garry Sandhu Ace-Queen, and found a double to soar to 2.3 million in chips. From here, he didn’t slow down, picking up big hand after big hand. Soon he was heads-up against Wong and both players agreed to chop the prize pool. Wong found a double to battle back but it wouldn’t last. Wong got it in with queen-jack against Sidhu’s king-cack to hit the rail as the runner-up.

Mike Malm Proves His API Ranking as He Takes Home the Final Trophy of the Series

As the previous API player of the year, Mike Malm has found success all across the province. This series was no exception as he bested the 130-player field to take home $10,080 for first. This was the lion’s share of the $37,050 prize pool. Malm found some pots late into the tournament, before he eliminated Cameron Stewart winning a flip after making the nut flush.
He entered heads-up play around even against Harvey Johnson. However, his play wouldn’t allow for Malm to take home anything less than first. Malm won the final hand in a race with pocket threes against Johnson’s two overs. Johnson’s run came to an end as he took home $6,950 in his third-ever live cash.
