The biggest Canadian story this week came from WSOP grinder Alan “Ari” Engel. He is one of a few Canadians who have been cashing nearly everything they touch in this year’s series, and this week, he became the all-time leader in cashes in WSOP-branded events.

Daniel “DNegs” Negreanu and Alex Livingston are two more Canadians who have been racking up the cashes so far this year, and both also added to their tallies this past week. Meanwhile, Tara Dunn had a score and a bag this week, while Lawrence Rabie is still in the mix for the big prize in the Seniors after Yvonne Alton led the Canadian cashers so far.

Ryan Chamas topped the Canadian payouts in Event #54: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, while Clayton Mozden joined Engel in the payouts for Event #55: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship. Alex Livingston is still in the mix in that one, bringing the 11th-place stack to the final day for another guaranteed cash.

Engel is the All-Time Cash Leader

Alan “Ari” Engel etched his name in the record books this week as he took over the top spot in the WSOP cash list, surpassing the late, great “Miami” Joh Cernuto as he edges closer to 600 lifetime cashes in WSOP-branded events. He leads the world in Circuit rings and, assuming my math is right, notched his 599th WSOP cash in Event #55 this week, with #598 coming a few hours earlier in Event #54.

Engel has 9 cashes so far this series, so it seems like a lock that he’ll be well over 600 before the series closes in mid July. For a full look at Engel’s lifetime of poker achievements, check out Alek Gillies’ profile piece on the all-time leader in WSOP cashes.

Rabie Looking for Canada’s 2nd Seniors’ Bracelet in 3 Years

Lawrence Rabie brings the 6th place stack into the final day of the Seniors with 19 players left. He’s guaranteed at least $27,048.

In 2023, Lonnie Hallett emerged victorious from a massive field of more than 8,000 runners for the Senior’s bracelet. This year, it’s Thornhill, ON’s Lawrence Rabie with the deep run.

He leads 47 Canadian cashers in this year’s event, which was slightly smaller than the 2023 edition at 7,575 runners for nearly $7 million in total prizes. So far, the top Canadian earner in the Seniors is Yvonne Alton, who picked up $14,788 for 45th place. Top-ten Canadian earner Mike Leah also figured in the Seniors scores with just over $10k for 67th.

Rabie is the only Canadian left in the mix, and there are just 19 players remaining. Rabie returns for the final day 6th in chips and while he’s guaranteed a bit more than $27k at this point, his eyes will be firmly focused on the $653,839 and the bracelet up top.

DNegs & Livingston Among Big Cashers

While Engel is the unquestioned leader, Daniel Negreanu and Alex Livingston are giving him a solid run this year for most Canadian cashes. Neghreanu has notched 8 cashes so far this series, while Livingston has pocketed money from 7 WSOP events so far this summer (and he added a Wynn Summer Classic cash in the middle).

Livingston’s results have been fairly modest so far, without any really deep runs, but Negreanu has been sniffing at his 8th bracelet a few times with 4 top-9 finishes, including second place in Event #9: $10,000 Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship 8-Handed worth almost $315k.
