  • Michael St. Pierre-Porter Wins 6-Max for $9,334 in Deal

The 6-Max is now complete with Michael St. Pierre-Porter standing atop the 60-entry field. He took the biggest score from nearly $40k in prizes, after the final four players cut an ICM deal while he was in the chip lead.

They came into Day 2 with 7 players remaining, after Calyton Gaudry took the min-cash at the end of Day 1. The final seven were very deep to start the day, but they were still down to five in about an hour. After that, things stalled at five for a while before defending champion Nu Teliani, who had started the day second in chips behind Mike Malm (runner-up for $7,575), ended her day in 5th.

That left the final four discussing a deal, and they finally arrived at what was mostly an ICM chop. Tony Ma and Mike Malm were the short stacks and agreed to $7,575 each, while Joe Roberts got just over $9k for the second stack, and St. Pierre-Porter got $9,334 for the big stack.

After that, they played for the trophy. Roberts & Ma busted quickly, but then Malm and St. Pierre-Porter battled heads up for about half an hour before they finally decided on who was taking home the trophy. It all ended in a bit of a cooler after St. Pierre-Porter flopped a boat with deuces on a deuce-four-four flop. Malm was on an overpair of jacks, and when the turn came an eight, the money went in.

St. Pierre-Porter held, but was slightly out-chipped by Malm. However, the hand left Malm with less than 100k, and he lost that in the next hand to send the trophy to St. Pierre-Porter for his third PPT win.

  • Mike Malm Out in 2nd Place for $7,575

    Mike Malm 6-Max

Michael St. Pierre-Porter just jumped into a huge lead after he flopped a set of ducks against Mike Malm’s jacks. Malm opened the button to 60k, and St. Pierre-Porter called.

On the 424 flop, St. Pierre-Porter check-called for 30k. The 8 turn is where it all kicked off. St. Pierre-Porter checked again, then shoved after Malm made it 190k. Malm called with an overpair of jacks, but it was no good against the flopped boat with deuces for St. Pierre-Porter.

Malm was dead to a jack or a four, and neither came when the river bricked. Malm technically had the biggest stack at the time, but he covered St. Pierre-Porter by less than 100k, so he was on fumes after the hand, and the rest went in shortly after to send the trophy to St. Pierre-Porter.

  • St. Pierre-Porter Leads to Start Level 17

    Level:17 (4000/8000/8000)
    Entries:5/60
    Prizes:$39,900

Michael St. Pierre-Porter is in the lead as Level 17 is about to kick off. He got most of those chips in the last level when he won a race against Joseph Roberts for a double to stay alive, and has chipped up a bit more since then. There are still almost 300 big blinds in play, so the action is still very deep, with Nu Teliani’s short stack still playing 28 bigs.

The field is still pretty deep, with nearly 600 big blinds still on the table between the final 7 players, so today could be a bit of a marathon before the prizes are finally sorted out.

Day 2 of the 6-Max is set, with seven players returning. There were 60 entries on Day 1 by the time the registration desk closed, digging a prize pool almost $40k deep

The left 8 players in the money, but Clayton Gaudry took the 8th place min-cash just before the end of Day 1 play, leaving just seven players remaining. Gaudry earned $1,155 for the min-cash, and all players returning for Day 2 are guaranteed at least $1,475.

2024 Alberta Poker Index Player of the Year, Mike Malm, leads the way into the final day. He has more than 660k, for 166 big blinds, and is well in front. It won’t be an easy run to the trophy for him, as the other six players aren’t exactly “dead seats” in this one.

Malm leads a very stacked table, including defending champ Nu Teliani, Tony Ma, Nadav Bitton, Michael St. Pierre-Porter, and Deven Lane, as well as Joseph Roberts with the second-best stack. Malm, Roberts, and Teliani all have more than 100 bigs coming into Day 2.

The main Monday game at PPT #5 is the 6-Max. Play starts at 1 PM, and players get 40,000 in chips to start. Levels will be 40 minutes long, and entries are open for 9 levels, or until about 8 PM.

This is a two-day event, and Day 1 will play until players are in the money with 12.5% of the field remaining, no matter how late that goes. The money play will happen on Tuesday at 1 PM.

Nu Teliani, Winner of the 6-Max

Last series, it was Nu Teliani who bested the 75 player field. The event drew a prize pool of $49,875 with Teliani taking the lion share of $15,965. Skyler York ($10,475) and Deven Lane ($6,980) rounded out the top three for the event.
