2026 WSOPC Calgary Jan – Event #11: $1,000 NLH Turbo

Level:	27 (50000/100000/100000)
Entries:	1/222
Prizes:	$194,250
Local Time:	2:00 AM

The Turbo $1k lived up to its name on Tuesday, playing through 222 entries in around 10 hours, finishing up by 2 in the morning. The field this time was significantly above October’s 163, continuing the trend for this series that could end up spelling a new record for prizes in Alberta by the time the dust settles on Main Event and High Roller entries.

The Two-Day $1k finished just as this game got heads up, and the final phase was as short as the rest of the night. Winner Joel Kogan was the big stack, and Seong Choi was on his heels with very few moves in his stack.

The final hand saw the money go in on the flop, with Choi on a pair, but Kogan drawing to a flush with the nine-four of spades. The turn bricked, but the river was just what the doctor ordered for Kogan, delivering the spade salvation.

Nine-four may well become Kogan’s favorite hand — this was the second ring he’s won playing those cards. He took down his first Circuit ring in the $400 Black Chip Bounty game here at Deerfoot Inn & Casino in January 2024, though in that case, he was offsuit.

This was Kogan’s biggest live score and fourth win on the live felt. He had $152k in lifetime earnings coming into this series, so this will push him close to $200k.

Local Time:	8:20 PM

Entries are now closed for the Turbo $1k, and the final number was 222. That is almost 60 entries ahead of the October 2025 total for this event, continuing the trend of big fields for this opening series of 2026. Prizes are yet to be posted, but it looks like 34 players will get a piece of $194k in prizes later tonight.

Less than 30 minutes remain in entries for the Turbo $1k, with the field now over 200. That continues the strong turnouts for this series, capping the October numbers by more than 40 entries so far. Right now, it looks like 31 places will be paid out later, but that may change with about 20 minutes left to enter.

The trend continues! The Turbo $1k is now 10 entries ahead of the October 2025 numbers, with a bit more than an hour to enter the game. They need 27 more entries to hit 200, and that seems like a reasonable bet over the next hour, but a field of about 190 seems assured.

Event #11: $1,000 NLH Turbo ($875 + $125)

Date:	Jan 13, 4 PM
Blinds:	20 Minutes
Starting Stack:	30k
Late Entry:	11 Levels (~8:10 PM)
Day 1 Ends:	One-Day Event

The side game on Wednesday is the Turbo $1k. This game is basically a “Second chance” on the two-day $1k that started on Monday, but with quicker blinds.

The action kicks off at 4 PM, and players have 11 levels to buy in. That should put the last buy-in at about 8:10 PM. After that, they’ll play down to the ring before the day ends.

In October, Harpreet Gill powered through the 164-entry field in this one to take down the win over Mike Leah, one of Canada’s winningest players. Gill pocketed $35,195 of the $143,500 and put his first Circuit ring on at the end of the game.
