Skyler York Wins Epic HU Battle
Level: 25 (25000/50000/50000) Entries: 1/63 Prizes: $23,940 Skyler York, winner of the PLO Double Board Bomb Pot Teo Sanchez, Runner-up in the PLO Double Board Bomb Pot It was an epic battle from three ways, with three of the top PLO players locally finding the top three spots. Defending Champion Nicholas Lee (soon to be Dr. Nick in about 18 months), Teo Sanchez (who won the NLH/PLO mix here in April), and Skyler York (who has 5-card and 4-card PLO wins on his resume) were the final three, and if you put together a list of five players to expect at the end of this game, it’s pretty likely these three would have been on the list.
The heads-up battle between Sanchez and York was nearly 90 minutes long, with York as a bit of a “cockroach”. He was down to fumes more than once in the game, and Sanchez held the lead for a lot of the HU play, but no matter how short York got, he found a way to rebuild.
In the final confrontation, it was all in preflop, with York on the weaker hand. He was playing Q♣9♦6♠4♥ against Q♦10♠8♦6♣. The 2♥9♠A♠2♦K♥ board gave York the pair of nines while leaving Sanchez high and dry. This was York’s 3rd win, and the cash will come in 3rd on his list of top scores.

York Back on Fumes
Level: 24 (20000/40000/40000) Entries: 2/63 Prizes: $23,940 Skyler York had managed to get himself back into a small lead after a few pots went his way, but he’s back down to fumes after the money went in preflop and he couldn’t crack Sanchez’s kings with A♠Q♣J♠9♦ when the board ran ten high. That left him on about 200k, but he’s come back from that before in the heads-up match.

York Can’t Find a Bluff; Folds Small Hearts
Level: 24 (15000/30000/30000) Entries: 2/63 Prizes: $24,940 It was limped to the J♥3♠K♣ flop and both players checked to the 2♥ turn. York bet 90k and Sanchez called to see K♥ on the river.
After a check from York, Sanchez fired 180k, sending York into the tank. He muttered to himself, going through the possible hands and looking for a bluff Sanchez might have.
“I can’t find a bluff,” he finally said, showing 10♥7♥ for the small flush as he mucked his hand.

Sanchez Scoops Both Boards for Big Lead
Level: 23 (15000/30000/30000) Entries: 2/63 Prizes: $23,940 Most of the bomb pots so far tonight have been pretty tame, but all the chips were in on the most recent one. The flops came out [invalid notations] and Skyler York check-called for 30k.
The turns were 10♠ and 9♥, and it all kicked off. York check-raised from 85k to 375k, then called it off when Sanchez shoved.
Teo Sacnhez: J♥J♦10♥8♣
Skyler York: K♥Q♣10♦9♦The rivers came [invalid notations] and Sanchez scooped with a straight, and a pair of jacks. The hand left York very short, but the battle continues.

York Doubles to Even
Level: 22 (15000/25000/25000) Entries: 2/63 Prizes: $23,940 They are pretty much even now after the money went in on a flop of 4♦8♦2♠. Teo Sanchez limp-called a raise preflop, then York fired 175k on the flop. York potted, then called off the shove with A♣J♣9♠5♠ against 7♥7♣5♣2♣. J♦Q♣ completed the board, and York took it down.
-
Nicholas Lee Out in 3rd Place for $4,070
Level: 21 (10000/20000/20000) Entries: 2/63 Prizes: $24,940 Nicholas Lee Defending champ Nicholas Lee turned the wheel, with Teo Sanchez on a set of tens and drawing to diamonds on a board of 4♦2♠10♦A♥. The money went in, and Sanchez rivered his diamonds for the win, and Lee had to settle for 3rd place tonight.
-
Sanchez Leads Close Three-Way Battle
Level: 21 (10000/20000/20000) Entries: 3/63 Prizes: $23,940 If you were to have picked three players to be at the end of this one, the three that made it — Teo Sanchez, Skyler York, and defending champ Nicholas Lee — would have been pretty good picks. At the moment, there isn’t much in it.
Sanchez has the lead with 694k, but York has 500k with Lee on almost 400k, so they are all within striking distance of the lead. With blinds moving to 10000/20000/20000 when they return from the break in 7 minutes, the average stack is a bit more than 25 big blinds, so they are relatively short and only getting shorter.
-
Dee Elumir Out in 4th Place for $2,633
Level: 20 (8000/16000/16000) Entries: 3/63 Prizes: $23,940 Dee Elumar They are down to three players after after Dee Elumir ended his day in 4th while I was writing the last hand. I didn’t catch the action, but he’s been the short stack at the table since seven-handed play at least, so he did well to ladder to 4th.
-
Lee Doubles
Level: 20 (8000/16000/16000) Entries: 4/63 Prizes: $23,940 Teo Sanchez raised under the gun to 45k, and Nicholas Lee defended the big blind with a call. It checked through the 5♣6♦3♥ flop, and Lee check-called for 50k on the 6♠ turn. Sanchez potted the 5♥ river, putting Lee to the test for all his chips.
He made the call, showing the straight with seven-seven-six-four and taking down a double.
-
Eddie Guilbault Out in 5th Place for $1,915
Level: 19 (6000/12000/12000) Entries: 4/63 Prizes: $23,940 Eddie Guilbault They are down to 4 left in the PLO game. Eddie Guilbault was the chip leader earlier in the final table, but had dropped down the counts last time I checked.
-
Elumar Chips Up
Level: 19 (6000/12000/12000) Entries: 5/63 Prizes: $23,940 Dee Elumar limped in first to act, and everyone else limped as well to big blind Teo Sanchez. Skyler York called for a “Familio!” but Sanchez was having none of that and raised to 72k. Elumar shoved for a bit more (83k), and it folded back to Sanchez, who called.
Sanchez had ace-jack-five-three against kings for Elumar. Elumar held on 6♣8♠6♥3♠Q♠ when he rivered the spade flush, king-high.

Final Five Faces
Level: 18 (5000/10000/10000) Entries: 5/63 Prizes: $23,940 They are down to five remaining in the PLO Bomb Pot game. Sebastien Fallu was the first player out in the money, for $1,436, while Ellen Brezina was the bubble tonight. She enjoyed her time at the table tonight and loves the PLO game. She called out a few players for their skills, including defending champ Nicholas Lee, Skyler York, and Teo Sanchez, and said she learned a lot from them tonight.
She left the game tonight on the bubble, but with “Great next time vibes”, as she put it on her way out.

Eddie G Leads Two Off the Money
Level: 16 (3000/6000/6000) Entries: 8/63 Prizes: $23,940 Eddie Guilbault is the leader in the PLO Double Board Bomb Pot game tonight. He has about 455k in front of him and is leading the table. The final 8 players are on a break at the end of Level 15, with Level 16 action at 3k/6k/6k coming in about 5 minutes.
-
Nearing the Money
Level: 15 (3000/5000/5000) Entries: 9/63 Prizes: $23,940 They are down to 9 players remaining in the PLO game now, with Level 15 about to begin. That puts them 6 off the money spots; Once they hit the money, I should be able to grab some pictures and some coverage, but I’ll still be watching the end-of-day proceedings in Event #3.

63 Entries Confirmed for PLO Bomb
Level: 13 (1500/3000/3000) Entries: 15/63 Prizes: $23,940 The PLO Double Board Bomb Pot game got 63 entries, and 6 players will be sharing in almost $24k in prizes later tonight. The field is down to 15 remaining — See below for a look at the payouts.

63 Entries on the Side
Level: 10 (800/1600/1600) Entries: 33/63 Prizes: $23,940 The side game is now 13 away from the April numbers, with 63 entries on the board. There are only about 20 minutes left to enter, however, so it looks like they’ll come up a bit short of the previous numbers.
-
50 Entries
Level: 8 (500/1000/1000) Entries: 32/50 Prizes: $19,000 The PLO Bomb game is running a bit slow today, with the field still 26 entries off the numbers from April. There is still a bit more than an hour remaining to enter the game, so the numbers will grow some from here, but it’s not looking good to hit April in this one.
-
46 Entries on First Break
Level: 5 (300/500/500) Entries: 33/46 Prizes: $17,480 The PLO game is on the first break of the day with the end of Level 5. They’ll be back at the felt for Level 6 in about 10 minutes, and the field is now at 46 entries. That leaves them still 30 entries off the April numbers for this event, but there are still about 2.5 hours left to get into this one.
Jerry Li is another player I’ve spotted in the field today. Li has a bracelet and two Circuit rings in the four-card game, as well as several other PLO wins from places like the Aria, the Venetian, and Jeju, South Korea. It’s safe to say Jerry knows four-card poker.
-
44 Entries Before First Break
Level: 5 (300/500/500) Entries: 33/45 Prizes: $17,100 The PLO field is up to 45 entries, with Tony Ma, who was deep in the Edmonton Main last weekend, as the most recent entry. I’ve also spotted PLO specialist Kurtis Ruhl in the field today, as well as Darlene Hernandez, so lots of the local PLO cruchers are out for this one.
-
21 Entries in Opening Level
Level: 1 (100/100/100) Entries: 21/21 Prizes: $7,980 The PLO game is growing with more than 20 entries in the opening level of play. In April, this game got 76 entries, so more than 20 in the opening level is easily on pace to meet or beat those numbers.
I likely won’t be watching this one very closely until much later in the day as I’ll be focused on the opening flight for Event #3 until it bags up, but my expectation is that this one goes pretty late, so I’m sure I’ll get over to cover a bit of this one.
