Cam Stewart played absolutely stellar poker on his way to taking down his first PPT main event trophy. Last years Pure Player of the Year, started the day hot accumulating the third largest stack by the first break. The field soon shrunk to 20 with Stewart maintaining his top stack. Former back-to-back winner Pav Braich hit the rail in 12th. Soon the final table was set, and Travis Darroch led the count with over 2,000,000. Both Stewart and Nu Teliani sat on his heels with over 1,900,000 each.
Stewart maintained his big stack, as Robert Limpert and Stefan Maloney hit the rail in dramatic fashion. Josh Wallace found himself on the wrong end of a cooler shoving Queens into Nadeen Narayan’s aces to fall shortly after. Sheraz Nasir found a large pot against Darroch’s kings after flopping a flush to chip up.
However, his tournament would come to a close as he blind raised and called off an all in from Darroch with kings. Darroch’s three’s were a heavy underdog, until a three on the flop flipped the odds. Nasir picked up a flush draw on the turn, but couldn’t improve to end his run. The short stacked Teliani soon fell to bring play three-handed. Narayan, found a double with “the snowmen” to even out the stacks. Both him and Stewart sat with over 3,000,000, while Darroch held 6,420,000.
However, it was short lived. His stack dwindled and he jammed King-Jack into Darroch’s pocket Aces. A dry board had Narayan drawing dead after the turn. Heads-up play was a battle with both players exchanging the chip lead. Stewart opened and received a call from Darroch who defended his big blind. Both players flopped a flush draw, and a quick bet, re-raise, and jam occurred.
The two players had less than a 300,000 difference in chip stacks, and it was Stewarts nut flush draw and ace-high that was a heavy favourite. An ace on the river sealed the deal, as Stewart had the slightly larger stack. With this win, Stewart also accumulated the most points in the Player of the Series race as an extra consolation.
