I took a stroll through the tournament area and stopped by Table 29 in pursuit of a Big Hand. There, chip leader Angel Popov opened to 25,000 from the Hi-jack. Michail Damoulis made the call from the Small Blind, and “Mr. X” joined the fun from the Big Blind.
As a live reporter, there is a lot of writing a hand up and then scrapping it, as it often turns out not to be that interesting. I certainly thought that was going to be the case this time, as the dealer revealed a Q♣2♥7♦ flop. Boy, would I turn out to be wrong. Action was checked to Popov, who fired a 35,000 continuation bet. Damoulis then raised to 80,000, “Mr. X” made the call, and so did Popov.
The turn was the K♥. Within seconds, Damoulis moved all in for 215,000. “Mr. X” re-shoved for perhaps 230,000, and as if things weren’t already crazy enough, Popov made the call in a heartbeat.
Michail Damoulis: Q♦2♦
“Mr. X”: Q♠Q♣
Angel Popov: K♥K♣
What an absolutely insane hand. The river bricked out, and Popov extended his already significant chip lead even further with the double elimination.
Angel Popov: 1,800,000
“Mr. X”: 0
Michail Damoulis: 0
