It Wasn’t Meant to Be

It was a short lived experience this time for me at the table in the Double Mystery Bounty Main Event of the Beer Poker Tour London.

I took my seat during the second level of the day, with blinds at 200/400 with a 400 running ante.

During my first lap of the table I was dealt these monsters..

Q6

nah

J2

nope

Q4

K2

I very nearly played this one.

95

Defended my big blind to this one, but the picture card heavy flop didn’t encourage me to continue.

Rather than getting too involved with any of this muck, i figured i’d just pay attention and see if I could suss out what kind of players I was up against.

The player in seat one was particularly aggressive, opening about 2-3 hands per round.

I continued to get similar monster hands for the next two levels, but found a few multi-pots that I could cheaply get into. But my hands didn’t really connect in any way with the boards and I went able to stay in any pots post flop.

Aware that I’m coming across like a rabbit in headlight, it’s hard not to notice that seat one was raising my big blind every time.

Raabit in Headlights

I eventually chanced it against him, but not on the big blind, flopping top pair with A9on a board of 985. He checked to me, I bet, he raised, I shoved, he called.

But of course, this time he had it… 99

The turn was 6giving me a chance to chop if a seven would fall on the river. But alas, the last card to hit the felt was 8 and that, as they say, was that. Nine high, like a chump. Goodnight Jon Boy!
