Jerry Li likes to say, “I got lucky,” when you congratulate him on a win. And, as a poker player, it’s good to acknowledge the part that luck plays in winning any tournament in this game. Players rarely win a tournament without getting there from behind at least once.
But equally, when a player racks up 3 rings and a bracelet in the same discipline, it’s safe to say there’s more going on than JUST luck. This was Li’s 3rd ring in 4-card poker, and he won a bracelet in the game a couple of years agi in Las Vegas as well, so it’s a safe bet that Li knows his 4-card poker.
In the earlier part of the day, Li was chasing leaders like Michael Khan (3rd, $11,372), but as they got to 3 tables, he started to turn up the heat. By the time they got to the final ten, he was sitting on the big stack, and he never gave it up.
Li was a bit of a wrecking ball at the final table, scoring most of the knockouts on his way to the win, and at the end, he had a stack of bounties worth at least $2k to go with his win. When he got heads up with Scott Fingland, he had a huge lead of about 3:1.
Fingland made it a game, however, getting into it with Li on several pots, and doubling up once to get within another double of the lead. But that was as far as he got, as Li’s relentless aggression at the FT kept him chipped down and on his heels.

In the final confrontation, the money went in on the 9 high rainbow flop, when Li check-shoved over a pot of 840k from Fingland. He called with aces and a queen-deuce of clubs, while Li was wrapped up like a mummy with eight-seven-six-six on the 5♠9♥2♣ flop.
The 7♣ turn gave Fingland a club draw, but it gave Li the made straight. When the river 6♦ came, Li’s straight held the day, and he had his 3rd PLO ring.
