It was a blind on blind hand between the two chip leaders at the table. “I know if I just call, you’ll raise me,” Bill Thomson, in the small blind, said. Ultimately, he still decided to limp in.
His prediction was correct – big blind Jim Berry shoved 805k. That sent Thomson into the tank for a couple of minutes as he talked through his options before finally making the call.
Thomson was looking for an ace with ace-seven against pocket nines for Berry. Thomson found what he needed, and then some, on the A♣5♥3♣A♦7♠ board.
Berry had the big stack, but only by about 50k, which he lost on the next hand. Meanwhile, Thomson is now the big leader with about 1.5 million in play.
