Mike Malm is no stranger to the limelight. In another masterclass performance, he bested the 87 player field to take home his third trophy of the week. Malm has shown an affinity to the mixed game events, opting to join the field over rebuying into Day 1a of the $670. Within fifteen minutes, he held the second largest stack with 180,000 at the second break.
He didn’t slow down becoming the first player to cross the million chip threshold. Heading into the final table, he held half of the chips in play. From there his hot seat and high pressure play found him claiming all, but two eliminations of the final table. Leon Doublet claimed those two and was the final player standing between Malm and the trophy.
Heads-up play looked to spur on, as Malm was heavily outflopped with Queens against Leon Doublet’s suited Ace-King with top pair flush draw. However, Malm smashed the case Queen to secure another trophy to add to his poker resume. He shared that this was his third trophy win of the week, as he hopes to retain his title as the API player of the year.
