The third edition of the 2025 Pure Poker Tour kicked off with the $340 Seniors First 50+. At this point, it’s more or less tradition that the senior tournament is the first event of every Pure Poker Tour stop, and it was no exception at the Pure Casino Edmonton.

Late registration closed after roughly five hours, and the tournament scored 143 entries, making it one of the biggest senior events on the Pure Poker Tour. This also created a $42,900 prize pool, with a $10,820 first-place prize. Players were trading blows back and forth, and chips flew left and right. Eventually, only 16 players remained, and hand-by-hand play was introduced on the bubble. It would be 30 minutes before Canadian poker profile Lyle Bateman would become the bubble boy, as he ran into the pocket queens of Dale Campbell.

Soon enough, the nine remaining players took their assigned seats on the final table. The final chapter of the tournament was more or less written solely by Shawn Taghavi. He got himself a big stack by eliminating most of the players on the final table, and after defeating Mike X heads-up, Taghavi could lift the trophy. Not only does he walk away with the $10,820 payout, but he also won his first Pure Poker Tour trophy.
