Siljander Closing in on Tarmi After €1,100 PLO4/5 Win

Mathias Siljander won Ring Event #6: €1,100 PLO4/5 During the 2025 WSOP Circuit Tallinn

Yesterday was the conclusion of Ring Event #6: €1,100 PLO4/5. It was a star-spangled final table, featuring players such like Riku Koivurinne (who was the title defender) and Andria Gogelidze (who was going for back-to-back titles after winning Ring Event #3: €555 PLO4/5). All seven players put all of their poker skills on full display, and in the end, it was Finland’s Mathias Siljander who was crowned the winner. This poker.pro reporter was fortunate enough to have a small chat with Siljander.

With the €41,000 he got for winning, Siljander’s total live tournament earnings now exceed €1,000,000, according to his profile on The Hendon Mob. That’s not what’s he’s currently chasing, though:

“I am chasing Roope Tarmi, but I don’t think this win was enough. So I guess I have to win the Main Event as well.”

It was a joyful journey for Mathias more or less the tournament throughout. Even though being matched up with some competent opponents initially, he managed to build up a big stack fairly quickly:

“I don’t think I lost an all-in during the whole tournament. The seat draw for the first table was bad; there were only good, Finnish players at the table, probably better than me. I got lucky here and there, and now, here we are.”

When asked whether he preferred the four- or five-card orbit, Mathias was very straight forward:

“5-card PLO is not a great game. You have to be tight, and that’s no fun. If you have a big stack it’s an okay game, but otherwise, I don’t like it.”

Mathias is hungry for more, and today, he managed to bag 155,000 from Day 1d of Ring Event #5: €1,500 Main Event. Patience was his key to get the decent stack. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint,” Mathias preached when we briefly discussed multi-table tournament strategies.

“I’ve been patient, letting the other guys play. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

t’s safe to say Mathias has some experience when it comes to winning big Main Event titles in the Estonian capital. In fact, he won the €1,100 Main Event during the 2024 Kings of Tallinn Autumn Edition for €130,300, his biggest live cash in his career so far.

Time will tell if Mathias manages to do a deep run in the Main Event, and pass his rival Roope Tarmi on The Hendon Mob rankings.
