It didn’t take long for the final hand to arrive. Tal Barasofsky opened to 625,000 with A♠5♠, and Veli-Pekka Penttinen looked down at 8♥8♣. The Finn decided his snowmen were strong enough to three-bet to 2,500,000. True to his style, Barasofsky wasn’t backing down. He four-bet jammed, and Penttinen snap-called.
With so many aces cracking pairs throughout the day, Barasofsky still had plenty of hope, but this time it would have to be some other way as the dealer spread out 8♠3♣2♠ flop, giving Penttinen top set while Barasofsky picked up a flush draw and a gutshot.
Barasofsky was looking for one of his eleven outs, but the 7♣ on the turn wasn’t one of them. He needed a spade or a four on the river to stay alive. Instead, the river brought the 3♦, improving Penttinen to a full house and sealing the victory.
Barasofsky finishes as runner-up, earning €112,775 from the three-way deal by far the best result of his career.
