The 2025 World Series of Poker is well and truly into the final stretch as the last weekend of the series dawns. The Main Event is getting down to the business end with just 57 players remaining in the biggest poker tournament of the year, and Canadian Eric Afriat is right in the mix after finding a big bag at the end of Day 6.
Meanwhile, there are multiple side games going on at Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas, and Canadians are bagging and cashing in those as well. Saskatchewan philanthropist Sunny Lubana tops the Canadian stacks in The Mid-Stakes Championship, leading 11 Canadian stacks that include Mike Leah and Kyle Ho.
High roller Ring winner Homan Mohammadi found the top 5 in the Hall of Fame game while Milly near-miss from last year, Stephen Dauphinais, is stacking big in the TORSE. On the cash side, Kurtis Ruhl had the best Canadian result from Event #91: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha while Samuel Roussy-Majeau scored five figures in the PLO Mystery Bounty.
Afriat is #2 in Main
There are just 57 players remaining in the Main Event now, and two of them are still Canadian. Maxim Babko is still in the hunt, but he’ll have a tough Day 7 coming back with just 2.55 million for the 55th place stack. Eric Afriat is at the other end of the list. He bagged up 31.2 million at the end of Day 6 for the second-place stack overall, behind leader Kenny Hallaert.
That left Samuel Roussy-Majeau as the top Canadian casher on Day 6. He ended his Main Event run in 123rd place for $70,000, leading two other Canadian cashes.
Lubana Leads Canadian Bags in Mid-Stakes

Saskatoon philanthropist Sunny Lubana is a familiar, and somewhat daunting, sight at Alberta poker tables when he comes into town. He’s also showing his skill in Vegas as the series comes to a close in Event #89: $3,000 Mid-Stakes Championship.
Lubana bagged the 26th-place stack after two days of play with 219 players left in the mix. He leads 11 Canadians still in that game with 1.3 million, or about 81 big blinds to start Day 3. Top-ten Canadian earner Mike Leah also figures in the Day 3 counts with 630k.
Whatever happens with Lubana through the rest of the event, some kids in India are already going to be happy. Lubana donates 10% of all his poker winnings to a family-run education charity that selects underprivileged children in India and funds their education costs for them. Those kids are now guaranteed a share of at least $8,357, but Lubana is the kind of player who is very likely to run his stack up to a very big score.
Ruhl Cashes Five Figures in PLO

Meanwhile, over in Event #91: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, local four-card regular Kurtis Ruhl had the best Canadian cash. He led 10 Canadians to the cash cage in this one, but was the only Canuck to crack five figures.
Frederic Normand, who had a close bracelet call early in the series, Daniel Negreanu, and Ari Engel figured in the payouts as well, adding more scores to those already impressive summer resumes, with Engel continuing to distance himself from the field in the overall cashing rate for WSOP games. He’ll close the series out on well over 600 WSOP cashes, giving him a solid lead of about 20 over the closest other player.
