Dattani, Greenwood Lead Canadian 1c Main Stacks; Taylor Runs Deep Again; Li Banks Big; Livingston Cashes Two More

Lucas Greenwood, one of three Greenwood brothers who all play at the highest level, bagged Canada’s #2 stack from Day 1c of the Main Event behind Umang “Ronnie” Dattani

With the third flight to the Main Event now in the books, the endgame of the 2025 World Series of Poker is truly underway. With less than two weeks remaining until the tables are all packed up in the various tournament rooms of Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas, the final few shots at a 2025 bracelet are now playing out.

Canadians were well represented in the Main Event bags on Friday with 34 maple leafs adorning the end-of-day counts. At the top of that list, with the 22nd best stack overall, was Calgary’s Umang “Ronnie” Dattani. Lucas Greenwood, one of three Greenwoods who play the game at the elite level, also bagged big on 1c for the second-best Canadian stack.

In other news, Thomas Taylor found another deep run in a big mixed-game, Jason Li final tabled Event #78, Alex Livingston cashed another two times for #12 and #13 this summer, makling him one of Canada’s most consistent cashers this series, though Ari Engel (who took over the lead for most WSOP cashes in history this series) and Taylor are also in the running for that title.

Dattani Leads 34 Canadian 1c Bags

A total of 34 more Canadians booked their Day 2 seats for the Main Event after the third starting flight played out on Friday. Calgary’s Umang “Ronnie” Dattani bagged biggest with more than 210k, while Toronto’s Lucas Greenwood has more than 190k, and Jonathan Dwek, also from the big TO, has about 180k for 2nd and 3rd respectively.

They led 11 Canadians with 100k or more for Day 2, including Surrey’s Thi “Annee” Ngo, who won the Ladies ring at the Jan 2025 edition of WSOP-C Calgary. Ngo bagged just under 155k for the 5th Canadian stack.

Taylor Close Again

Mixed-game specialist Thomas Taylor was at it again on Friday, running deep in the $10k 8-Game Championship. He was runner-up in a 9-game event earlier in the series, and while he knows all of the individual games well enough to play standalone with the best, he truly finds his groove in the rotational games like HORSE, 8-game, and 9-game.

He bagged himself another final table run in a rotational game in Event #82, but he’s still looking for that first, elusive bracelet. He bagged the lead at the end of Day 2 and, with 13 players left alive, it was a solid shot at going all the way.

Taylor’s Day 3 did not go well, and he found himself on the short stack when the final seven went to dinner. That would be as far as the Medicine Hat, Alberta native would make it, as he fell shortly after dinner in 7th place when Mike Gorodinsky, no slouch in rotational games himself, got there with nine-seven against Taylor’s ace-queen in Limit Hold’em. Taylor pocketed $51,385 for the finish, but I expect he’d give it back for the bracelet.

Livingston Keeps Cashing

Alex Livingston looks to be up to 13 cashes so far this series after booking two more in recent days. He booked #12 in the same event Taylor final tabled, banking a modest cash of $22,711 for 24th place before he pocketed another $8,260 for 60th place in Event #83: $2,500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em.

That puts his take from this year’s Series at about $270k with 13 cashes so far. His biggest came from 6th place in the $10k HORSE Championship, worth $76,581, and as if 13 WSOP cashes weren’t enough poker, Livingston also managed to pocket another $11k over at the Wynn during their Summer Classic.
