Opening Day Gets Chopped Up; Thomson & Nguyen Take Wins

There are two events in the books now for the 2026 Spring Super Stack, with opening day featuring the $340 Seniors and $230 NLH. The 50+ game drew 154 entries for almost $44k in prizes, while the evening side game drew 77 entries for $14,996 in the pot.

The Seniors were at the felt for more than 14 hours before Bill Thomson took down the win. It could have gone a lot longer, as they made a deal 6 ways for Thomson to take his 6th Seniors win since 2017.

Across the room, the $230 NLH played for about 8.5 hours after getting underway at 6 PM. The final two players made a deal to give Linh Nguyen the win.

Event #1: $340 Seniors ($300 + $40)

  • Entties: 154
  • Prizes: $43,890
  • Winner: Bill Thomson ($10,765 after 6-ay deal)

The 50+ game opened the 2026 Spring Super Stack at 11 AM on Apr 8, and the seniors played for more than 14 hours before a winner was decided. It could have gone longer, but the final 6 players cut a deal that saw Bill Thomson take the win.

Thomson had mountains compared to 5 molehills around the rest of the table, so he took the clear win, and the biggest adjusted prize of $10,765. The rest of the remaining 6 took $4,650 each for stacks that were all between 300k & 500k, compared to more than 1.5 million for Thomson.

Thomson is a bit of a Seniors whiz. He has 10 final tables in the 50+ format, including a 7th-place finish in the 2012 Seniors bracelet at the Summer WSOP. That WSOP game was his biggest score, but this game should slot in at #7 on his all-time cash list, for a lifetime total of more than $330k in live earnings.

Nguyen & Truong Chop Event #2

Event #2: $230 NLH ($205 + $25)

  • Entries: 77
  • Prizes: $14,996
  • Winner: Linh Nguyen ($3,974 after even heads-up chop)

The side game on opening day kicked off at 6 PM and ran for about 8.5 hours. A total of 77 entries built a prize pool of just shy of $15k, which 8 players got a piece of at the end of the night.

They hit the final table about 6.5 hours after the cards went in the air, and hit the money spots about half an hour later. It was then about 90 minutes to play through the money spots to the winner.

When Linh Nguyen and Andy Truong got heads up, they decided to cut a deal. Nguyen took the official win from the game, but they chopped the prizes evenly for $3,974 each.
