2026 Spring Super Stack – Event #2: $230 NLH

Shortly after the game got heads up, the final two players decided on an even chop. They were both close in chips, with the blinds increasing quickly.

Nguyen took the official win, while local grinder Andy Truong bagged second, with both players earning $3,974 in the chop.

They are heads up now after Matthew Ouellette got his jacks cracked by Linh Nguyen. Nguyen had queen-nine of clubs, and hit his queen on the flop to take it down. Nguyen is now heads-up against Andy Truong for the title.

Linh Nguyen opened to 90k under the gun, then called it off with more when Wyatt Reader shoved next to act. Reader was on K♥J♦ against A♠Q♥, and the 7♦9♠3♦8♦7♥ board didn’t change anything, leaving Nguyen’s ace in front.

Linh Nguyen opened under the gun to 60k before Matthew Ouellette reraised the button to 250k. Nguyen called off his stack of 245k total.

It was a race between sevens for Nguyen and ace-ten for Ouellette. It looked like Nguyen might be heading home when the flop and turn came 10♠J♥4♥A♣, but Nguyen called for a seven of hearts on the river, and the dealer delivered the 7♥ as ordered to give Nguyen the set of sevens for the double up.

I missed the action while I was out of the room, but Jordan Banfield was the short stack coming back from the break, and he ended his night in 5th place for $1,050.

Wyatt Reader is the current leader with about 800k in play. See below for the rest of the final five stacks, counted during the break.

Glenn Slater just hit the rail for 6th place tonight, leaving 5 players in the game and the average stack at less than 20 bigs. The players are on a break in a couple of minutes, and I’ll get the current chips then.

Event #2: $230 NLH ($205 + $25)

The first open event of the 2026 Spring Super Stack at Deerfoot Inn & Casino kicks off at 6 PM on Wednesday. The $230 game has $205 (minus 5%) going to prizes, and players sit down with 25k in chips to start.

The turbo game will play 20-minute blind levels throughout the night, with the entry desk open for 9 levels. Including the breaks, that should mean 9:30 PM is the final chance to buy into this one. After that, they’ll play down to a winner before the end of the night.

Last year, this event saw two chops to end the night, with both games going well into the early hours, forcing a move to the poker room to finish them out. In the Summer games, Jim Berry & Ryan Truong made an ICM chop over 126 entries, while the Spring game saw Justin Joson & Frank Gallie make an even chop at the end over 114 entries.

This game will be my second priority on opening day, with my main focus on the Seniors until they finish. I should get to the endgame of this one as they approach the money spots, however.
