Byczkiw Doubles Before Break; Thomson Leads
Level: 25 (25000/50000/50000) Entries: 6/154 Prizes: $43,890 Local Time: 1:00 AM Kevin Kemna opened early to 225k, and it folded around to Mark Byczkiw in the big blind. He was very short, with just 220k, and called all in blind.
He got a bit of a shock when he rolled over his hand, showing two black aces. Kemna was suited in hearts with a king-five. Kemna found a king on the flop, but nothing more, and the aces held for a double.
That left Byczkiw playing 400k, while the chip leader by a mile is Bill Thomson after he cracked Jom Berry’s nines recently.

Jim Berry It was a blind on blind hand between the two chip leaders at the table. “I know if I just call, you’ll raise me,” Bill Thomson, in the small blind, said. Ultimately, he still decided to limp in.
His prediction was correct – big blind Jim Berry shoved 805k. That sent Thomson into the tank for a couple of minutes as he talked through his options before finally making the call.
Thomson was looking for an ace with ace-seven against pocket nines for Berry. Thomson found what he needed, and then some, on the A♣5♥3♣A♦7♠ board.
Berry had the big stack, but only by about 50k, which he lost on the next hand. Meanwhile, Thomson is now the big leader with about 1.5 million in play.

50+ Game Kicks Off Spring Super Stack

Event #1: $340 Seniors (50+) ($300 + $40)
Date: Apr 8, 11 AM Blinds: 30 Minutes Starting Stack: 25k Late Entry: 8 Levels (~3:30 PM) Day 1 Ends: One-Day Event The 2026 Spring Super Stack at Deerfoot Inn & Casino is ready to roll. Live satellites for the series kick off on Tuesday, Apr 7, with two qualifier games at 2 and 6 PM, with the series proper starting at 11 AM on Wednesday morning with the Seniors game.
The Seniors game, which is restricted to players aged 50 or over, is the traditional series-starter here at Super Stack events. and despite the restricted field is still generally among the higher single-day fields of the entire series. Both the Spring & Summer Super Stacks in 2025 saw more than 170 entries for this one, and I expect this series to be in the same ballpark.
Players get 25k in chips for their $340, with $300 of that going to the prizes (minus 5% for AGLC charity & staff). Blind levels are 30 minutes long throughout the game, with 8 levels of open entry to start. That should put the last chance to enter the game at about 3:30 PM after the break following Level 8. The one-day game is expected to finish with no bags and a winner awarded sometime early Thursday morning.

Graham Lupton, Winner of the Seniors Event
Russ King
Gary Hellard In the 2025 Summer Super Stack, Graham Lupton came through for the win over 171 entries, and he dedicated the win to his recently departed dog. Meanwhile, in the Spring series last year, Russ King and Gary Hellard chopped up the top two Seniors spots over a field of 173.

Nealy 100 Entries before First Break
Level: 3 (200/300/300) Entries: 91/97 Prizes: $27,645 Local Time: 12:15 PM The 2026 Spring Super Stack is underway, and once again, the Seniors are kicking the series off in style. With the action on Level 3 just beginning, the field is just a few entries shy of 100. There are still about 3 hours left to enter the game today, with the first open-entry event this evening starting at 6 PM.
I am not on the floor for the Seniors game yet, as I expect it will be a late night tonight. I’ll pick up coverage of the Seniors action around the end of entries.
