The World Poker Tour is bringing its mid-stakes Prime brand back to Taipei this August, with a two-week poker festival packed with variety, value, and a massive championship. WPT Prime Taiwan runs August 6–19, 2025, hosted in partnership with the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP), and features dozens of events leading up to the TWD 30 million guaranteed WPT Prime Taiwan Championship.
The headline championship event starts August 14 and wraps up on August 19, giving players a shot at one of the biggest WPT Prime prizes in Asia for a buy-in of TWD 35,000 (~$1,170). The action unfolds in the heart of Taipei, where past editions have regularly attracted deep fields, strong side events, and a full range of games beyond the usual hold’em fare.
WPT Prime Taiwan Championship: Aug 14–19
The centerpiece of the festival is the WPT Prime Taiwan Championship, listed as Event #39 on the schedule. Players get 40,000 chips and 40–60 minute levels with unlimited re-entries through Level 10 of each Day 1 flight. The event kicks off with four starting flights:
- Day 1A – Thursday, Aug 14 at 11:00
- Day 1B – Friday, Aug 15 at 11:00
- Day 1C – Saturday, Aug 16 at 11:00
- Day 1D (Turbo) – Saturday, Aug 16 at 18:00

Roughly 12.5% of each flight makes the money and advances to Day 2 on Sunday, followed by Day 3 on Monday and the final table on Tuesday. Once the tournament reaches nine players, the final table plays eight-handed down to heads-up, with levels shortened to 30 minutes. The event guarantees TWD 30 million in prize money (~1,000,000).
Key Side Events and Signature Formats
The festival is much more than just the championship. It opens with The Opener on August 6 (TWD 2,000 buy-in, ~$67) with TWD 500k GTD (~$16,700) and the Championship Warm Up — a TWD 10,000 multi-flight event (~$335) with a TWD 3 million guarantee (~$100,000) running from Aug 6–9.
From bounty formats to mixed games, the variety is strong across the board:
- Survivor 30K Bounty (Aug 8–10): TWD 15,000 buy-in with TWD 5 million guaranteed. When the field reaches 20%, each remaining player gets TWD 30,000 and returns to play for the rest.
- 8 Max Championship (Aug 11–12): TWD 22,000 entry with a TWD 4 million prize pool, two starting flights and 30/25-minute levels.

- Super High Roller (Aug 13–14): TWD 250,000 buy-in and 250,000 chip stacks for the deep-pocketed crowd.
