British poker legend Chris Moorman has just about done it all over the past two decades with countless victories both on the online and live felts. It is just a matter of time before Moorman punches his ticket into the prestigious Poker Hall of Fame. Still, in the meantime, he is in a prime position to significantly add to his $9 million in live poker earnings, as tracked by The Hendon Mob, as he ended Day 4 of the $10,400 buy-in 2024 WPT World Championship with just 16 players remaining.
A decade ago, Moorman was in a similar spot when he won the $10,000 buy-in 2014 WPT L.A. Poker Classic for $1,015,460. Now, the two-time WSOP bracelet winner and WPT Champions Club member only needs to take fourth or better on Saturday’s final table to win even more than his epic victory in 2014.
Moorman’s victory in 2014 wasn’t his largest cash in a live poker event. He took fourth place last year in this very event for $2,095,300. To beat this, Moorman will need to win the event, which certainly seems more than possible before the start of Day 5, to earn the $3,138,900 top prize, which includes a $10,400 seat to the 2025 WPT World Championship.
Meanwhile, several other big events took place on Friday. Travis Egbert won the $25,800 buy-in 2024 WPT Alpha 8 for $684,684 after making a heads-up deal with Naj Ajez, who earned $600,000 for finishing one player shy of the trophy.
Glenn Gillam won the two-day, $1,100 buy-in 2024 WPT Seniors Championship for $112,117 after agreeing to a four-way deal with David Swenson ($100,105), R Lowe ($107,491), and Kenneth Stacy (fourth – $91,526).
The 2024 WPT $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship attracted 1,570 entries during its two opening flights, creating a massive $4,317,500 to smash the lofty $3 million guarantee. WPT Global ambassador Ethan “Rampage” Yau leads the way when the action resumes at Noon with the 195 Day 2 players in the money for at least a $6,515 min-cash, with the winner slated to be awarded a whopping $702,844 top prize. Head to the World Poker Tour website to follow along the action of this three-day event.
Moorman Ends Day 4 With Momentum
Chris Moorman took the chip lead on the final hand of Day 4 with 30.6 million in chips as he eliminated Geoff Keogh in 17th place for $176,000 in a big pot. Moorman jammed with jacks, and there were already over 7 million in the pot on a ten-high board. Keogh paused for a minute before he called off his stack of 5.7 million with king-ten suited, only to learn his top pair would send him to the rail against Moorman’s over pair to end the action on Thursday evening.
While Moorman is the only player above 30 million in chips, with blinds scheduled at 125,000/250,000 along with a 250,000 big blind ante when the action resumes at Noon for the players and 30 minutes later for those watching the stream at the World Poker Tour YouTube channel, he doesn’t have a firm hold on top of the leaderboard. Scott Stewart is not too far behind with 29.1 million.
Brian Yoon (22.6 million), Christian Roberts (22.1 million), and Ryan Yu (20 million) will also begin the penultimate day with at least 20 million in chips. At the same time, Joshua Lisberger (19.3 million), WPT Global Director of Product Jonathan “Jonty” Willis (19.3 million), WPT Prime Slovakia champion Fabian Gumz (14.8 million), and Edward Pak (13.3 million) will all start with at least 10 million.
Slovenia’s Anže Šmajd (9.8 million), Robert Sherwood (9 million), WPT Venice Carnival champion Andrea Dato (7.8 million), Jeremy Wien (7.3 million), San Kim (6 million), A.J. Kelsall (4.6 million), and Mykhailo Lendel (3.6 million) will start Day 5 with the short stacks in hopes of making Saturday’s televised official six-max final table.
You can follow today’s action at the World Poker Tour YouTube channel and the World Poker Tour live blog, which will also be reported on a 30-minute delay to prevent spoilers for those watching the live stream.
2024 WPT World Championship Payouts
Saturday’s 2024 WPT World Championship winner at the win is slated to go home with a massive $3,138,900 top prize (includes a $10,400 seat to the 2025 WPT World Championship), with the top four spots all awarding a seven-figure prize.
With players already deep in the money on Day 5 for at least a $176,000 payday, they will be looking to move up the payout ladder while accumulating chips to put them in a better spot to advance to the final table with a shot at a life-changing prize with player advancing to tomorrow six-max final table earning at least a $665,000 payout.
