Entering Day 2, Ben Sarnelli and Ali Razzaq were looking to capitalize on their leading stacks to make a deep run. Both of them succeeded with flying colours as it came down to a battle between the two veterans for the trophy. Ultimately, it was Ben Sarnelli who took down his first PPT Main Event trophy. However, it wasn’t quietly that he overcame the 260 player field on his run. The event combined for a $244,530 prize pool with Sarnelli taking the top spot of $54,250.
While Sarnelli found some success early in the day, Razzaq came out the gate swinging. By the first break he had a monster stack of 1,530,000, eclipsing the next closest stack by nearly 500,000. Sarnelli found a sneaky elimination checking a flopped set through two streets to eliminate Francis Fan. Eliminations were rapid with back to back eliminations bringing play to a final table. Razzaq and Sarnelli seemed poised for a deep run with 2,830,000 and 1,740,000 respectively.
Dana Shore found the first knockout with a flopped set against top pair top kicker. He soared near the chip lead between Razzaq and Sarnelli with all three players having 1,900,000+. Quentin Siffledeen found a dream spot picking up Aces into Queens and Ace-Queen. Aces seemed to be making their way around the table, as Sarnelli picked them up shortly after. He found an all in against Razzaq’s Kings. With Shore folding the other pair of Kings, Sarnelli found the double up to gain an overwhelming chip lead.
Sarnelli found rapid eliminations with a flopped straight, and Ace-King against Queens to hold over half the chips in play. Siffledeen lost a big pot against Paul Williams Queens, and Razzaq landed the killing blow against his 5 big blind jam. Razzaq found the same scenario doubling with Queens against Williams dominated Ace High jam. Shortly after, Razzaq called off his shove to bring plat to heads-up.
Razzaq found an early pot to pick up momentum against Sarnelli. However, Sarnelli applied maximum pressure to whittle Razzaq to a dangerously short stack. It all came to a head when Razzaq jammed K♣7♣ against Sarnelli’s A♦J♦. Two clubs on the flop gave Razzaq more out’s to catch. Unforntunately, the board bricked out to give Sarnelli the title. The creator of the PPT Fantasy League cemented his legacy among PPT Main Event winners with a dominant showing to take home his first Main Event.
