It was Sharma Time in the Chrome Room tonight, as DJ Sharma stormed through the 167-entry field in the $1k Turbo. He was on fire, playing his Sharma Time game to perfection, with the final hand being a near-perfect encapsulation of his night.
All through the evening, and into the final table, he was in control, with chips to splash around. He wasn’t always the leader, but once he had the ring in sight, he locked in. One of his biggest strengths is always forcing opponents into big decisions, and he did that throughout the final table, sending most of the players home.
His final table run to the ring started 10-handed when he was all-in with “Gretzky” against two overpairs, and he found his nine for a set, knocking out Thomas Taylor & Chi Chan. He then woke up with queens against the ace-jack all-in from Ning Zhuang and held.
Sharma followed that up by finding ace-queen against Glenn Slater’s ace-five all-in. A bit later, he was dominated against bracelet & double ring winner Chris “Pokin StaR” Alcindor, but still found a way to hit a ten on the river with his ace-ten against the big slick for Alcindor.
Runner-up Abhay Dogra was the one to get them heads-up after that, however, by knocking out triple ring winner Kyle Ho in 3rd place.
The final hand was classic Sharma Time magic. Dogra managed to chip up to a lead when he pulled a bit of Dogra Time on Sharma. He raised to 300k with blinds at 100k/150k/150k and Sharma called to a flop of 2♣J♥5♥. Dogra check-called for 360k. They both checked the 2s turn, and Dogra check-called 560k on the J♦ river.
Sharma showed the ten-seven bluff, but he was technically head of Dogra’s ten-deuce preflop, Dogra’s deuce was now king. That gave Dogra the lead, but Sharma is never one to give up. Dogra limp-folded to a shove on the next hand, and Sharma doubled with a button shove and a call in the next hand. He had the offsuit nine-eight, while Dogra was on ace-deuce, but Sharma turned a nine on K♦Q♠K♠9♠6♣.
That gave him the lead again, and after another limp-fold from Dogra, Sharma shoved the button blind. Dogra called with 8♣4♣ against Q♦3♠. Dogra flopped a 4, but Sharma had an open-ended draw to the baby straight. The turn paired the deuce, but the six on the river hit Sharma right where he needed it.
Mike Malm was on hand to capture the golden moment.
