Matt Staples opened to 160,000 from the cutoff, and was met with an all-in of 850,000 from Dorian Dizy in the small blind.
Jose Maria Perez was in the big blind, and he rejammed, covering both players. Staples quickly moved his 1,025,000 total stack into the middle, to create a huge three-way all-in scenario.
Dorian Dizy: A♦J♦
Matt Staples: K♦K♣
Jose Maria Perez: A♣K♥
In a cooler, Staples looked in great shape with kings.
The Q♥9♥3♥ flop was clear for the PartyPoker Tour team member, but the 6♥ turn gave Perez outs to the flush.
In cruel fashion, the 7♥ hit on the river, giving Perez a double knockout and sending Staples and Dizy to the rail, earning gasps of shock from the crowd watching on the TV beneath the stage.
Staples was consoled with a great reception from his PartyPoker teammates, and has final table finishes in both flagship events this week.
Rees and Perez have now stretched out ahead of the field.

Jonathan Rees – 5,225,000
Jose Maria Perez – 4,650,000
Matt Staples – 0
Dorian Dizy – 0
