Liu and Shen Go Big in Lucky 7’s
It was another packed day of action for Canadian grinders at the 2025 World Series of Poker, headlined by a pair of massive final table finishes in one of the most chaotic events of the series.
Alex Liu added another signature score to his already impressive resume, finishing 2nd in Event 90: $777 Lucky 7’s for a monster $332,777 payday. The former WSOPC Calgary Main Event champ continues to prove his chops on both sides of the border, battling through a massive field of more than 8,000 runners to reach heads-up play. Though the bracelet narrowly eluded him, the six-figure finish marks a new high point in Liu’s Vegas career.

Just behind him was Allen Shen, who kept up his summer momentum with a 4th-place finish worth $181,777. Shen’s been quietly piecing together a breakout series, having already made a 10th-place run earlier in the summer. This latest deep run adds weight to what’s quickly becoming a serious 2025 campaign.
Negreanu, Watson, and Roussy-Majeau Find Success in the $10K 6-Max

Over in the high-stakes streets of Event 94: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed, three Canadian stars found the payout desk. Daniel Negreanu and Mike Watson each picked up $64,448, while Samuel Roussy-Majeau added $29,070 to his strong mixed-game-heavy summer. It wasn’t a final table sweep, but all three proved once again they can hang with the best in one of the toughest formats on the schedule.
Crema and Provost Add More Scores

Sebastian Crema led the Canadian charge in Event 95: $800 NLH Deepstack, finishing 23rd for $11,189. In Event 96: $3,000 PLO, Mathyeu Provost secured Canada’s top cash with $9,968 for 44th, keeping the momentum going in the four-card streets.
Renmei Liu Bags Big in The Closer

On the opening flight of Event 97: $1,500 The Closer, Renmei Liu bagged big, ending the day 29th overall with 910,000 to lead the Canadian pack into Day 2. With more flights to go, expect a wave of red-and-white flags still to come.
Negreanu and Mozdzen Still Kicking in the $25K H.O.R.S.E.
And finally, the late-night update from the $25K H.O.R.S.E. sees two of the country’s top mixed-game minds still in contention. Clayton Mozdzen (267,000) and Daniel Negreanu (263,000) sit back-to-back in the chip counts heading into Day 2 of Event 98. With a stacked field around them, both will be looking to grind their way to a podium finish—and maybe even a bracelet.
