Elain Rawn was among the deep Canadian runners from the weekend action at the 2025 World Series of Poker hosted by Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas. She cashed out for 6th place in Event #73: $1,500 Eight Game Mix for a score of just shy of $30k.
Along with Rawn, the #1 WSOP casher in the world, Ari Engel, padded his record on the weekend with a couple of cashes to total more than 600 now. Kyle Ho led 7 Canadian cashers from Day 2 of the $10k PLO, but there are still 3 Canadians vying for the bracelet, including Thomas Taylor, who bagged Canada’s best stack in the game with 1.645 million, good for 7th place with 56 players returning.
Duane Fernandez had a great Sunday as well, bagging the overall lead in the opening flight of the Mini Main Event. He led 24 Canadian stacks and the rest of the field with 2.67 million.
Rawn Grabs Final Table Finish
With all forms of poker represented, the 8-game mix requires an understanding of all the various forms poker can take. Canadian Elaine Rawn showed she can handle any number of cards in front of her after going deep in Event #73: $1,500 Eight Game Mix.
She was the top Canadian player from 7 cashers in the event, which included one of Ari Engel’s two weekend cashes. Rawn had about $70k in earnings going into this one, and the $29,234 score was nearly 3x her previous high score, putting her career total over $100k now.
Canada Leads Mini Main Counts After One Flight
The opening round of the Mini Main played out on Sunday, and when the dust settled, Canadian Duane Fernandez was the player with the biggest stack in the whole room. He bagged up 2,670,000 at the end of Day 1a, nearly 200k (~4 big blinds) more than second place.
Fernandez leads 24 Canadian bags from the opening flight, including Pushpinder Signh, who was deep in the team game with partner Mehmet Siginc earlier in the week, as well as WSOP-C Calgary ring winner Tommy Nguyen.
Taylor Takes Another Shot

Thomas Taylor has been close to a bracelet a few times this year with three final tables and two runner-up finishes so far, including the recent $3k 9-game where he got to the final hurdle, then fell to Robert Wells for 2nd place. He’ll be taking another shot at his first bracelet in Event #74: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship as he brings the 7th-best stack into Day 3 with 56 players remaining.
Alex Livingston and Marcello Del Grosso will be joining Taylor on what is scheduled to be the final day of play. Livingston already has his 10th cash of the series in this one — the only question at this point is how big it’ll be. He bagged up the 18th-place stack worth 1.24 million.
Negreanu with the Big Bets
Event #76: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet kicked off on Sunday and there are two Canadian bags at the end of the opening day of play. There were 459 entries for prizes of just over $1 million, and 101 players found a bag at the end of the night. Daniel Negreanu, Canada’s #1 poker earner, bagged up 188k, good for 33rd place, while Tara Dunn will advance to Day 2, but she’ll start with the nut-low stack of 8,500 in 101st place.
