The final table seemed to be topped by ladies with previous cashes as Alessia Coco also held a prior cash in FLIP events.

The day kicked off with a friendly tone as Daiva Byrne (Founder of Fantastic Ladies In Poker) partnered with the Intercontinental Malta to invite players to a pre-tournament tea party. Fit with their choice of coffees, sweets, and champagne, the ladies shared laughs and stories of how they came to play the event. The party grew larger and larger closer to registration with photos and interviews being recorded throughout.
2025 Battle of Malta FLIP Tea Party Among those in attendance were a few former champions of the event, including last year’s reigning champion Gia Carnestroem, and two-time winner Emma Oliver. Oliver was among those voted best dressed, along with Johanna Madier and the Media Team’s own Lorena Antunes.
Emma Oliver Dressed to Impress Chelsea Glynn shared that it was her first time playing a tournament out of the UK and how she was excited to make a splash at her first FLIP event and Madier exuded confidence declaring that she would win it all. The mood was festive and I even dressed for the occasion with some advice from first time player Lisa McNamara. The lunch continued until shortly before the event began at 2:30 p.m. where action was immediately underway.
The Earliest Action and Subsequent Re-entries
Antunes took down the first reported hand of the tournament playing at the “killer table” where many of the previous winners sat. Guede looked to win back her crown early as she raced up the chip ladder. Oliver’s aggressive style saw similar results with both ladies finding above average stacks early. By the first break, Birgit Ruuto (69,000) and Carnestroem (59,000) sat far above the pack with a nearly 10,000 gap to the nearest lady.
Glynn hit the rail in brutal fashion when former runner-up Tannbaum and her flopped set over set. A former guest on the Battle of Malta Talk Show Becky Sanders hit the rail along with Antunes. The talk show featured many guests who shared ties to the FLIP Ladies Event, including the ambassador and the most recent guest, Byrne. Check out the episodes on the channel below.
Every Lady for Herself; Registration Ends
The action picked up with only 12 ladies remaining at the dinner break. Rebecca Rivoli broke away from the pack with 212,000 meanwhile Madier (136,000), and Alessia Coco (122,000) were held podium places as the only other players with over 100,000 chips. Things didn’t slow down as the final table was set to play 9-handed. Only 7 of the ladies would make the money with a trophy awaiting the victor.
Things didn’t slow down as McNamara fell to the bubble with brutal back-to-back hands against Florence Mazet. An unlucky night for her as she also bubbled the HyperTurbo just short of the money. Mazet was the next on the chopping block after luck turned its head on her. She flopped a set but lost to a running straight to be left short stacked. A few hands later she moved all in and lost the 60/40 to fall in 7th place. Rivoli was the next to hit the rail after she jammed pocket threes from an early position and was called by Celine Berruyer’s pocket jacks. The board ran out clean for her to be sent home in 6th place.
Daiva Kyrne & Lisa McNamara Flavia held the chip lead six-handed and Madier’s luck from earlier had run out. She called off an all in with pocket Jacks against Queen-Jack suited. Immediately the odds reversed after the flop held a Queen and Madier failed to find the case Jack on the river. Berruyer fell shortly after in 4th place after running into Taunnbam’s pocket rockets. The podium places were set as all three remaining ladies found deep runs in previous iterations of the tournament.
Maili Tannbaum, Alessia Coco, & Flavia Guedes Not long into three-handed play, Coco found herself the victim of too many outs syndrome. She flopped the world with A♠J♣ on the 4♣3♣2♣. Fortunately for Tannbaum, her 10♣10♠ held to send Coco out in 3rd place (€760). Heads up play was a slight back and forth until Tannbaum’s recent hand found its way to Guava’s seat. The former champions aces held for Guedes to take the trophy along with her 4rd Malta FLIP tournament.
Stay tuned for more coverage as the main plays down to eight players later today. This sets the stage for a thrilling final Day 5, during which a winner of the beloved series will be announced.
