Matt Staples opened to 400,000 from the cutoff, and called a three-bet jam of 1,725,000 from Hugo Gotuzzo in the big blind.
Hugo Gotuzzo: J♠J♦
Matt Staples: A♦K♠
It was a fair fight, and Gotuzzo remained ahead after the Q♠10♦5♦ flop, Staples picking up a gutshot.
However, the K♥ hit on the turn, and Gotuzzo was up out of his chair.
He still had outs to the straight and a chop, but they did not arrive on the 4♣ river, making the Argentinian the first casualty of the final table, and extending Staples lead.
Matt Staples – 7,625,000
Hugo Gotuzzo – 0
