Stephen Dauphinais started heads up with a big lead over Colten Yamagishi, but Yamagishi put up a strong fight, getting back to even. In fact, when the big confrontation happened, Yamagishi was in front by 10k.
In the pivotal hand, Dauphinais raised the button to 90k, and Yamagishi called. It all kicked off on the Q♠J♥8♦ flop. Yamagishi checked, Dauphinais fired 160k, and Yamagishi shoved.
Daphinais called it off with top pair, holding queen-five, but Yamagishi was on two pair with jacks & eights. It looked like Yamagishi might take it down, until the 5♥ turn gave Dauphinais the bigger two pair. The river bricked, and when the stacks were counted down, Yamagishi was left with just two whites in front of him, worth 10k.
He managed to double up once, but the epic “two chips and a chair” story wasn’t to be. The final hand saw Yamagishi’s fumes go in with nine-seven off, and Dauphinais called it down with jack-five. The runout missed both hands, and Dauphinais took it down with jack-high.
