Cal Johnson Wins Seniors for $33,615
I thought I’d have a chance to catch the endgame of the Seniors tonight, but the final table of the 4-Flight ran a bit longer than expected, so it was still underway when the Seniors finished their day. As a result, I don’t really have a lot of detail on the action for the Seniors.
Cal Johnson was the winner tonight, defeating Carlos Alaniz in the heads-up phase. Gord Chester, Ranko Zec, and Trevor Simpson rounded out the top five winners tonight. Simpson actually bagged his second cash of the day after min-cashing Day of the 4-Flight.

Down to 7 Left
Level: 21 (40000/80000/80000) Entries: 7/564 Prizes: $186,120 I’m still watching the end of the 4-Flight game so I haven’t caught any of the action on this one yet, but they are down to 7 left now after Cynthia Kaspers, Weijie Zhang, and Rick Donovan were the first three off the final table, in that order.

Final Table Faces
I am very much behind the times with the payouts in this event at the moment as they are down to the final table. I grabbed some pictures of the final 10, but I’m still watching the final table of Event #4 so I won’t be watching the seniors very closely for a while.

In the Money
Level: 15 (6000/12000/12000) Entries: 54/564 Prizes: $186,120 The Seniors is moving quickly despite the big field with just 54 players left in the game in Level 15. Payouts to date are below, with the full prizes under the payouts tab.
Place Player Prize 55 Michael Letal $844 56 James Mccrimmon $844 57 Paul Sokoloff $844 58 Lorne Voth $844 59 Laura Mccollom $844 60 Thomas Mansell $844 61 Gary Tripps $844 62 Frederick Werezak $844 63 Darrell Moore $804 64 John Foley $804 65 Earl Martin $804 66 Gerald Nelner $804 67 Gerald Edwards $804 68 Richard Bracchi $804 69 Jennifer Leubkert $804 70 Max Fernandez $804 71 Behnam Esfahanizadeh $804 72 Don Kehler $804 73 Martin Sayle $804 74 Richard Housch $804 75 Richard Mclaren $804 76 Pierre St. Martin $804 77 David Page $804 78 Duane Van Keulen $804 79 Garry Chan $804 80 Garth Frizzell $804 81 William Harrison $804 82 Kevin Baraluk $804 83 Mohammad Feizi $804 84 Thomas Dratwa $804 85 Frederick Perron $804 -
50 Off the Money
Level: 12 (2000/4000/4000) Entries: 135/564 Prizes: $186,120 The Seniors game is down to 135 players left with the action in Level 12. They’ll go for a dinner break following this level and it looks like the bubble will come in Level 14 or 15 tonight.

New Record Confirmed – $33k to the Winner
Level: 11 (1500/3000/3000) Entries: 162/564 Prizes: $186,120 The prizes are in for the Seniors game and the field is confirmed at 564 entries for more than $186k in prizes. The winner later tonight is set to pocket $33,615 with more than $100k on the final table.
I likely won’t be over to watch this one until they are well into the money, but it will also depend on how late Day 2 of the 4-Flight runs.

564 Entries is New Record for Calgary Seniors
Level: 9 (1000/1500/1500) Entries: 252/564 Prizes: $186,120 Entries are now closed on the Seniors game and it was a huge one. The numbers are still unofficial, but the final tally on the board was 564 entries for prizes of $186,120. That’s a new record for the Seniors game here in Calgary beating the previous high by more than 100 entries.
If the numbers hold, it looks like 85 players will getting a piece of the prizes later tonight, and this could be a late one, given the size of the field.

More than $1 Million in Prizes So Far
Level: 7 (400/800/800) Entries: 329/529 Prizes: $174,570 The Day 2 players are back in their seats for the first level at 45 minutes. I’ve just been collating the data from all the events so far, and the series has already capped $1 million in total prizes without even considering the Seniors and HORSE games set to run today. With those included, it’s likely that the total prizes at the end of Sunday will be in the range of $1.4 million or more with the Seniors field closing in on $175k in prizes.
It remains to be seen how the turnout will be in the final week of the series starting tomorrow, but it’s still looking pretty good to meet or beat the 2024 Jan total of $5.8 million.
-
Seniors Beat 2024
Level: 6 (300/600/600) Entries: 354/471 Prizes: $155,100 The Seniors field today is now the second event to beat the 2024 numbers after the first event of the series beat it by 1 entry. This win is a bit more significant, however, as they are already close to 20 extra over 2024 with just under 2 hours left to enter the game. Given the current numbers, it seems likely this one will cap 500, which will be the first time the Seniors has ever gone that big here at WSOP-C Calgary. The prizes are currently over $155k.
-
Huge Field for Seniors
Level: 4 (200/400/400) Entries: 424/424 Prizes: $139,590 It’s a big turnout for the Seniors today. The action is still in Level 4 with more than 2 hours left to enter and the field is already over 400 entries. Last January the field was 453 total, and they are now less than 30 away from that total so it seems very likely this event will cap the 2024 number.
I won’t be following this one very closely until later in the day as my early day will be focused on Day 2 of the 4-Flight.

Seniors on Sunday
Event 6: $400 Seniors ($330 + $70) Date: Jan 12, 11 AM Blinds: 30 Minutes Starting Stack: 20k Late Entry: 8 Levels (~3:30 PM) Day 1 Ends: One-Day Event The Seniors game is the early start on Sunday with the game kicking off at 11 AM. Players will sit down with 20k in chips to play 30-minute levels for the whole day.
Late registration is open for 8 levels plus breaks which should put the last chance to enter at about 3:30 pm. This is a one-day event so once entries close, they’ll be playing down to a winner before they shut down for the night.
I likely won’t be watching this one very closely in the early part of the day as my attention will be on Day 2 of the 4-Flight, but once that game ends I’ll move over to cover the endgame of this one.
