  • Ross Wilson Gets Another Win

Ross Wilson (R), Winner of E7 & Tina Nguyen (L), runner up in E7

After nearly two hours heads up, the PLO Double Board Bomb Pot is finally over. Tina Nguyen came into heads up a slight dog tonight, but she wasn’t about to go down gently.

They traded chops for the first 30 minutes of heads-up without much change in the chip lead, but Nguyen was able to chip up into the lead for a while. The pair talked chop at one point during heads up, but Wilson is in the running for player of the series (this is his second win with other cashes this week as well), and, while he didn’t have an issue chopping the money, he wasn’t interested in chopping up the points, so they played it out.

In the final hand, Nguyen was all-in before the flops with ace-jack-seven-five with diamonds against queen-jack-ten-eight with hearts for Wilson. Wilson’s two pair on the top and boat on the bottom, using queen-ten for both sides, scooped the pot for the win.

This will almost certainly put Wilson in the driver’s seat for Player of the Series, but I don’t know what the actual points are at the moment. I’ll try to get the current standings updated during the day tomorrow.

    Entries:2/93
    Prizes:$35,340

    Andrew Breton

Andrew Breton was short after the big three-way all-in that saw Jody Fayant hit the rail in 4th place. He got his money in a couple of hands later on the flops of 6105 & Q64. Breton had AQ85 against J1098 for Tina Nguyen.

When the boards were complete with 2K & 710. Nguyen scooped it with the best pair on the top and a straight on the bottom.

Ross Wilson and Nguyen then made a deal heads up for second-place to get $8,100 instead of the original payout of $7,070.

It checked to Tina Nguyen on the turns, and she fired 180k. That was enough to get her heads up against Said and she was ahead on the top with a straight, but behind the flopped kings for Said on the bottom.

    Raji Said: K973
    Tina Nguyen: QQ82

The 4 bottom river didn’t change anything there, but the Q on the top gave Nguyen the set of queens and the scoop, sending Said home in 6th place.

There is a break in just under an hour, and I’ll get full chip counts then, but it looks like Wilson & Maxwell are still the leaders with more than 700k each.

  • 30 Minutes to Enter; Adjusted Prizes

    Level:9 – 4500
    Entries:25/84
    Prizes:$31,920
    Local Time:5:10 PM

5 Minutes remain in Level 9, with the dinner break to follow this level. That means there are a bit more than 30 minutes left to enter this game.

I had a bit of a brain fart on my spreadsheet for this one, and I was initially using a low buy in to calculate the prizes. I’ve adjusted that now, so my previous prize pool estimates are all too low, but from here on out, the prizes should be accurate to the $450 buy in for this game.

  • Final Level of Entry

    Level:9 – 4500
    Entries:26/81
    Prizes:$23,085
    Local Time:4:55 PM

They are in the final level of entries now for the Double Board Bomb Pot, with a bit more than 15 minutes to play in Level 9. There’s a 30-minute dinner break following this level, and entries close when they sit down for Level 10.

  • 80 Entries with an Hour to Go in Registration

    Level:8 – 4000
    Entries:29/80
    Prizes:$22,800
    Local Time:4:35 PM

Just over an hour remains in the entry period for the PLO Double Board Bomb Pot game, with the field now at 80 entries. It seems likely they’ll get another 5-10 entries at least before it closes after the break following Level 9, so this field could break 90 or even push into 3 digits.

  • $20k in Prizes

    Level:6 – 3000
    Entries:35/70
    Prizes:$19,950
    Local Time:3:45 PM

Just under 2 hours remain in entries for the Double Board Bomb Pot game, with the action now approaching the second break of the day. The field is now at 70 entries, for prizes just shy of $20k. Given the pace of entries at the moment, it’s looking like a final field size between 80 and 90 is in the cards.

  • Nearing 60 Entries

    Level:5 – 2500
    Entries:39/58
    Prizes:$16,530
    Local Time:3:00 PM

The Bomb Pot field is nearing 60 entries now, for prizes of more than $16k so far. The registration desk is still open for more than 2 hours, and I expect rebuys to be pretty brisk on this one right up to the end.

Among the players in the field so far are Leo Xhang, Pete Fylyma, Kenny Gooding, Ryan Comely, Paul Meyer, Rob Limpert, Keith Stick, Benny Sarnelli, John Donnelly, Johnny Dalphond, Glyn Gracias, Nu Teliani, and 9-time Canadian national slo-pitch player Justin Pennell, who will be battling the US with the rest of the Canadian team in the Border Battle coming up next month.

  • 44 Entries before First Break

    Level:3 – 1500
    Entries:36/44
    Prizes:$12,540
    Local Time:2:20 PM

The Bomb Pot players are about to head out for their first break of the day, and it looks like a decent turnout so far. Entries are still open for about 3 hours, and the field is already approaching 50 entries. Given the context of this series, and a brand new format for the PPT, that seems like a solid start.

  • Expect Some Action in the PLO Double Board Bomb Pot

    Date:May 11, 1 PM
    Blinds:25 Minutes
    Starting Stack:50k
    Late Entry:9 Levels (~5:35 PM)
    Day 1 Ends:One-Day Event

The PLO Double Board Bomb Pot game is a new addition to this series, and it promises to be action-packed, with a bomb pot on every hand of the game. That puts the whole table in every hand, at least to the two flops.

The action gets going at 1 PM, and blinds are 25 minutes. Note that this game doesn’t have small/big blinds due to the structure. Instead, the ante starts at 500 and increases with every level, and all players will pay an ante on every hand.

Entries will close at about 5:35 PM when they return from the 30-Minute dinner break following Level 9, and then they race to the trophy in this one-day event.

As this is the first time this format has run on the PPT, there is nothing to compare it to. However, with one or two notable exceptions, the excited buzz around the Pearl Room today about this game has been palpable, and it will be very interesting to see the field size.

I’ll be focusing on this as my main game on Monday, but expect me to be late to the floor.

  • Ross Wilson Gets Another Win

In the final hand, Nguyen was all-in before the flops with ace-jack-seven-five with diamonds against queen-jack-ten-eight with hearts for Wilson. Wilson’s two pair on the top and boat on the bottom, using queen-ten for both sides, scooped the pot for the win.

This will almost certainly put Wilson in the driver’s seat for Player of the Series, but I don’t know what the actual points are at the moment. I’ll try to get the current standings updated during the day tomorrow.

They are down to 13 remaining in the Double Board game with Level 14 nearly complete. That puts them 3 off the money spots.

Eric Wasylenko, Carl Sellars, and Ed Tonellier were the recent busts to bring the game to 13.
