Jiretorn Fightning For Her Tournament Life

The remaining six players in the €555 Open-Face Chinese are on the bubble; it’s getting rather interesting.

Sweden’s Eva “Chic” Jiretorn was playing her hand, while her opponent, Johnny Johansen, was in Fantasy Land. At the last draw, Jiretorn picked up 887; she completed her bottom row with the two eights, and doing so, she qualified:

  • Top: QQ6
  • Middle: 64677
  • Bottom: 1010988

Considering she was one of the shortest stacks, Jiretorn was happy. Her joy didn’t last for long, though; Johansen returned to the table and revealed his hand:

  • Top: 555
  • Middle: KQJ109
  • Bottom: 22227

Jiretorn owed Johansen 26 points (which translated to 78,000, considering each point was worth 3,000). She made Fantasy Land, though, and the following hand, she returned with:

  • Top: J109
  • Middle: 3456A
  • Bottom: QQ888

“Are you kidding me?” a disappointed Jiretorn saw once she saw what Johansen had been able to produce:

  • Top: KK5
  • Middle: AAJJ6
  • Bottom: 9JQ7A

This left Jiretorn with 13,000, but she managed to win some points during the following two hands. She is still the shortest stack, but alive.
