Day 1a was a big one, both in terms of field and length of play. 143 entries turned out for the opening flight to the Main Event on Friday, putting the 1a prizes at almost $135k.
The game went into Level 18 before the final hand was played, after hand-for-hand play started late in Level 16. When the dust cleared, Trevor Patrick was sitting on the huge stack with 712k. His tablemate Mike Malm also bagged more than 700k, with Stephen Dauphinais (654k), Pam MacNaughton (548k), and Jarret Gray (483k) rounding out the top five – see below for a full list of 1a stacks.
Gray got into the top five counts right at the end of the night, as he finally burst the bubble with 25:04 to go in Level 18, sending Brayden Brown home on the bubble.
The second flight takes off at 1 PM on Saturday, and based on the 1a turnout, it could easily have 200 or more entries. As with 1a, players get 40k in chips to start, for 40-minute blind levels.
There are 9 levels of open entry, with the registration desk closing at 8:15 PM, after the dinner break. The Day will end when they get to 12.5% of the starting field, though as 1a showed, it could be a late one.
I’ll likely be a bit late to the game, but expect coverage to start sometime between 3 & 4 PM.
