  • Big Names Through After Day 1a at the Perla Poker Festival Main Event

    Perla Casino Poker Room

The dust has just settled after Day 1a in the Perla Poker Festival Main Event, and what a day it was. With a later start, 19:00 CET, players came into Perla Casino in Nova Gorica filled with energy, ready to take it to the tables and do their best to advance to Sunday’s Day 2 along with the survivors from the other three opening flights.

Players who got into the mix took advantage of the early bird discount with just a €300 buy-in level.

    Olivo, Zarić And More Through

A total of 123 entries were made during Day 1a to add €34,400 to the prize pool. The action ended after Level 13, which meant roughly seven hours of play. After the last hand was dealt, 55 players bagged their chips.

Some familiar names in the field were present, for example, Dragan Zarić. The Slovenian poker legend has delivered good poker results from live events worldwide since 2015, and now he’s chasing the Perla Poker Festival title. He’s given himself good prerequisites; with his 415,000 stack, he’s second in chips after Day 1a, only trailing Italian Davide Ceglia.

    Davor Bojovic and Erik Olivo.
    Davor Bojovic and Erik Olivo.

Naturally, Zarić has company from many compatriots on Day 2. Davor Bojovic and Erik Olivo both made it through Day 1a, and it felt somewhat special seeing them sitting next to each other on Table 18 for most of the day. Bojovic is one of the best MTT Slovenian players of all time, and Olivo could be referred to as a rising star in Slovenian poker.

Other names that made it through to Day 2 were poker mental coach Thais Dresch, president of the Slovenian Poker Association Zoran Špindler, and Sejdefa Hodžič, who ended 2024 by winning a big event in Zagreb.

    PokerPro Advances to Day 2

    Jason Glatzer

PokerPro’s Jason Glatzer and Žiga Babič both got into the mix and were hovering around 10 big blinds when the final break of the day took place. Glatzer managed to run his stack up to around 130,000 before settling to end the day at 98,000 for 49 big blinds, while Babič managed to hang on as well, but he will be left to spin up a short stack with 24,000 for 12 big blinds with blinds rolling back three levels to start Day 2 with blinds starting at 1,000/2,000 with a 2,000 big blind ante.

Day 1b Begins Friday at 7 PM

While the Day 1a survivors can take tomorrow off and get some proper rest, it’s time for Day 1b to commence. The second opening flight boasts a €360 buy-in, similar to Day 1c on Saturday. Players entering on Day 1d and on Day 2 will be required to pay the full price of €500, so there is still fantastic value to those entering on Friday’s Day 1b.

The tournament kicks off at 19:00, and just like today, 13 levels with 30-minute blind levels will be played before the survivors get to experience the best thing in poker—putting chips in a plastic bag.

In addition, the Perla Poker Festival will boast a well-structured €300 Omaha ETOP at 17:00, with 35-minute blind levels and nine levels of late registration.

The PokerPro will be back on the floor to cover the action of Day 1b of the Main Event. Follow Perla Poker Festival live blog here to witness the action unfold.

  • Play has Concluded for Day 1a

    Level 13: 2,000/4,000 (4,000)
    Entries: 50/123

That’s a wrap for Perla Poker Festival Main Event Day 1a. The remaining 50 players have now bagged their chips and will return to Day 2.

We’ll soon compile the chip counts and publish them in the next post.

  • A Classic Confrontation

    Level 13: 2,000/4,000 (4,000)
    Entries: 48/120

During the last level of the day, Mauro Monfera limped from UTG. Drago Rescic continued the trend, before small blind player Roman Gomboši raised to 27,000. Surprisingly enough, Andrea Brendan went all in from the big blind for around 90,000. It was folded to Gomboši who made the call after recieving a count.

    Andrea Brendan: AK
    Roman Gomboši: AQ

No dice for Gomboši on the 65932 board. He survived, but most of his chips went to Brendan.

    Andrea Brendan: 250,000
    Roman Gomboši: 69,000

  • Battle Of the Queens

    Level 12: 1,500/3,000 (3,000)
    Entries: 54/118

At Table 23, Niki Prela has gone all in for roughly 120,000 on a 6QJ7 board. There’s about 60,000 in the pot and the decision is on Davide Ceglia whether to make the call or not.

Prela seemed comfortable even making a little dance moves sitting down, whilst Ceglia faced a tough decison. Eventually, Ceglia was called clock on and when time ran out, his hand was automatically dead.

When folding, he showed his opponents a queen. Prela then revealed his Q8 as he scooped the pot. You could tell from Ceglia’s face that his kicker was better than an 8.

  • Prela and Dresch Still in the Mix

    Level 12: 1,500/3,000 (3,000)
    Entries: 60/117

    Thais Dresch and Niki Perla.
Thais Dresch (seat 4) and Niki Perla (Seat 5) during the Perla Poker Festival.

Level 12 began recently and we’re beginning to see more and more pre-flop shoves in the room.

Two very dangerous players who are still in the mix are Niki Prela and Thais Dresch, who are actually seated next to eachother at Table 23.

Prela’s been cashing steady in live poker events since 2021, and it’s evident the Italian came to Perla with his eyes on the trophy.

Dresch is a poker mental coach who came to Perla all the way from Brazil; we’re thrilled to see so many players coming from around the world to participate in the Perla Poker Festival!

  • Cricelli Eliminates Radovic

    Level 11: 1,000/2,000 (2,000)
    Entries: 62/117

We’ve reached a stage where a players busts out every other minute. Just a couple of minutes ago, we lost Andro Radovic from table 23.

Radovic raised to 4,000 from hi-jack and when action had folded to Francesco Cricelli in the big blind, he re-raised to 15,000. Radovic went all in for 49,000 and Cricelli called almost instantly.

    Andro Radovic: AQ
    Francesco Cricelli: AK

The board ran out 67J510 and Cricelli had just a smudge more than Radovic in his stack, meaning Radovic’s Day 1a adventure came to an end.

    Francesco Cricelli: 104,000
    Andro Radovic: 0

  • Babic Doubles Through Fear

    Level 11: 1,000/2,000 (2,000)
    Entries: 65/115

At Table 28, Giovanni Chiofalo limped from UTG. 2 seats behind him, Ciga Babic went all in for his last 19,000. It was folded back to Chiofalo who decided to call of Chiofalo’s shove.

    Ciga Babic: A6
    Giovanni Chiofalo: 109

Although a scary match-up, Babic managed to survive after the K2576 runout.

    Ciga Babic: 41,000
    Giovanni Chiofalo: 71,000

  • Second & Last Break For the Day; Here Are the Chip Counts

    Level: break
    Entries: 68/114

Players are on their second and last break for today. We took a sweep across the floor and identified some bigger stacks:

    Table-SeatPlayerChips
    22-5 Ivan Somma242,000
    23-8 Antonio Pugliese222,000
    14-4 Drago Rescic220,000
    25-2 Toni Batinjan205,000
    20-1 Bashkim Kryeziu200,000
  • …Or Maybe Aces Are Cracked?

    Level 10: 780/1,600 (1,600)
    Entries: 68/114

It was preflop when Alija Besirevic went all in for roughly 74,000 and got quickly called by Andrea Darduin.

    Alija Besirevic: 1010
    Andrea Darduin: AA

Presumeably, Darduin wasn’t pleased with the J10K69 runout as his aces were cracked. All the chips went the way of Besirevic and Darduin’s stack took an arrow to the knee.

    Alija Besirevic: 149,000
    Andrea Darduin: 63,000

  • Aces Not Cracked

    Davor Bojovič
    Davor Bojovič.

    Level 9: 700/1,400 (1,400)
    Entries: 72/114

During the last hand of Level 9, Veljko Glavičić opened to 3,500 from UTG+1. He was called solely by Davor Bojovič on the button, who’s one of Slovenias most successful MTT players ever.

The 2 players were treated with a 233 flop. Glavičić checked, Bojovič bet 3,000 and Glavičić called.

On turn 4, Glavičić checked again and Bojovič now sized up to 10,000. Glavičić now went all in for his remaining 26,400. Bojovič made the call.

    Glavičić: AA
    Bojovič: 99

River was a blank and the pot went the way of Glavičić.

    Glavičić: 71,000
    Bojovič: 55,000

  • The Glatzer Hand

    Jason Glatzer.
    Jason Glatzer (seat 2).

    Level 8: 600/1,200 (1,200)
    Entries: 72/107

PokerPro representant Jason Glatzer is now in Day 1a, seated at table 18. He’s given us a hand from his player perspective.

It was a limped pot and Glatzer looked down at AJ in the small blind. He joined the fun and the 4 participants were treated with a 359 flop. It was checked around and turn fell J. Glatzer and 2 other players checked to the fourth one who bet 6,600 into the 9,000 in the middle. Glatzer made the call and the other 2 players folded.

River was 7 and after a Glatzer-check, player X bet 11,000. Glatzer reviewed his options in his head. After a while, he said “I’m either really good or really not good” and made the call.

Sad news for him as player X showed J7 for a rivered two pair.

    Glatzer: 50,000

  • One Diamond Short

    Level 7: 500/1,000 (1,000)
    Entries: 78/105

We’re roughly halfway through Level 7 and we paid a visit to table 29. From UTG+1, Michael Toninello raised to 2,500 and got called by Roman Gomboši (small blind) and Giovanni De Minicis (big blind).

Gomboši and De Minicis both checked the K109 flop, prior to Toninello betting 2,500. Both players called and turn revealed the 6. Once again action was checked to Toninello who now threw out a bet of 6,200. Gomboši folded but De Minicis made the call.

8 fell on the river and both players checked.

    Toninello: A10
    De Minicis: 58

De Minicis didn’t hit his flush and thus, all the chips went to way of Toninello.

    Toninello: 42,000
    DeMinicis: 33,000

  • Selected Chip Counts at the Break

    Level: break
    Entries: 76/95

Level 5 is finished and the players are on a 15-minute break. Meanwhile, we did our best identifying some noteable stacks in the room:

    Table-SeatPlayerChips
    23-8 Antonio Pugliese230,000
    22-6 Tomi Vodnik189,000
    20-3 Elvis Kallashi167,000
    14-6 Giovanni Glessi150,000
    25-2 Toni Batinjan147,000
  • Schiano Wins Big

    Level 5: 300/600 (600)
    Entries: 79/95

We arrived to table 20 when to board read 2AJ4. Marko Pročec moved all in on the turn for roughly 18,000, getting called by both Cvetko Petrovčič and Luigi Schiano. The pot was brewing.

On river 8, Petrovčič went all in for his remaining 30,000 and Schiano couldn’t have made the call any faster.

    Petrovčič: AQ
    Schiano: AA

Thus, Schiano eliminated 2 players at once, increasing his stack.

    Schiano: 120,000
    Petrovčič: 0
    Pročec: 0

  • Table of Champions

    Level 4: 200/500 (500)
    Entries: 80/91

There are some recognizeable names in the field, and some of them are seated on table 18. For example, Matic Klarič and Ivan Siljeborg; Klarič won Perla Poker Festival in January 2024, while Siljeborg claimed the title in April; this means that the two most recent Perla Poker Festival winners are seated at the same table.

We did capture a hand at the table, however without any of the aformentioned players involved. It was Veljko Glavičić who called from early position, before Jernej Hrovat raised to 1,400. Vaccaro Antonino and Siljeborg called the raise and so did Glavičić.

The flop spelled out 57Q and it was checked to Siljeborg who bet 2,400. Glavičić and Antonino called, while Hrovat did not.

All three players checked the 4 turn, resulting in river 8 being revealed. Action was checked to Siljeborg who bet 7,000. The remaining players folded and the former champ improved his stack.

    Siljeborg: 95,000

  • Things Starting to Heat Up

    Level 3: 200/400 (400)
    Entries: 77/82

With the Blinds increasing, the pots naturally start becoming a bit bigger.

On table 23, Giorgio Silvestrin limped under the gun. Marco Bellomo raised to 1,500 from middle position and was called by Tiziano Fasan in the big blind as well as from Silvestrin.

On flop 8105, it was checked to Bellomo who bet 1,500. Fasan and Silvestrin both made the call.

It was again checked to Bellomo on the J turn. He bet 5,000 and was called by Fasan, prior to Silvestrin moving all in for roughly 40,000. Bellomo twisted and turned before eventually going all in himself for 32,000. Fasan folded and the players turned over their cards.

    Giorgio Silvestrin: J8
    Marco Bellomo: K9

Bellomo didn’t get the help he needed from the 4 river, meaning his first bullet in the Perla Poker Festival Main Event came to an end.

    Giorgio Silvestrin: 140,000
    Marco Bellomo: 0

  • Jacks Are No Good

    Level 2: 100/300 (300)
    Entries: 73/74

From the Cut-off, Ivan Utelija raised to 700 and was called by Giorgio Bembo (Small Blind) and Davide Ceglia (Big Blind).

The flop came 3106. Bembo bet 1,100 and after Ceglia folded, Utelija made the call.

Action repeated itself on the 8 turn as Utelija now called a 1,800 bet from Bembo. Both players checked the A river.

Bembo turned over JJ which wasn’t enough to beat Utelija’s 86.

    Giorgio Bembo: 58,000
    Ivan Utelija: 64,000

  • Pot Goes the Way of Vodnik

    Level 2: 100/300 (300)
    Entries: 51/51

From the Cut-off, Loris Brunelli raised too 600. It was folded to Toma Vodnik who defended his Big Blind.

On the flop 3210 Vodnik bet 1,500 and Brunelli made the call, revealing the 8 turn. Both player checked and river A completed the board. Vodnik bet 1,900 and Brunelli made the call.

Vodnik turned over Q10 which was enough to win the pot as Brunelli mucked his hand.

    Loris Brunelli: 63,000
    Toma Vodnik: 64,000

  • Familiar Faces as More Players Register

    Level 1: 100/200 (200)
    Entries: 46/46

More players have entered the tournament, and there are some familiar faces in the room, including Sejdefa Hodžić seated at Table 28. At the end of 2024, the Slovenian won the €100,000 GTD XMAS Main Event at Luckia Casino Zagreb. Will she be able to start 2025 in a similar fashion here at Perla?

  • It’s Time for Perla Poker Festival to Commence!

Perla Poker Festival 2025 Live Reporting PokerPro

Ladies and gentlemen, the day is finally here! Today, January 9, is the first day of the Perla Poker Festival. The atmosphere here at Perla Nova Gorica is electrifying, and we have five days of exciting poker action in front of us.

Today, play will start at 19:00 local time (CET). Day 1a of the Main Event is the sole dish on today’s poker menu and it will be a spicy one. The players who buy-in for the tournament today will do so at the lowest price, €300. As mentioned in our previous article, the buy-in will increase the later flight the player choose to participate in. Players can register for the Main Event until the end of level 3 on Day 2.

The main event is a re-entry tournament, in which players will get 60,000 chips. For today and the rest of the Day 1 flights, each level will be 30 minutes long. Play will end after Level 13 is concluded. The first level starts on blinds 100/200 with a 200 ante.

Day 1b will be played tomorrow, January 10, also starting at 19:00. The only difference from today’s flight is that the buy-in for 1b is €360.

Day 1c and 1d will both be played on the January 11. Day 1c kicks off at 13:00 with the same buy-in as 1b, whilst Day 1d starts 19:00 for the price of €500.

When the surviving players return to Day 2 on Sunday 12, the levels will be at 40 minutes length. After day 2 the survivors will rest and come back on monday, battling it out for the title.

Of course, PokerPro will cover each flight from start to finish. At the start of each day we will post a preview of what’s to come. We hope you’ll have as much enjoyment following our coverage as we have delivering it.

Best of luck to all participants in the Perla Poker Festival. See you at 19:00!

  • 14 Players Advanced From the Exciting Day 1b

Day 1b of the Perla Poker Festival Main Event has come to an end. The field of participants may not have been as big as Day 1a, but the quality of poker today was – from time to time – absolutely phenomenal. There’s no doubt about it: Perla Poker Festival attracts all the top poker players within a reasonable distance, and there’s a certain prestige within the tournament.

Let’s summarize Day 1b and see what were the highlights.

Barnabo – Big Stack After Big Show

During Day 1 b, many players displayed great poker skills and a fair share of charisma. One of the players who became familiar was Jacopo Barnabo. From being at risk of elimination—being all-in in the dark with 4 other players in the pot—he survived and built a great stack for day 2; in fact, he’s the one who accumulated the second most chips from Day 1b.

    Jacopo Barnabo
After winning a big pot with pocket kings, Jacopo Barnabo played the rush and partially bluffed his way to a big stack.

Of course, another hand from today is when Enrico Pezzotti’s aces were cracked within the last 30 minutes of the day. Most of his chips went to Simone Alati, but he still managed to bag several big blinds.

Day 1b had 42 entries in total, meaning €14,280 was collected and will go to the prize pool. 14 players advanced to Day 2 with Italian player Emilio Cimmaruta bagging the chip lead.

It didn’t take too long for Pezzotti to fold and when he did, Barnabo showed KQ as he stacked his new-won chips.

The flop was 6310; Pezzotti and Mariano folded to Barnabo’s all-in fairly quickly. De Toffoli thought for 2 minutes before he mucked.

    Bojan Jerman: 97

  • Day 1c Is Over – 95 Players Will Start Day 2

Time moves fast when you’re having fun, they say. The three Day 1-flights of the Perla Poker Festival Main Event passed by as fast as the speed of lightning, and we’re ready to enter Day 2 action tomorrow, January 12.

However, before we get to Day 2, let’s dissect the Day 1c live blog and see what went down at the Perla poker room today.

    Hašimovič Overcomes

From a live reporter’s perspective, it feels like I saw pocket aces 100 times today. Each hand seemed to be an all-in showdown, with one player having the goods. One that we particularly remember is, of course, when Pašan Hašimovič called Gianluca Lingeris’ shove on the flop, resulting in his aces getting cracked. However, Hašimovič kept his cool and bounced back quickly; he climbed back to the top of the rankings and secured the Day 1c chip lead.

    Pasan Hasimovic
    Pašan Hašimovič.

There are, of course, many memorable moments from Day 1c, one of them being Danilo Colomba channeling his inner Doyle Brunson and flopping the nut flush with 102. Colomba bagged 140,000 chips and we’ll see him again tomorrow.

Here you can see the top 5 stacks moving on from Day 1c:

    Playtime’s Over

Day 2 kicks off tomorrow, January 12, at 13:00, and players are now entering the more crucial part of the tournament. All in all, 95 players will enter Day 2 coming from the various Day 1 flights, but late registration is open until the end of Level 3 during Day 2. The buy-in during Day 2 is €500.

Day 2 will start on blinds 1,000/2,000 with a 2,000 ante. The level length will be 40 minutes instead of 30 as it was during the Day 1 flights. Day 2 will play down to the final table.

So far, €69,780 has been collected towards the prize pool, and a handful of entries are expected to be done during Day 2.

The PokerPro team is beyond excited to give you live updates from Day 2 of the Perla Poker Festival Main Event. We wish all players a good night’s rest, and we’ll see you in the Perla poker room tomorrow!

Heads-up play has been going on for about one hour, and it’s been a rollercoaster ride. Since a few hands ago, Davide Ceglia is now the chip leader after winning some semi-large pots here and there.

Ceglia limped and Dragan Zarić raised to 320,000. Ceglia called, and the players were treated with a J39 flop. Zarić bet 200,000 but was immediately raised to 500,000 from Ceglia.

Zarić called, and the dealer revealed the 8 turn. Zarić checked, and Ceglia now bet 900,000. Zarić called, and 7 fell on the river. Both players checked, and it was enough for Ceglia to show the Jto take down the pot.

Just before the break, the action was down to three players, with each player locking up at least a €8,000 payday after Simone Alati, who recently doubled up, lost his stack on a bad beat to Davide Ceglia.

Alati three-bet jammed for more than a dozen big blinds from the big blind and was called by Ceglia, who originally opened from under the gun.

    Simone Alati: JJ
    Davide Ceglia: AJ

Alati was safe on the 9107 flop with Ceglia’s ace still alive and also outs for a chop. The safety factor increased for Alati on the 2 turn. However, that all changed when the brutal A river completed the board to end the start of the final table chip leader Alati’s run in fourth place.

There was no significant action to report during Level 27. However, the first double-up at the final table occurred during the first half of Level 28 as follows:

Davide Ceglia was down to under 10 big blinds when he jammed his stack of 720,000 from under the gun. Simone Alati paused from the big blind before finding a call. The hands were tabled and, despite Ceglia was flipping for his tournament life, perhaps the best-case scenario once called.

    Davide Ceglia: 109
    Simone Alati: 66

Ceglia pulled ahead after his nine connected on the flop and won the hand with a full house to double his stack instead of hitting the rail after the 58995 ran out on the board.
