Blyth Patterson limped from early position, and was faced with a raise to 15,000 from David Carson from the cutoff. While action was on Kieran Fleming on the button, Patterson moved all-in out of turn for 44,000.
The remaining players folded, and it was reported that Carson edged a chip forward, but perhaps not over the line, and tabled 9♣9♥.
Patterson had asked if Carson had called, who confirmed he had, before he tabled K♦10♥.
The Q♥8♣7♣ flop and A♣ turn kept Carson in front, and at this point Patterson accused Carson of an angle, and suggested Carson’s head should be dead as he had not put calling chips in, and his actions were an open-fold.
The 8♣ river sent Carson the pot and Patterson to the rail.
Carson was perplexed and offended by the accusation, stating his intentions were obvious, and if anyone was angling, it was Patterson, attempting to alter the outcome of a hand he had lost.
The floor was called, and the dealer confirmed he believed Carson’s actions amounted to a call.
The floor confirmed there were no circumstances in which Carson’s hand could be declared dead in any event, where it was simply tabled, there was no verbal declaration of fold, and it had not sent to the muck.
Patterson took his leave, but returned shortly after, and the players continued to debate who was the angle-shooter for a period before Patterson left the playing area.
