Veciana Leads Final 18 in PartyPoker Tour Castellón Main Event Final as Moschakis Wins Side Event and Pauceanu Leads Mystery Bounty

A frantic day of poker action at Orenes Gran Casino on October 11 saw a field of 92 players in Day 2 of the €500 Main Event reduced to the final 18, with Pau Veciana in pole position for the final day, while Rares Pauceanu topped 41 qualifiers from two flights of the €250 Mystery Bounty.

In addition, Georgios Moschakis took the only trophy awarded, as he took the spoils in the €60 poker.pro Party Madness Crazy Pineapple Bounty.

Veciana Leads Main Event as Staples and Carter in the Mix

A total of 92 players returned for Day 2 of the Main Event, all with their sights fixed on the €30,000 first-place prize, and they were led by Sergio Alvez of Spain and Heribert Ipfelkofer of Germany, with 55 spots set to secure a minimum cash of €1,000.

The action was fast and furious as players quickly fell by the wayside, including Florian Schultheis, who ran into the full house of Veciana early.

Thr bubble arrived halfway through the second session, and it stretched for over an hour, with there being only one player at risk during that timeframe. Chip leader Veciana took full advantage of his position, increasing his stack considerably by applying constant pressure to opponents.

Eventually, Saul Laguillo was forced all-in from the big blind, and woke up with trash to leave empty-handed.

From there short-stacks hit the rail in quick succession, including Manuel Garcia and Siddarth Sudunagunta, while Alvez exited in 42nd.

Alvez was joined on the sidelines shortly after by PartyPoker Tour team member Niall Farrell, and the runs of fellow Brits Robbie Bull, Matthew Gray and James Smith all ended before the final three tables.

PartyPoker Tour team member Barry Carter scored a big double to move towards the top of the counts, but his literary partner in crime Dara O’Kearney came unstuck shortly after. Stefan Stroffek picked up aces to bust Alejandro Valdes, before Ian SImpson picked up a crucial late double.

Jonathan Rees finished start of day chip leader Ipfelkofer, and PartyPoker Tour team member Barny Boatman was the last player to fall when he got unlucky against Dorian Dizy.

As a result, 18 players will return to Orenes Gran Casino at 3 p.m. on October 11 for the final day, with Veciana in pole position to take the trophy and €30,000 first-place prize.

Veciana leads from fellow countrymen Jose Maria Perez (1,725,000) and Dorian Dizy (1,590,000), while Carter (1,345,000) and fellow PartyPoker Tour team member Matt Staples (1,260,000) are firmly in the mix, with Staples aiming for his second final table of the festival after finishing fifth in the Mini Main Event.
