Julius Roque Defeats Teo Sanchez in a Single PLO Hand
2025 Summer SS E8 Winner Julius Roque with family Teo Sanchez, Runner Up in E8 It was a night for coolers to finish things off. After Adam Cygman spiked two pair on the river with the worst ace in Event #3, and Event #7 ended dramatically with aces over kings for Guneet Singh, the NLH/PLO Mix game went from 5 to 1 in just a few hands, ending with a massive set-over-set cooler that ran out to a straight for Julius Roque.
Mike Flanagan was the chip leader 5 ways, and he sent Tyler Hurman home in 5th place with ace-king over ace-ten. Victor Ma busted a couple of hands later, notching his second cash of the day after a final table finish in Event #3.
Roque then found a huge cooler against Flanagan with a slightly smaller stack when Roque flopped two pair and Flanagan turned a worse two pair. The money went in on the river, and Flanagan was left on fumes while Roque was the new leader with nearly half the chips in play.
Flanagan’s fumes burned off on the next, which was the final hand of the two-card Level 21. They moved to four-card poker for heads-up between Roque and Teo Sanchez, who was runner-up earlier in the week in the PLO Double Board Bomb Pot, but they only got to play a single hand of PLO.
Both players flopped a set and the money went in. Roque was also open-ended to king-high or Broadway, and after a bricky turn, the river hit the bottom end of Roque’s straight draw.
This was Roque’s fourth win in an NLH/PLO mix tournament since Aug 2023 here at Deerfoot Inn & Casino, including a Circuit ring in the mix from May 2024. “I am very lucky,” he said after the game when asked about the multiple wins. He certainly had a sun-run at the end of this one tonight, but you don’t win four of these kinds of events in two years without at least a passing level of skill in the games.

Mike Flanagan Out in 3rd Place for $3,496
Level: 21 (15000/25000/25000 NLH) Entries: 2/92 Prizes: $34,960 It was a huge setup for Julius Roque over Mike Flanagan. I arrived at the table just in time to see the final carnage as Flanaganbet 300k on the river on a board of 9♦6♣Q♠3♠9♠ and then snapped it off when Roque shoved.
Roque was at risk, but he’d flopped two pair with nine-six of hearts against Flanagan’s turned two pair with nine-three of clubs. That doubled Roque to a huge lead and left Flanagan on fumes, which he burned off on the very next hand.
-
Victor Ma Out in 4th Place for $3,496
Level: 21 (15000/25000/25000) Entries: 3/92 Prizes: $34,960 There are three left in the Mix game after Victor Ma picked up his second cash of the day. He was 8th in Event #3 earlier tonight, jumped into this one late, and bagged 4th place here.
-
Tyler Hurman Out in 5th Place for $2,447
Level: 21 (15000/25000/25000 NLH) Entries: 4/92 Prizes: $34,960 Victor Ma called a “Real hand alert” when Tyler Hurman got ace-ten suited in against the ace-king of Mike Flanagan. The ace-king held and Hurman was out in 5th place.
-
Down to 5
Level: 20 (10000/20000/20000 PLO) Entries: 5/92 Prizes: $34,960 They are down to 5 in the Mix game after the exit of Kalil Geha. He reqested no picture, and as I’m still watching the HU match in Event #7, I didn’t get any of the action. Geha pocketed $1,748 for 6th place.
-
Six Left in the Mix
Level: 20 (10000/20000/20000 PLO) Entries: 6/92 Prizes: $34,960 Kang Shariq was the most recent bust in the Mix game, taking 7th place for $1,573. I’m still watching the heads-up match in the 1Day Deepstack, so I haven’t seen any action in this game.
-
Six of Seven Remaining Players
Level: 19 (8000/16000/16000 NLH) Entries: 7/92 Prizes: $34,960 One player requested their picture not be taken, but here’s a look at the other 6 players still alive in the NLH/PLO mix. Skyler York and Nicholas Lee have already cashed out for 9th and 8th places, respectively. I’m still watching the endgame of the 1Day Deepstack game, so I’m not watching this one very closely.
-
In the Money
Level: 17 (5000/10000/10000 NLH) Entries: 9/92 Prizes: $34,960 The NLH/PLO game is now in the money with 9 players left. The game saw 92 entries for prizes of almost $35k, and they just burst the bubble. I’ll grab names and photos shortly, but it’s a bit of a murderer’s row over there from what I saw when I walked by a minute ago. Among the players in the money now are Nicolas Lee, Teo Sanchez, and Skyler York, who were three-way at the end in the Double Board Bomb Pot game, as well as Victor Ma, who jumped in after final tabling the Deepstack today, Julius Roque, who has won a few of these two-card/four-card mixes in recent years, and Tyler Hurman.
-
65 Entries in Level 7
Level: 7 (500/1000/1000) Entries: 51/65 Prizes: $24,700 The NLH/PLO Mix is in Level 7 with the field at 65 entries. That puts the prizes at almost $25k with a bit less than 2 hours to enter.

NLH/PLO Mix on the Side for Sunday
2025 Summer Super Stack – Event #8: $450 NLH/PLO ($400 + $50)
Date: Aug 3, 4 PM Blinds: 25 Minutes Starting Stack: 25k Late Entry: 10 Levels (~8:40 PM) It’s a busy Sunday at the Summer Super Stack here at Deerfoot Inn & Casino. While Day 2 of Event #3, and the 1Day version of that same game are playing out, a third game will also be running on the side, the NLH/PLO Mix.
Players will switch between two cards and four every blind level, with the action starting with 2 cards in the odd levels and four cards in the even levels. The action gets going at 4 PM, and they’ll play to a winner tonight. There are 10 levels of late entry, putting the last chance to enter at about 8:40 PM.
I’m not sure how much attention this game will get. It’s my third priority on Sunday, behind Events #3 and #7, but this game often goes quite late, so it may still be running when those two finish. I’ll do my best to get results and winner’s photos at least on this one, but beware that this game may well get very limited coverage.
