Heads up was a very quick affair, lasting just a couple of hands. The final money went in when Kelly Gall flopped a pair of tens with 109, but Ed Gaetz flopped top pair with K2. Gaetz hit two pair on the turn of he K10326 board, and that was all he needed to take it down.

    Megastack Final Hand

Gall picked up $23,050 for 2nd, while Gaetz took $37,120 and the Cup (courtesy of Bill Thomson & Weston Pring) for the win.

    Entries:2/346
    Prizes:$164,350
    Local Time:9:10 PM
    Thomas Taylor

Thomas Taylor got the last of his chips in with a small ace, but he ran into aces and couldn’t get there. Taylor earned $15,650 for 3rd tonight, and he immediately jumped into the PLO Bounty game.

  • Jae Lee Out in 4th Place for $12,370

    Level:28 (40000/80000/80000)
    Entries:3/346
    Prizes:$164,350
    Local Time:8:40 PM
    Jae Lee

Thomas Taylor raised the button to 160k, then snap-called when Jae Lee shoved his big blind. Taylor was on AQ for a race against pocket sevens. Taylor hit his ace on the flop of AK45K and that was all he needed to send Lee to the rail.

After the hand, Ed Gaetz, who folded to Lee’s shove, showed pocket fives, which would have hit a set and scooped both players out as Gaetz has the big stack right now.

  • Dave S Out in 5th Place for

    Level:27 (40000/80000/80000)
    Entries:4/346

    Local Time:8:30 PM

They are down to 4 left in the Megastack after Dave S hit the rail for 5th place. I missed the action while I was in the washroom, but Dave was the short stack with barely 10 bigs at the last count.

    Entries:5/346
    Prizes:$164,350

Thiomas Taylor raised the button to 120k, and Jae Lee called from the big blind. They checked it down through the board of [invalid notations] for the rivered two pair.

  • Dave S Doubles Through Taylor

    Level:26 (30000/60000/60000)
    Entries:5/346
    Prizes:$164,350
    Local Time:7:10

I picked up the action on the turn with the board reading 31086. Taylor was on the button and had a bet of 200k in front of him, while Dave S was deep in the tank. He checked the payout differential between 5th and 4th before he shoved.

Taylor snapped it off with a covering stack, and was ahead with pocket aces against K10, but in addition to trip and two pair outs, Dave was drawing to the spades. 2 on the river gave Dave what he needed to double up.

  • Gaetz Has the Best Ace

    Level:25 (25000/50000/50000)
    Entries:5/346
    Prizes:$164,350
    Local Time:6:55 PM

Thomas Taylor opened the cutoff to 110k, and Kelly Gall called from the button, as did Ed Gaetz from the big blind. They all checked the 6A9 flop, but Gaetz led for 200k on the 2 turn.

Taylor was the only caller to the 3 river and, after a check from Gaetz, he fired 200k. Gaetz called quickly, showing ace-ten for the win after Talor showed ace-four.

  • Taylor Flops the Lead

    Level:25 (25000/50000/50000)
    Entries:5/346
    Prizes:$164,350
    Local Time:6:50 PM

Thomas Taylor opened to 110k from the button, then called when big blind Jae Lee raised to 270k. Lee led for 120k on the 8KA flop and Taylor called. They checked it down through the 53 runout, and Taylor’s K10 was ahead of the pocket queens for Lee.

Lee was left with just over 300k after the hand.

The game is 6-handed now after Darcy Spilchen lost his short stack for 7th place, worth $5,795.

  • Rafael Wood Out in 8th Place for $4,315

    Level:24 (20000/40000/40000)
    Entries:7/346
    Prizes:$164,350
    Local Time:6:15 PM
    Rafael Wood

It folded to Rafael Wood in the small blind, and he shoved 340k. Thomas Taylor asked for a count from the big blind, then called it off with more.

    Thomas Taylor: J10
    Rafael Wood: A9

Wood flopped an ace, but there was also a king, giving Taylor a gutshot. He bricked the turn, but when the runout finished A3KKQ, the river sent Taylor to Broadway and Wood to the cage for 8th place money.

  • Matthew Ouellette Out in 9th Place for $3,655

    Entries:26/346
    Prizes:$164, 350
    Local Time:2:10 PM

The Day 2 field for the Megastack game is down to 26 players left on the final three tables. Just over 10 minutes remain in Level 19, and they’ll play one more level following this one before the first break of the day.

  • Matt Ouellette Leads Day 2 of the Megastack

    Date:Day 2: Apr 17, 1 PM
    Blinds:40 Minutes
    Entries:34/346
    Prizes:$164,350
    Chip Leader:Matthew Ouellette (881k)

There aren’t quite as many players returning for Day 2 as expected, with a double knockout on the final hand of Day 1b. That meant only 22 bags emerged from Day 1b, adding to the 12 qualifiers that made it through Day 1a.

The final field for this one was a whopping 346 entries, for prizes of almost $165k. That prize pool is mostly down to more than $100k from 228 entries for the second flight. I have removed the prize pool info from the Payouts tab until Friday, as the previous payouts will need to be adjusted a bit. I’ll re-enter the new payouts on Friday, but I don’t expect the top spot of ~$37k to change that much, with any movement towards the upside.

Matthew Ouellette is the big stack to start Day 2. He bagged almost 900k on Day 1a, and was more than 100k ahead of 1b’s Thomas Taylor and Ed Gaetz.

Blinds remain at 40 minutes for the entire game, and the Day 2 action starts with 38 minutes remaining in Level 18 (5k/10k/10k). There are five players returning with stacks of 10 big blinds or less, so they’ll be looking for early doubles, most likely.

Thomas Taylor ended the day with the biggest bag from Day 1b, but it wasn’t by much. He bagged up 749k. but across the room, Ed Gaetz (who was runner-up in the Team event with his partner Craig Golemblaski) was right on his heels with 743k. Brendan Wolovick & Kelly Gall also finished the day wth more than half a million, while Dave S was just under that threshold.

Stay tuned for the Day 2 opening post with full seat assignments for the returning 34 players.

    Prizes:$108,300 (Combined: $164,350)
    Local Time:1:25 AM

Day 1b is over, but there is one fewer bag than expected, as there was a double knockout on the final hand. That means the posted prizes are likely a bit off, but I’ll correct them on Friday when I see the new payouts based on 34 Day 2 players instead of 35.

Stay tuned for the Day 1b chip counts coming in about 30-45 minutes, and the Day 2 post with full seat assignments to follow after that.

Among the players alive and fighting for a bag are Himan Mohamadi, Mal Hagan, Amir Khan, George Yang, Denis Mujcin, Benny Sarnelli, Jack Dick, James Cruickshank, Curits Singleton, Dave S, Jae Lee, Keegan Oliver, Thomas Taylor, Doug Lee, Alex Liu, Wayne Hoffert, Regan Duong, Eric Wasylenko, Kim Pham, Julius Roque, Colten Yamagishi, Sebastain Crema, Jerry Nelner, and Kelly Gall.

  • 45 Players Remain

    Level:13 (1500/3000/3000)
    Entries:45/228 (57/346 combined)
    Prizes:$108,300 (Combined: $164,350)
    Local Time:10:05 PM

Level 13 is nearly complete, and the 1b field is down to the final five tables, with 45 players remaining. They need to play through 22 more players before the bags come out, and Day 1a played well into Level 19 before they finished for the night. It seems likely today’s flight will end earlier, but that remains to be seen.

  • Entries Closed on Massive Day 1b

    Level:13 (1500/3000/3000)
    Entries:59/228 (71/346 combined)
    Prizes:$108,300 (Combined: $164,350)
    Local Time:9:30 PM

Day 1b blew past all expectations, with a whopping 228 entries for the final flight. That put the two-day total at 346, for combined prizes of almost $165k.

With 228 on the board today, that means 23 players will move on to Day 2 from today’s flight. They will join 12 players already waiting from Day 1a for 35 players returning. I haven’t seen the Day 2 prizes yet, but I’m expecting a first-place prize of $35k or more when the prizes do get posted.

  • Nearing $160k in Combined Prizes

    Level:12 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:75/217 (87/335 combined)
    Prizes:$103,075 (Combined: $159,125)
    Local Time:8:55 PM

Just over 30 minutes remain in entries for the Megastack, and the Day 1b field is up to 217 entries. That puts the combined field at 335, for prizes just shy of $160k, with more than $100k of that coming from 1b alone.

  • 1b Crosses the $100k Threshold

    Level:12 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:74/211 (86/329 combined)
    Prizes:$100,225 (Combined: $156,275)
    Local Time:8:30 PM

About an hour remains in entries for Day 1b of the Megastack as Level 11 ticks down to the end. The 1b field is now at 211, which pushes the 1b prizes over $100k, and the combined prizes to more than $156k.

  • Nearing $100k in 1b Prizes

    Level:11 (1000/2000/2000)
    Entries:73/208 (85/326 combined)
    Prizes:$98,800 (Combined: $154,850)
    Local Time:8:15 PM

About 20 minutes remain in Level 11, and Level 12 is the final level to enter this game. That puts the final chance to enter about 75 minutes away, and right now, the 1b field is just 3 entries shy of $100k in prizes for today’s flight alone.

  • More than $150k in Prizes

    Level:10 (800/1600/1600)
    Entries:82/199 (94/317 combined)
    Prizes:$94,525 (Combined: $150,575)
    Local Time:7:40 PM

Just under 15 minutes remain in Level 10, and the combined prizes just pushed over $150k. The 1b field is 1 entry shy of 200, with just under two hours to go in the registration period. The field today needs just 12 more entries for $100k in prizes for 1b alone.

  • Final Three Levels of Entry

    Level:10 (800/1600/1600)
    Entries:81/192 (93/310 combined)
    Prizes:$91,200 (Combined: $147,250)
    Local Time:7:20 PM

Dinner is over, and the Megastack players are into the final three levels of open entry. Just over 2 hours remain until the registration desk closes for good on this game, so there’s still plenty of time to hit 200 entries for today’s flight.

  • 310 Total Entries on Dinner

    Level:9 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:81/192 (93/310 combined)
    Prizes:$91,200 (Combined: $147,250)
    Local Time:6:30 PM

The 1b players are on their dinner break with the conclusion of Level 9, and the combined field is now at 310 entries, for prizes of $147,250. The game needs just 6 more entries to hit $150k in combined prizes, and it seems like a lock that will happen shortly after they return from dinner. Right now, there are about 3 hours left to enter the Megastack game.

  • 300 Combined Entries

    Level:8 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:100/182 (112/300 combined)
    Prizes:$86,450 (Combined: $142,500)
    Local Time:5:40 PM

Just under 10 minutes remain in Level 8, and th 1b field just hit 182. That was the magic number needed for a combined field of 300, but with just shy of four hours left to enter today’s flight, it looks like this game will go even bigger.

The combined prizes are now more than $142k, and today’s flight only needs another 16 entries to push the prizes over $150k. 18 more entries today will put the 1b field over 200.

  • 18 Away from 300 Combined

    Level:7 (400/800/800)
    Entries:105/164 (117/282 combined)
    Prizes:$77,900 (Combined: $133,950)
    Local Time:5:00 PM

With about 5 minutes to play in Level 7, the 1b field is up to 164 entries, for 282 combined across both starting flights. That puts the combined prizes at $134k, with about 4.5 hours still left in entries. Mal Hagan, Eric Wasylenko, Jerry Nelner, Dave S, Regan Duong, Chris Clisby, and Daniel Lefebvre are among the players in action today.

  • Almost 160 1b Entries

    Level:7 (400/800/800)
    Entries:102/158 (114/276 combined)
    Prizes:$75,050 (Combined: $131,100)
    Local Time:4:45 PM

The 1b field is nearing 160 entries now, and a final combined field of 300+ is looking more and more likely as the numbers increase. At this point, they only need 24 more entries in the next 4.5 hours to hit that number, and given the pace to this point, that is looking more and more like a lock.

  • Nearly $125k in Prizes

    Level:6 (300/600/600)
    Entries:98/144 (110/262 combined)
    Prizes:$68,400 (Combined: $124,450)
    Local Time:4:15 PM

Level 6 has just ended, and the 1b players are out for their second break of the day. The field is at 144 entries for the second flight, with 262 across the two starting days now for combined prizes of $124,450.

More than 5 hours remain in entries, and with this being the final chance to bag a Day 2 stack, I expect the rebuys to be fairly brisk right up until the end of registration at 9:30 tonight, so a combined final field of 300 is looking more possible with every new entry. At this point, they only need 38 more entries to hit that mark.

  • More than 130 Entries for 1b

    Level:6 (300/600/600)
    Entries:100/131 (112/249 combined)
    Prizes:$62,225 (Combined: $118,275)
    Local Time:3:45 PM

The combined prizes are nearing $120k, with about 30 minutes to play in Level 6. The 1b field is already over 130 entries, for a combined total of 249.

150 entries for today’s flight looks like a lock, and with the current pace, it looks like it could go even bigger than that. The field today would need to hit 182 entries for the combined field to make it to 300, and while that might be a bit optimistic, it’s absolutely not out of the question. If it goes that big, it would mean prizes of nearly $150k.

  • $115k in Prizes

    Level:5 (300/500/500)
    Entries:103/124 (115/242 combined)
    Prizes:$58,900 (Combined: $114,950)
    Local Time:3:25 PM

10 minutes remain in Level 5, with the 1b field now at 124 entries. That’s already better than the total for Day 1a, and puts the two-day field at close to 250 entries, for combined prizes of just shy of $115k.

Willie Hernandez, John Sclaise, Alexandre Fortin, Bill Thomson, Alex Liu, Jacqueline Ray, George Yang, Phillip Clingo, and Homan Mohamadi are among the players in action for Day 1b.

  • More than $100k in Prizes in Level 4

    Level:4 (200/400/400)
    Entries:101/107 (113/225 combined)
    Prizes:$50,825 (Combined: $106,875)
    Local Time:2:40 PM

Level 4 has about 10 minutes to play, and the Day 1b field has already capped 100 entries. That puts the 1b prizes over $50k, for a combined total of 225 entries and prizes of more than $105k.

With this pace, a field today of 150 or more seems like a good bet, and if they make it that big, it will mean a prize pool of more than $127k.

  • Second Flight to the Mega Day 2 Starts at Noon

The second flight to the $560 Megastack runs on Thursday at noon. As a redo of Day 1a, players sit down with 30k in chips, and blinds are 40 minutes long.

Entries are open for 12 levels, with the desk expected to shut down at around 9:30 PM. The game will play until only 10% of the field remains, and Day 1a took almost 19 full levels to get there, finishing later than 2:30 AM.

When the dust settled on the opening flight, Edmonton’s Matthew Ouellette led the way with almost 900k in his bag, Graham Lupton also bagged more than half a million, with 620k.

    D1a Chip Leader Matthew Ouellette

Day 1a was a bit of a marathon, playing well into Level 19 before they got down to the final 10% of the field. That included 12 hands of hand-for-hand play during Level 19, with the game finally finishing a bit after 2:30 AM.

Edmonton’s Matthew Ouellette bagged the biggest stack from the opening flight, which drew 118 entries for prizes of $56k. He stacked up 881k at the end of the night, more than 250k more than second-place, Graham Lupton, with 620k. They are the only players above half a million, but Weston Pring came close with 587k for 3rd.

    Entries:12/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:2:30 AM

The bags are out now with 12 players left. I’m following the PLO game heads up right now, but I’ll get the Day 1a chip counts entered and posted once that game finishes. It looked like Matthew Ouellette bagged the biggest stack tonight, but I’ll confirm that when I actually go through the slips.

    Entries:13/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:2:00 AM

The clock is now paused with the action on the bubble to the end of the night. There are 13 players left, and Matthew Ouellette is the chip leader with more than 700k in front of him, but Graham Lupton isn’t far behind, playing about 600k.

They’ll take two minutes off the clock manually for each hand played until the next elimination brings out the bags.

  • Two Off the Bags

    Level:19 (6000/12000/12000)
    Entries:14/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:1:45 AM

As Level 19 begins, Day 1a is down to 14 remaining. That puts them two away from the bags.

  • Still 15 Left

    Level:18 (5000/10000/10000)
    Entries:15/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:1:35 AM

About 10 minutes remain in Level 18, with the field still stuck on 15 players left. That still leaves them three off the bags, so it looks like Day 1a will play into Level 19.

  • 3 Off the Bags

    Level:18 (5000/10000/10000)
    Entries:15/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:1:15 AM

They are now three off the bags in Day 1a of the Megastack with 15 players left. Mohsen Shafazideh was the most recent player to head to the exits to get it to 15.

  • 16 Remain

    Level:17 (4000/8000/8000)
    Entries:16/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:12:55 AM

Day 1a of the Megastack was stalled on 18 players for more than a level, but that dam finally burst after Debi Loomer shoved the flop with a diamond draw and bricked it, sending her stack to Jordan Banfield. Another player followed her to the rail shortly after, bringing them down to 16 remaining, four off the bags.

  • Final Two Tables, 6 Off the Money

    Level:16 (3000/6000/6000)
    Entries:18/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:12:15 AM

Day 1a of the Megastack is down to the final two tables now, with 18 players remaining. That puts them 6 eliminations off the bags with about 5 minutes to play in Level 16.

  • 9 Off the Bags

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:21/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:11:30 PM

Level 15 has just ended, and the Day 1a field is down to 21. That puts them 9 off the bags, so there’s still a fair bit of poker to play when they return from the break, and it still looks like today will last well into Level 17 or 18.

  • Ouellette Leads Final 24

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:24/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:11:20 PM

It looks like Matthew Ouellette is the chip leader at the moment, with a bit more than 300k in front of him. Mohsen Shafazideh looks to be playing just under 300k.

  • 25 Remain

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:25/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:11:05 PM

Day 1a of the Megastack is down to 25 players, putting them 13 off the bags for tonight. 25 minutes remain in Level 15, with another break scheduled following this level. At the current pace, it looks like they’ll be playing well into Level 17 or 18 before the bags come out.

  • Final Three Tables

    Level:14 (2000/4000/4000)
    Entries:27/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:10:20 PM

The Megastack field is down to the final three tables now, with 27 players left. That puts them 15 off the bags with just under 30 minutes to play in Level 14. It looks like Jordan Banfield is the current leader, playing about 300k right now.

  • Down to 29

    Level:14 (2000/4000/4000)
    Entries:29/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:10:15 PM

They are down to 29 players remaining in Day 1a of the Megastack, with 30 minutes to play in Level 14. That puts them 17 eliminations off the bags, so there are still at least a couple of hours of poker left before the day ends.

  • Final Four Tables

    Level:13 (1500/3000/3000)
    Entries:36/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:10:00 PM

The Megastack Day 1a is down to 36 players on the final four tables, with about 10 minutes to play in Level 13. That puts them 24 players away from the money.

  • 12 Bags Expected to End the Night

    Level:13 (1500/3000/3000)
    Entries:42/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:9:35 PM

Entries are now closed for the opening flight to the Megastack Day 2, and the final number looks to be 118 entries, for just over $56k in prizes. That means that 12 players will survive the day, and they won’t stop playing until they hit that number.

  • Nearly $55k in Prizes

    Level:12 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:54/115
    Prizes:$54,625
    Local Time:8:50 PM

20 minutes remain in Level 12, with entries set to close at the end of the break following this level. The field is now at 115 entries for prizes of just shy of $55k, and entries will be closed in just over 30 minutes.

Ramaz Haymour, Jason Law, Ivanna Yatsiuk, Fred Werezak, Eric Wasylenko, Denis Mujcin, Debi Loomer, Matthew Ouellette, Jordan Banfield, Aidan Klingbeil, Deven Lane, Weston Pring, Gord Chester, Jacqueline Ray, Mohsen Shafazideh, David Ballantine, Garry Chan, Alex Liu, and Phillip Clingo are among the players still alive.

  • 110 Entries

    Level:11 (1000/2000/2000)
    Entries:56/110
    Prizes:$52,250
    Local Time:8:10 PM

Level 11 is about half complete, and the field for Day 1a of the Megastack is up to 110 entries. That puts more than $52k into the prizes, with more than an hour left to get into this opening flight.

  • More than $50k in Prizes

    Level:10 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:54/108
    Prizes:$51,300
    Local Time:7:50 PM

Five minutes remain in Level 10, with two more levels of open entry to follow this one. The field is now at 108 entries for prizes of more than $51k from this opening flight, but the final total will likely be between 110 and 12 entries.

  • Final Three Levels of Entry

    Level:10 (800/1600/1600)
    Entries:64/103
    Prizes:$48,925
    Local Time:7:15 PM

The Megastack players are back in their seats following the dinner break, and they are playing the final three levels with entries open. The field is at 103 entries for prizes just shy of $50k, and it still looks like a good bet that the field will top out between 110 & 120 entries today.

  • More than 100 Entries at Dinner

    Level:9 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:63/101
    Prizes:$47,975
    Local Time:6:45 PM

The Megastack players are on their dinner break, and there are three more levels of entry when they return for Level 10 in about 30 minutes. The field is now over 100 entries, with the prize pool just a few entries shy of $50k. With more than 2 hours of entry remaining, I expect the final field for this flight to end somewhere between 110 & 120 entries.

  • Nearing 100 Entries

    Level:9 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:63/97
    Prizes:$46,075
    Local Time:5:55 PM

The Megastack field is just shy of 100 entries now, for prizes of more than $46k. Level 9 has just begun, and they’ll take their dinner break following this level. When they return from dinner, there are still three levels of poker with open entries, so it seems like a good bet that this flight will leave 100 entries in the dust.

  • Up to 90 Entries

    Level:8 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:63/90
    Prizes:$42,750
    Local Time:5:25 PM

The Megastack field is now at 90 entries, for prizes of $42,750. There are now 4 hours left in the entry period for this flight, so a field of more than 100 is still looking good.

  • Nearly $40k in Prizes

    Level:7 (400/800/800)
    Entries:63/84
    Prizes:$39,900
    Local Time:5:05 PM

Just over 5 minutes remain in Level 7, and the field is now at 84 entries. That puts the prizes just shy of $40k, with that threshold to be crossed with the next entry. There are still more than 4 hours left to enter today’s first flight, so the 100-entry threshold still looks like a good bet.

  • 80 Entries

    Level:7 (400/800/800)
    Entries:63/80
    Prizes:$38,000
    Local Time:4:35 PM

Level 7 has about 30 minutes to play, with the field now at 80 entries. That puts the prizes at exactly $38k, but there are still a bit less than 5 hours to enter, so those numbers will still increase significantly before it all closes.

They do it all again tomorrow for Day 1b, with the top 10% from both flights returning for Friday’s Day 2.

The field for the Megastack is nearing 80 entries now, with prizes of more than $35k. There are still about 5.5 hours left to enter today’s flight, so 100+ seems like a very good bet at this point.

  • Nearly 70 Entries

    Level:5 (300/500/500)
    Entries:58/67
    Prizes:$31,825
    Local Time:3:20 PM

The Megastack prizes are over $30k, with about 15 minutes to play in Level 5. The field is at 67 entries now, but there are still more than 6 hours to enter this opening flight, so a field for 100 or more for Day 1a seems reasonably likely at this point.

  • Megastack Starts on Wednesday

    Date:Day 1a: Apr 15, 12 Noon
    Blinds:40 Minutes
    Starting Stack:30k
    Late Entry:12 Levels (~9:30 PM)
Day 1 Ends:10% of the Field; All Players on Day 2 are in the Money

The second of three multi-day games kicks off on Wednesday with Day 1a of the Megastack. For $560, players get 30k in chips, with 40-minute levels throughout the game.

Entries are open for 12 levels of poker on each starting day. Including breaks, that should put the end of entries at about 9:30 PM for both starting flights.

Once entries are closed, they’ll play down to 10% of the starting field before Day 1 ends, and all players who make Day 2 are guaranteed a payout. However, note that if there are multiple busts on the final hand of Day 1, such that fewer than 10% of players survive, the Day 1 busts will not be part of the payouts; Players MUST bag chips for Day 2 to get a piece of the prizes.

Last Spring, Michael Baldwin was on top of a three-way chop in this game. He split the top prizes with Tony Ma & JJ Johnstone over a field of 280 for $133k in prizes. Meanwhile, the Summer version of this game drew 410 entries for prizes of $194,740. Jerry Li took the win after a three-way chop, including Eric Wasylenko & Zhi Jiang.

  • Matt Ouellette Stacks Biggest on Day 1a

    Level:19 (6000/12000/12000)
    Entries:12/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:2:45 AM

  • On the Bubble

    Level:19 (6000/12000/12000)
    Entries:13/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:2:00 AM

The clock is now paused with the action on the bubble to the end of the night. There are 13 players left, and Matthew Ouellette is the chip leader with more than 700k in front of him, but Graham Lupton isn’t far behind, playing about 600k.

They’ll take two minutes off the clock manually for each hand played until the next elimination brings out the bags.

  • Two Off the Bags

    Level:19 (6000/12000/12000)
    Entries:14/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:1:45 AM

As Level 19 begins, Day 1a is down to 14 remaining. That puts them two away from the bags.

  • Still 15 Left

    Level:18 (5000/10000/10000)
    Entries:15/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:1:35 AM

About 10 minutes remain in Level 18, with the field still stuck on 15 players left. That still leaves them three off the bags, so it looks like Day 1a will play into Level 19.

  • 3 Off the Bags

    Level:18 (5000/10000/10000)
    Entries:15/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:1:15 AM

They are now three off the bags in Day 1a of the Megastack with 15 players left. Mohsen Shafazideh was the most recent player to head to the exits to get it to 15.

  • 16 Remain

    Level:17 (4000/8000/8000)
    Entries:16/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:12:55 AM

Day 1a of the Megastack was stalled on 18 players for more than a level, but that dam finally burst after Debi Loomer shoved the flop with a diamond draw and bricked it, sending her stack to Jordan Banfield. Another player followed her to the rail shortly after, bringing them down to 16 remaining, four off the bags.

  • Final Two Tables, 6 Off the Money

    Level:16 (3000/6000/6000)
    Entries:18/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:12:15 AM

Day 1a of the Megastack is down to the final two tables now, with 18 players remaining. That puts them 6 eliminations off the bags with about 5 minutes to play in Level 16.

  • 9 Off the Bags

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:21/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:11:30 PM

Level 15 has just ended, and the Day 1a field is down to 21. That puts them 9 off the bags, so there’s still a fair bit of poker to play when they return from the break, and it still looks like today will last well into Level 17 or 18.

  • Ouellette Leads Final 24

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:24/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:11:20 PM

It looks like Matthew Ouellette is the chip leader at the moment, with a bit more than 300k in front of him. Mohsen Shafazideh looks to be playing just under 300k.

  • 25 Remain

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:25/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:11:05 PM

Day 1a of the Megastack is down to 25 players, putting them 13 off the bags for tonight. 25 minutes remain in Level 15, with another break scheduled following this level. At the current pace, it looks like they’ll be playing well into Level 17 or 18 before the bags come out.

  • Final Three Tables

    Level:14 (2000/4000/4000)
    Entries:27/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:10:20 PM

The Megastack field is down to the final three tables now, with 27 players left. That puts them 15 off the bags with just under 30 minutes to play in Level 14. It looks like Jordan Banfield is the current leader, playing about 300k right now.

  • Down to 29

    Level:14 (2000/4000/4000)
    Entries:29/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:10:15 PM

They are down to 29 players remaining in Day 1a of the Megastack, with 30 minutes to play in Level 14. That puts them 17 eliminations off the bags, so there are still at least a couple of hours of poker left before the day ends.

  • Final Four Tables

    Level:13 (1500/3000/3000)
    Entries:36/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:10:00 PM

The Megastack Day 1a is down to 36 players on the final four tables, with about 10 minutes to play in Level 13. That puts them 24 players away from the money.

  • 12 Bags Expected to End the Night

    Level:13 (1500/3000/3000)
    Entries:42/118
    Prizes:$56,050
    Local Time:9:35 PM

Entries are now closed for the opening flight to the Megastack Day 2, and the final number looks to be 118 entries, for just over $56k in prizes. That means that 12 players will survive the day, and they won’t stop playing until they hit that number.

  • Nearly $55k in Prizes

    Level:12 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:54/115
    Prizes:$54,625
    Local Time:8:50 PM

20 minutes remain in Level 12, with entries set to close at the end of the break following this level. The field is now at 115 entries for prizes of just shy of $55k, and entries will be closed in just over 30 minutes.

Ramaz Haymour, Jason Law, Ivanna Yatsiuk, Fred Werezak, Eric Wasylenko, Denis Mujcin, Debi Loomer, Matthew Ouellette, Jordan Banfield, Aidan Klingbeil, Deven Lane, Weston Pring, Gord Chester, Jacqueline Ray, Mohsen Shafazideh, David Ballantine, Garry Chan, Alex Liu, and Phillip Clingo are among the players still alive.

  • 110 Entries

    Level:11 (1000/2000/2000)
    Entries:56/110
    Prizes:$52,250
    Local Time:8:10 PM

Level 11 is about half complete, and the field for Day 1a of the Megastack is up to 110 entries. That puts more than $52k into the prizes, with more than an hour left to get into this opening flight.

  • More than $50k in Prizes

    Level:10 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:54/108
    Prizes:$51,300
    Local Time:7:50 PM

Five minutes remain in Level 10, with two more levels of open entry to follow this one. The field is now at 108 entries for prizes of more than $51k from this opening flight, but the final total will likely be between 110 and 12 entries.

  • Final Three Levels of Entry

    Level:10 (800/1600/1600)
    Entries:64/103
    Prizes:$48,925
    Local Time:7:15 PM

The Megastack players are back in their seats following the dinner break, and they are playing the final three levels with entries open. The field is at 103 entries for prizes just shy of $50k, and it still looks like a good bet that the field will top out between 110 & 120 entries today.

  • More than 100 Entries at Dinner

    Level:9 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:63/101
    Prizes:$47,975
    Local Time:6:45 PM

The Megastack players are on their dinner break, and there are three more levels of entry when they return for Level 10 in about 30 minutes. The field is now over 100 entries, with the prize pool just a few entries shy of $50k. With more than 2 hours of entry remaining, I expect the final field for this flight to end somewhere between 110 & 120 entries.

  • Nearing 100 Entries

    Level:9 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:63/97
    Prizes:$46,075
    Local Time:5:55 PM

The Megastack field is just shy of 100 entries now, for prizes of more than $46k. Level 9 has just begun, and they’ll take their dinner break following this level. When they return from dinner, there are still three levels of poker with open entries, so it seems like a good bet that this flight will leave 100 entries in the dust.

  • Up to 90 Entries

    Level:8 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:63/90
    Prizes:$42,750
    Local Time:5:25 PM

The Megastack field is now at 90 entries, for prizes of $42,750. There are now 4 hours left in the entry period for this flight, so a field of more than 100 is still looking good.

  • Nearly $40k in Prizes

    Level:7 (400/800/800)
    Entries:63/84
    Prizes:$39,900
    Local Time:5:05 PM

Just over 5 minutes remain in Level 7, and the field is now at 84 entries. That puts the prizes just shy of $40k, with that threshold to be crossed with the next entry. There are still more than 4 hours left to enter today’s first flight, so the 100-entry threshold still looks like a good bet.

  • 80 Entries

    Level:7 (400/800/800)
    Entries:63/80
    Prizes:$38,000
    Local Time:4:35 PM

Level 7 has about 30 minutes to play, with the field now at 80 entries. That puts the prizes at exactly $38k, but there are still a bit less than 5 hours to enter, so those numbers will still increase significantly before it all closes.

They do it all again tomorrow for Day 1b, with the top 10% from both flights returning for Friday’s Day 2.

    Local Time:4:00 PM

The field for the Megastack is nearing 80 entries now, with prizes of more than $35k. There are still about 5.5 hours left to enter today’s flight, so 100+ seems like a very good bet at this point.

The Megastack prizes are over $30k, with about 15 minutes to play in Level 5. The field is at 67 entries now, but there are still more than 6 hours to enter this opening flight, so a field for 100 or more for Day 1a seems reasonably likely at this point.

  • 22 Bags from 1b

    Level:18 (5000/10000/10000)
    Entries:22/228 (34/346 combined)
    Prizes:$108,300 (Combined: $164,350)
    Local Time:1:25 AM

Day 1b is over, but there is one fewer bag than expected, as there was a double knockout on the final hand. That means the posted prizes are likely a bit off, but I’ll correct them on Friday when I see the new payouts based on 34 Day 2 players instead of 35.

Stay tuned for the Day 1b chip counts coming in about 30-45 minutes, and the Day 2 post with full seat assignments to follow after that.

  • End-Of-Night Bubble

    Local Time:1:00 AM

The 1b field is on the bubble to the bags now, with 24 players left. The clock is paused with 4:40 remaining in Level 17, and they are playing their first hand during hand-for-hand play. Local Time:12:05 AM

The 1b field is down to 30 players left now, wth just under 20 minutes to play in Level 16. That puts the field 7 players away from the end of the night. They should hit the bubble play sometime in Level 17, assuming things don’t grind to a halt.

    Local Time:11:35 PM

The 1b players are on the break following Level 15, and the field is down to 34 remaining. That puts them 11 eliminations off the bags when they return for Level 16 in about 10 minutes.

  • 15 Off the Bags

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:38/228 (50/346 combined)
    Prizes:$108,300 (Combined: $164,350)

With Level 15 just getting started, the field is down to 38. That puts them 15 players off the bags.

    Prizes:$108,300 (Combined: $164,350)
    Local Time:9:30 PM

Day 1b blew past all expectations, with a whopping 228 entries for the final flight. That put the two-day total at 346, for combined prizes of almost $165k.

With 228 on the board today, that means 23 players will move on to Day 2 from today’s flight. They will join 12 players already waiting from Day 1a for 35 players returning. I haven’t seen the Day 2 prizes yet, but I’m expecting a first-place prize of $35k or more when the prizes do get posted.

  • Nearing $160k in Combined Prizes

    Level:12 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:75/217 (87/335 combined)
    Prizes:$103,075 (Combined: $159,125)
    Local Time:8:55 PM

Just over 30 minutes remain in entries for the Megastack, and the Day 1b field is up to 217 entries. That puts the combined field at 335, for prizes just shy of $160k, with more than $100k of that coming from 1b alone.

  • 1b Crosses the $100k Threshold

    Level:12 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:74/211 (86/329 combined)
    Prizes:$100,225 (Combined: $156,275)
    Local Time:8:30 PM

About an hour remains in entries for Day 1b of the Megastack as Level 11 ticks down to the end. The 1b field is now at 211, which pushes the 1b prizes over $100k, and the combined prizes to more than $156k.

  • Nearing $100k in 1b Prizes

    Level:11 (1000/2000/2000)
    Entries:73/208 (85/326 combined)
    Prizes:$98,800 (Combined: $154,850)
    Local Time:8:15 PM

About 20 minutes remain in Level 11, and Level 12 is the final level to enter this game. That puts the final chance to enter about 75 minutes away, and right now, the 1b field is just 3 entries shy of $100k in prizes for today’s flight alone.

  • More than $150k in Prizes

    Level:10 (800/1600/1600)
    Entries:82/199 (94/317 combined)
    Prizes:$94,525 (Combined: $150,575)
    Local Time:7:40 PM

Just under 15 minutes remain in Level 10, and the combined prizes just pushed over $150k. The 1b field is 1 entry shy of 200, with just under two hours to go in the registration period. The field today needs just 12 more entries for $100k in prizes for 1b alone.

  • Final Three Levels of Entry

    Level:10 (800/1600/1600)
    Entries:81/192 (93/310 combined)
    Prizes:$91,200 (Combined: $147,250)
    Local Time:7:20 PM

Dinner is over, and the Megastack players are into the final three levels of open entry. Just over 2 hours remain until the registration desk closes for good on this game, so there’s still plenty of time to hit 200 entries for today’s flight.

  • 310 Total Entries on Dinner

    Level:9 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:81/192 (93/310 combined)
    Prizes:$91,200 (Combined: $147,250)
    Local Time:6:30 PM

The 1b players are on their dinner break with the conclusion of Level 9, and the combined field is now at 310 entries, for prizes of $147,250. The game needs just 6 more entries to hit $150k in combined prizes, and it seems like a lock that will happen shortly after they return from dinner. Right now, there are about 3 hours left to enter the Megastack game.

  • 300 Combined Entries

    Level:8 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:100/182 (112/300 combined)
    Prizes:$86,450 (Combined: $142,500)
    Local Time:5:40 PM

Just under 10 minutes remain in Level 8, and th 1b field just hit 182. That was the magic number needed for a combined field of 300, but with just shy of four hours left to enter today’s flight, it looks like this game will go even bigger.

The combined prizes are now more than $142k, and today’s flight only needs another 16 entries to push the prizes over $150k. 18 more entries today will put the 1b field over 200.

  • 18 Away from 300 Combined

    Level:7 (400/800/800)
    Entries:105/164 (117/282 combined)
    Prizes:$77,900 (Combined: $133,950)
    Local Time:5:00 PM

With about 5 minutes to play in Level 7, the 1b field is up to 164 entries, for 282 combined across both starting flights. That puts the combined prizes at $134k, with about 4.5 hours still left in entries. Mal Hagan, Eric Wasylenko, Jerry Nelner, Dave S, Regan Duong, Chris Clisby, and Daniel Lefebvre are among the players in action today.

  • Almost 160 1b Entries

    Level:7 (400/800/800)
    Entries:102/158 (114/276 combined)
    Prizes:$75,050 (Combined: $131,100)
    Local Time:4:45 PM

The 1b field is nearing 160 entries now, and a final combined field of 300+ is looking more and more likely as the numbers increase. At this point, they only need 24 more entries in the next 4.5 hours to hit that number, and given the pace to this point, that is looking more and more like a lock.

  • Nearly $125k in Prizes

    Level:6 (300/600/600)
    Entries:98/144 (110/262 combined)
    Prizes:$68,400 (Combined: $124,450)
    Local Time:4:15 PM

Level 6 has just ended, and the 1b players are out for their second break of the day. The field is at 144 entries for the second flight, with 262 across the two starting days now for combined prizes of $124,450.

More than 5 hours remain in entries, and with this being the final chance to bag a Day 2 stack, I expect the rebuys to be fairly brisk right up until the end of registration at 9:30 tonight, so a combined final field of 300 is looking more possible with every new entry. At this point, they only need 38 more entries to hit that mark.

  • More than 130 Entries for 1b

    Level:6 (300/600/600)
    Entries:100/131 (112/249 combined)
    Prizes:$62,225 (Combined: $118,275)
    Local Time:3:45 PM

The combined prizes are nearing $120k, with about 30 minutes to play in Level 6. The 1b field is already over 130 entries, for a combined total of 249.

150 entries for today’s flight looks like a lock, and with the current pace, it looks like it could go even bigger than that. The field today would need to hit 182 entries for the combined field to make it to 300, and while that might be a bit optimistic, it’s absolutely not out of the question. If it goes that big, it would mean prizes of nearly $150k.

  • $115k in Prizes

    Level:5 (300/500/500)
    Entries:103/124 (115/242 combined)
    Prizes:$58,900 (Combined: $114,950)
    Local Time:3:25 PM

10 minutes remain in Level 5, with the 1b field now at 124 entries. That’s already better than the total for Day 1a, and puts the two-day field at close to 250 entries, for combined prizes of just shy of $115k.

Willie Hernandez, John Sclaise, Alexandre Fortin, Bill Thomson, Alex Liu, Jacqueline Ray, George Yang, Phillip Clingo, and Homan Mohamadi are among the players in action for Day 1b.

  • More than $100k in Prizes in Level 4

    Level:4 (200/400/400)
    Entries:101/107 (113/225 combined)
    Prizes:$50,825 (Combined: $106,875)
    Local Time:2:40 PM

Level 4 has about 10 minutes to play, and the Day 1b field has already capped 100 entries. That puts the 1b prizes over $50k, for a combined total of 225 entries and prizes of more than $105k.

With this pace, a field today of 150 or more seems like a good bet, and if they make it that big, it will mean a prize pool of more than $127k.

  • Second Flight to the Mega Day 2 Starts at Noon

Entries are open for 12 levels, with the desk expected to shut down at around 9:30 PM. The game will play until only 10% of the field remains, and Day 1a took almost 19 full levels to get there, finishing later than 2:30 AM.

When the dust settled on the opening flight, Edmonton’s Matthew Ouellette led the way with almost 900k in his bag, Graham Lupton also bagged more than half a million, with 620k.

    Entries:1/346
    Prizes:$164,350
    Local Time:9:15 PM

    Local Time:8:30 PM

They are down to 4 left in the Megastack after Dave S hit the rail for 5th place. I missed the action while I was in the washroom, but Dave was the short stack with barely 10 bigs at the last count.

  • Dave S Doubles Through Taylor

    Level:26 (30000/60000/60000)
    Entries:5/346
    Prizes:$164,350
    Local Time:7:10

I picked up the action on the turn with the board reading 31086. Taylor was on the button and had a bet of 200k in front of him, while Dave S was deep in the tank. He checked the payout differential between 5th and 4th before he shoved.

Taylor snapped it off with a covering stack, and was ahead with pocket aces against K10, but in addition to trip and two pair outs, Dave was drawing to the spades. 2 on the river gave Dave what he needed to double up.

  • Gaetz Has the Best Ace

    Level:25 (25000/50000/50000)
    Entries:5/346
    Prizes:$164,350
    Local Time:6:55 PM

Thomas Taylor opened the cutoff to 110k, and Kelly Gall called from the button, as did Ed Gaetz from the big blind. They all checked the 6A9 flop, but Gaetz led for 200k on the 2 turn.

Taylor was the only caller to the 3 river and, after a check from Gaetz, he fired 200k. Gaetz called quickly, showing ace-ten for the win after Talor showed ace-four.

  • Taylor Flops the Lead

    Level:25 (25000/50000/50000)
    Entries:5/346
    Prizes:$164,350

Thomas Taylor opened to 110k from the button, then called when big blind Jae Lee raised to 270k. Lee led for 120k on the 8KA flop and Taylor called. They checked it down through the 53 runout, and Taylor’s K10 was ahead of the pocket queens for Lee.

Lee was left with just over 300k after the hand.
