Angelo Gambrelis Wins Seniors Event for $33,728

Seniors Winner Angelo Gambrelis
Wayne Gair It took nearly 18 hours for the Seniors to decide a winner tonight. With 519 entries, there were 78 paid spots. I was busy for most of this one, watching the final Day of the Mini Main Event, so I wasn’t able to catch much of the action until they were three-handed.
With the action three ways, Graham Lupton was the first to go. Angelo Gambrelis was the leader when I got to the table, but Lupton doubled through him shortly after to take the lead. Gambrelis then lost another hand to runner-up Wayne Gair, doubling Gair up to near Lupton while leaving the eventual winner on about 700k with the big blind at 150k.
The players took a break with Lupton and Gair on about 4.5 million each, though Lupton was a bit ahead, while Gambrelis was the short stack. He found a huge double to stay alive through Lupton, however, when the money went in with Lupton drawing to hearts, but Gambrelis on the best hand with ace-high and a gutshot to Broadway. Lupton turned more outs to a straight, but ultimately bricked the lot to leave Gambrelis’ ace-high best.
Lupton then called off a shove from Gambrelis with ace-four, but ran into pocket sevens. He couldn’t spike an ace and ended his run in third place. That sent Gambrelis to the lead for heads up against Wayne Gair.
Heads up finished a bit after 4 AM, and all four aces in the deck figured in the hand. Gambrelis limped the button, then snapped it off when Gair shoved. Gair had a decent holding for heads up with ace-eight, but he ran into the rockets for Gambrelis. An ace on the flop pretty much sealed it for Gambrelis, and Gair had to settle for second place tonight.

That puts Gambrelis over 5 million, while Wayne Gair is about 4.5 million, and Lupton was left short and busted in the next hand.

Gambrelis Doubles
Level: 30 (100000/200000/200000) Entries: 3/519 Prizes: $171,270 The money went in on the flop with the board reading Q♥J♥10♥. Angelo Gambrelis was at risk with ace-six against king-eight for Grama Lupton. Gambrelis was best with ace high, and was drawing to the Broadway gutshot, while Lupton was looking for a heart to hit his flush with the 8♥ in his hand.
The 2♠3♦ turn and river bricked for both hands, and Gambrelis’ ace high took it down. He had 1.25 million to start the hand, so he’s up to about 3 million, with Lupton on about the same and Wayne Gair now in the lead.

Seniors Cap 500 Entries
Level: 12 (1500/3000/3000) Entries: 129/519 Prizes: $171,270 The Seniors game was another big one, with a final field of 519 entries. There are still 129 players competing for 78 paid spots today, so it will be a while before anyone starts getting paid.
This game is playing out in Sundance, while I am in Chrome for the day following Day 2 of the Mini Main Event, so I won’t have eyes on this game until after Day 2 is complete, or until they move the final few players over to Chrome. That said, I’ll still try to stay on top of the numbers and payouts for the rest of the day.

Seniors Have the Early-Bird Start on Sunday

Event #6: $400 Seniors NLH ($330 + $70)
Date: Oct 5, 10 AM Blinds: 30 Minutes Starting Stack: 20k Late Entry: 8 Levels (2:30 PM) Day 1 Ends: One-Day Event The Seniors game is the early game on Sunday, and it’s really early. Cards go in the air at 10 AM, and entries for the event are restricted to players 50 years of age or older.
Blinds will be 30 minutes long, and players start the day with 20k. Entries are open for 8 levels, with the desk closing at about 2:30 PM. After that, it’ll be a race to the finish as they’ll finish this game in one day.
I likely won’t be watching this one very closely, at least not until after Day 2 of Event #4 finishes. This game should be my second priority, however, so if it’s still running once E4 finishes, I’ll move here. Either way, I’ll still get the results and numbers published, but don’t expect a lot of coverage of this one.

Cal Johnson In January, this was a massive game with 564 entries and $186,120 in prizes. Cal Johnson won it, with Carlos Alaniz and Gord Chester rounding out the podium spots. Given the other numbers so far this week, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this game meet or beat the January numbers.
