Josh Wallace Defeats Anthony Casten for Final Ring
Level: 35 (300000/600000/600000) Entries: 1/488 Prizes: $161,040 Local Time: 5:15 AM
Josh Wallace, Winner of the Double Stack Closer
Anthony Casten The final game of this record WSOP-C Calgary is in the books, and it was a local battle between Josh Wallace and Anthony Casten. Despite the turbo structure, the game played a bit more than 13 hours, with most of the final two tables played with less than 15 big blinds average.
Wallace was the chip leader through much of the final table, though for a while, he and 4th-place finisher Curtis Singleton were sharing the lead. Once Singleton hit the rail, three-ways was a bit crazy.
3rd-place finisher Thomas Sloan had a heck of a run, as he was nearly felted at one point on the final table, down to less than a big blind. He managed to spin it up to get three ways, and was actually chip leader for a bit.
But the blinds were getting big and moving fast, and the chips for the final three moved around a lot. Sloan finally hit the rail when he got his money in with ace-ten after a raise from Casten, but Wallace woke up with ace-jack and reshoved the big stack.
Casten got out of the way, and Wallace’s jack kicker played for the win. He started heads up with the lead, but Casten quickly doubled to take the lead. Wallace doubled right back a few hands later, and he was up about 2:1 over Casten.
After that, it didn’t take long to finish. Casten shoved a king, but Wallace woke up with a suited queen-gapper and called it off. It was the second time at the final table that Wallace flopped the nuts, hitting three clubs on the flop to leave Casten drawing to runner-runner boat, and he was drawing dead on the turn. Earlier at the FT, Wallace flopped nut Broadway to send Scott Serwa packing in 7th place.
This was Wallace’s 7th live win, and the $32k score should put him over $430k in lifetime earnings once the exchange comes in.

Ko led out for 460k on the 5♠ turn, and Casten shoved. Ko quickly called with two pair on nine-five of hearts, but Casten was drawing to spades, and got there with the A♠ on the river for the double-up.
Mehdi Saeed is also still in this one, and he’s running on fumes, but not as far as his stack is concerned. He’s still sitting fine there, but he was up until 5 AM at the Freezeout final table last night, and is now going late tonight, with a flight back east at 7 AM in the morning. Hopefully, he can sleep on airplanes.

What a Closer
This years, Double Stack crushed expectations drawing in 488 total entries. Of the field, only 213 players remain. They combined for a total prize pool of $165,000. A winner will be decided later in the night, as a successful WSOP Calgary 2026 draws to a close. Make sure to stay tuned as the remaining two rings are won, and for a recap of all the series events to follow.

More than $120k in Prizes
Level: 9 (1000/1500/1500) Entries: 224/370 Prizes: $122,100 Local Time: 7:10 PM There are just under 90 minutes to enter the final event of the series, but it’s already a big one, with 370 entries so far. It seems like a lock to crack 400 entries for this one, though 500 might be a bit out of reach. Still, with this being the final shot at a ring this series, I expect rebuys to be fairly brisk right up until the last minute.

More than $85k in Prizes
Level: 5 (300/600/600) Entries: 220/259 Prizes: $85,470 Local Time: 5:30 PM They are playing the final level before the first break in the Closer, with the field closing in on 300 entries already. There are just over 3 hours of entry remaining, so a field of 400-500 seems pretty likely in this one.
Right now, the prizes have just capped $85k, but prizes of more than $100k seem like a lock at this point. They need less than 50 entries to hit that figure, so that seems like ti will happen shortly after the break, in Level 7 or 8.

Level: 2 (200/300/300) Entries: 178/183 Prizes: $60,390 Local Time: 4:35 PM As expected, the numbers in the Closer are growing fast, with more than 180 entries in Level 2. Less than five minutes remain in this level, with entries still open for just under 4 hours.

Entries are open until about 8:30 tonight, and I expect this to be a big field before the dust settles, and players buying in should expect to be playing until 3 or 4 AM at least.

Final Event of WSOP-C Jan Runs at 4 PM

Event #18: $400 NLH Double Stack Closer ($330 + $70)
Date: Jan 19, 4 PM Blinds: 20 Minutes Starting Stack: 40k Late Entry: 12 Levels (~8:30 PM) Day 1 Ends: One-Day Event The final event of this record WSOP-C is set to go on Monday afternoon. The Double Stack Closer is a new event on the schedule, replacing the previous Big 30 Stack that previously closed out the series.
The action gets going at 4 PM, and players get 40k to start. Blinds are 20 minutes long, so it’s a bit of a deepstack turbo format for this one.
Players can buy in or rebuy for 12 levels of poker, putting the last chance to enter at about 8:30 PM. After that, they’ll play down to the ring sometime early Tuesday morning

Corey Arsenault Won his Second Ring in the Final EVent While it’s not a direct comparison, the final event of the October series, the Big 30 Stack, went to Corey Arsenault, as he won his second ring of the series. Aresenault only entered two tournaments in October, and he won them both.
In this one, he made it through 298 entries for the biggest share of $88,440 in total prizes, after beating Rodney Dyck heads up for the ring. Given the numbers for the rest of this January series, I expect the Double Stack Closer to get significantly more entries than the last event in October, possibly pushing to 500 or more.

Level: 31 (150000/250000/250000) Entries: 7/488 Prizes: $161,040 Local Time: 3:35 AM Thomas Sloan was very short at the last break, and was forced all in from his big blind. Michael Dulberg raised the middle to 500k, and everyone else folded.
Sloan was blind, and Dulberg showed king-ten, but Sloan revealed ace-four, and held on a runout of J♦4♦Q♦8♠3♥.

Singleton & Wallace Tied for Lead
Level: 30 (100000/200000/200000) Entries: 8/488 Prizes: $161,040 Local Time: 3:05 AM I’ve just had a glance at the stacks, and Josh Wallace and Curtis Singleton look to be neck & neck for the lead right now, with both players on about 4.5 million. There’s a break coming in about 10 minutes and I’ll update the full stacks for remaining players.

Slater Bubbles the Final Table
Level: 28 (60000/120000/120000) Entries: 10/488 Prizes: $161,040 Local Time: 2:30 AM The final table is being set now after Glenn Slater busted in 11th. He shoved under the gin for 210k, and Hassan Issa and Thomas Sloan both called.
They checked the 5♦6♥K♥ flop, but Sloan shoved the 5♠ turn. Issa mucked his hand, and Sloan was looking for a heart with nine-deuce of hearts to crack Slater’s pocket threes. The river delivered with J♥ and the final table was set.

Final Table Bubble
Level: 28 (60000/120000/120000) Entries: 11/488 Prizes: $161,040 Local Time: 2:20 AM David Ko was the soft bubble to the final table tonight. There are now 11 players left, and they’ll move to the stage for the final final table of the series after the next elimination.

Trieu Doubles with Rockets
Level: 27 (50000/100000/100000) Entries: 12/488 Prizes: $161,040 Local Time: 2:10 AM Raymond Trieu raised, then called off the jam from David Ko to put himself at risk. He had aces, though, and was well ahead of Ko’s king-eight. Trieu hit an ace on the A♣7♠6♥7♣K♠ board before turning the house for the win.

12 Left
Level: 27 (50000/100000/100000) Entries: 12/488 Prizes: $161,040 Local Time: 2:05 AM They are two away from the final table now, after Mehdi Saeed and Trent Hopper hit the rail recently. That should give Saeed a chance to have a bit of a nap before his flight.
Meanwhile, Hopper raised with pocket sevens, then called for the race when Curtis Singleton shoved ace-eight. Singleton got there to send Hopper out in 13th place.

Hopper Sends Two Out
Level: 26 (40000/80000/80000) Entries: 14/488 Prizes: $161,040 Local Time: 1:50 AM Alex Liu opened under the gun to 350k, leaving just a 5k chip behind. Trent Hopper shoved a bigger stack next to act. It folded around to Gregory Wood in the big blind, and he called with less, while Liu tossed in his final 5k.
Both Liu and Wood were playing ace-nine, but they were dominated by Hopper’s ace-queen of spades. Liu and Wood flopped open-ended, but Hopper turned his queen on the board of 7♠6♦8♠Q♣2♦ and held to send them both to the cash cage.

Casten Flushes Ko
Level: 26 (40000/80000/80000) Entries: 16/488 Prizes: $161,040 Local Time: 1:40 AM Anthony Casten opened to 160k early, and David Ko called the big blind after taking a look at Casten’s stack, which he said was around a million before the hand. The flop was 6♥4♠9♣ and Ko check-called for 200k.

Nearly 500 Entries for the Closer
Level: 13 (2000/4000/4000) Entries: 213/488 Prizes: $161,040 Local Time: 8:35 PM Entries are closed for the final event of this series, with 488 entries on the board. The prizes still arent in, so that number is yet to be confirmed, but when it is, it will mean 74 players getting part of more than $161k in prizes later tonight.
I’m still watching the final table of the High Roller, but will move to finish this one out once that game ends. This game should move relatively quickly now with the 20-minute blinds, but I still expect it to be a 3 AM finish at least.

After the flop came 7♥8♥4♦, and the cutoff moved all in for 47,000. Sharma went into the tank, but was suspicious and made the call. Both players revealed their holdings.
Cutoff: A♥9♦
DJ Sharma: 10♣7♠The board completed with the 5♦6♥ to give the cutoff a straight.

-
Closer Nearing 200 Entries
Level: 2 (200/300/300) Entries: 178/183 Prizes: $60,390 Local Time: 4:35 PM As expected, the numbers in the Closer are growing fast, with more than 180 entries in Level 2. Less than five minutes remain in this level, with entries still open for just under 4 hours.

Almost 100 Entries to Start the Closer
Level: 1 (100/200/200) Entries: 85/85 Prizes: $28,050 Local Time: 4:05 PM The final event for Jan 2026 WSOP-C is now underway, with just under 4.5 hours to get your final buy-in for the series in.
