  • Benny Sarnelli Defeats Samson Mesenegeeshik in Record Mini Main

    Level:36 (400000/800000/800000)
    Entries:1/2269
    Prizes:$735,405
    Local Time:2:20 AM

The massive Mini Main Event is now over, and Edmonton’s Benny Sarnelli got his first ring at the end. It was a pretty solid final table that featured Skyler York, Michael Khan, Michael Malm, Regan Duong, and Harp Padda, among others.

Sarnelli wasn’t the big stack the whole way. Malm and Khan were usually the ones with the big stack as the table played down, until Malm was chipped down shortly after the FT started. After that, Khan mostly ran the show until they got down to the final four.

That’s when the stacks started yoyoing. York was the first to go from four-handed play, and Khan still had the lead. A few hands later, Khan was down to the short stack with Sarnelli on top. Khan got a double back, but couldn’t hold onto it before finishing in 3rd.

That left Sarnelli with the big stack going into heads-up against Samson Mesenegeeshik. Sarnelli was about 2:1 up, and the final phase only took a few hands to complete. The final hand was all in preflop, with Mesenegeeshik on KJ against ace-three off for Sarnelli. Sarnelli hit his three to take a bigger lead and held for the win.

    Mini Main Final Hand

This was Sarnelli’s first ring, but he’s had a few wins before up in Edmonton. He had $56k in wins going into this one, so the huge score here will come close to doubling his previous lifetime earnings.

    Michael Khan

Benny Sarnelli has the big lead now, with about twice as many chips as second-place Samson Mesenegeeshik. He just picked up a big pot to drop Michael Khan back to the short stack.

He raised the button to 1.2 million, and Khan called to the 1068 flop. Khan check-raised from 1.2 million to 2.7 million, and Sarnelli called.

Khan led for 4 million on the 4 turn, and Sarnelli flatted. The fourth heart came on the river with the Q. Khan checked, then swore under his breath when Sarnelli fired 4 million, before ultimately folding. That left him with about 9 million, and he busted shortly after.

  • Khan Chips Back Up

    Level:35 (300000/600000/600000)
    Entries:3/2269
    Prizes:$735,405
    Local Time:1:35 AM

Michael Khan was the chip leader at the break about half an hour ago, but he’d chipped down to the short stack by the time they were three-handed. That changed when Benny Sarnelli raised the button to 1.2 million, and Khan called from the big blind.

The flop was 4104, and Khan check-raised from 1.2 million to 2.4 million. Sarnelli made the call to the Q turn.

Khan led out for 3.2 million, then called when Sarnelli shoved his covering stack. Sarnelli was on ace-queen with top pair, but Khan tripped up on the flop with 54 and held for the win. He doubled back up to over 20 million.

  • Skyler York Out in 4th Place for $34,880

    Level:35 (300000/600000/600000)

    Skyler York

Skyler York was the short stack at the break 20 minutes ago, and he just ended his night in 4th place. Samson Mesenegeeshik limped the button before York shoved the small blind. Mesenegeeshik snap-called with aces against queen-ten for York, and the aces held for the win.

That leaves the record-setting Mini Main Event 3-handed between Michael Khan, Benny Sarnelli, and Samson Mesenegeeshik.

Michael Khan raised to 1 million under the gun, and everyone else called to see a flop of 2810. The action checked around to Benny Sarnelli on the button, and he fired a bet of 2 million.

The rest of the family folded, and Sarnelli showed the 10 as he collected the pot.

Benny Sarnelli limped in from the small blind, and Samson Mesenegeeshik checked the big. They both checked the JK6 flop, and Sarnelli check-called for 850k on the Q turn. They both checked the 7 river, and Mesenegeeshik showed A6 against K5 for Sarmelli, who took it down with top pair.

    Regan Duong

The big hand happened against Michael Khan with Regan Duong on the big blind. I missed the preflop action, but with the flop os K2J showing, Duong checked, Khan bet 1.5 million, Duong raised to 3.7 million, and Khan shoved a covering stack. Duong mucked his hand to leave himself short, and he was out shortly after.

    Mike Malm

There are five left in the Mini Main now after Mike Malm took sixth place. He started the day as the leader, and was stacking big all day, but ran into some trouble at the final table. He was the shortest stack at the last break, but I missed his bustout action updating other events.

Regan Duong raised the button to 500k, and Skyler York called from the big blind. York check-called for 350k on the 4JK flop, and they both checked the Q turn.

When the river came 9 York checked again, then mucked when Duong bet 850k. “Jack-ten is good,” he muttered as he mucked his hand.

There is a break coming in about 5 minutes, and I’ll get a round of chip counts then.

In a hand with the action picked up on the turn, small blind Mike Malm bet 1.5 million with the board reading 310AQ. After some tank-time, Skyler York flatted from the big blind to the 3 river. Both players checked it down.

“You win,” Malm said, reluctant to show his hand. He eventually showed seven-four off with a spade, but Yprk had seven-deuce of spades for the flush win.

  • Day 1d of the Record(?) Mini Main Set for Saturday

    Date:Day 1d: Jan 10, 11 AM
    Blinds:30 Minutes
    Starting Stack:30k
    Late Entry:12 Levels (~6:15 PM)
Day 1 Ends:End of Level 22 or 5% of the field
    Entries:1,353
    Prizes:$441,227

I’m calling it now — the January 2026 Mini Main Event is going to set a new Alberta record for field size. With three flights in the books, the game already has 1,353 entries for nearly $450k in prizes.

The previous biggest field in Alberta came in January 2024, when the 4-Flight got 1,715 entries by the end of Day 1d. To contrast that with this year’s Mini Main, after three flights in 2024, the field was at 1,093, nearly 300 fewer than this year’s 3-flight total.

The Jan 2024 game got 622 entries on Day 1d, and that seems like a pretty easy target to hit, based on the interest in this 2026 game so far. But this year’s 1d doesn’t even have to hit that number — 362 entries are all Day 1d needs to meet the record, and it seems impossible to imagine it getting less. With nearly $450k in prizes so far, I’d bet that the 1d field will easily beat the 622 from Jan 2024 1d, and could approach 4 digits as players start to look at what is likely to be a top prize nearing $100k or more for this $400 buy-in.

The 1d action kicks off at 11 AM on Saturday, and expect the game to overflow from Sundance to Chrome fairly early in the day. Blinds are 30 minutes, with the usual 30k starting stack.

They play 12 levels of poker with entries open, with entries closing at the start of Level 13 after the dinner break at about 6:15 PM. Once entries close, they’ll play down to 5% of the starting field, or the end of Level 22, whichever comes first.

2024 & 2025 API Player of the Year Mike Malm is the stack to beat for 1d players. He has 2.2 million in his bag from Day 1b, and no one else is even close yet, with the 1a leader Ankhbayar Bayar at 1.45 million and the 1c leader at 1.495 million, giving Malm a 700k lead over the field, so far anyway.

Get ready for a massive Day 1d. I don’t always get my predictions right, but I’m pretty confident in saying that 1d will be among the biggest flights ever at a Deerfoot WSOP-C, and that the final number will not only break the local records, but could easily flirt with 2,000 entries or more for prizes in the $650k range.

Buckle up, Calgary — Day 1d of the Mini Main Event is going to be massive.

  • Ben Cooper Leads 1c Stacks

    Level:22 (15000/30000/30000)
    Entries:25/491 (68/1,353)
    Prizes:$153,929 ($441,227 total)
    Local Time:2:25 AM

The final numbers are in, and the biggest bag of Day 1c belongs to Ben Cooper. He put nearly 1.5 million into a bag, and was more than 350k ahead of second place, Richard Pepito with 1.125 million. Wayne Hoffert, Gregory Taylor, and Samson Mesenegeeshik round out the top five counts, with Hoffert at just shy of a million.

That still leaves 1b leader Mike Malm as the Day 2 big stack, but there is still a flight to be played, and it promises to have a lot of chips in play. Malm has 2.2 million in his 1b bag, but there are likely to be enough chips in play on Saturday for someone to stack up more.

  • No Bubble Play for 1c

    Level:16 (4000/8000/8000)
    Entries:74/491 (118/1,353)
    Prizes:$153,929 ($441,227 total)
    Local Time:11:20 PM

1c is now in the money, with no bubble play, as two players busted on the hand just before the clock pause. They’ll be on break in less than 5 minutes, and action tonight will play down to 25 players, or until the end of Level 22, whichever comes first.

  • 4 Off the Money

    Level:16 (4000/8000/8000)
    Entries:78/491 (122/1,353)
    Prizes:$153,929 ($441,227 total)
    Local Time:11:05 PM

The 1c field is down to 78 players left, just 4 off the money spots. Level 16 has just begun, with the next break following this level, but my guess is they’ll be hand-for-hand on the bubble, or in the money, by the time the break comes.

Meanwhile, 1b is nearly complete in Sundance, as they are on the bubble to the end of the night.

  • 74 Places Paid; At Least 25 Advance

    Level:15 (3000/6000/6000)
    Entries:96/491 (143/1,353)
    Prizes:$153,929 ($441,227 total)
    Local Time:10:45 PM

The prizes for 1c are in, and there will be 74 paid spots tonight. That puts them just over 20 eliminations away from the money at the moment.

Once they hit the money, they will keep playing until they get to the end of Level 22, or 25 players are left, whichever comes first. Day 1b is now nearing completion, with just a few eliminations left before the bags come out.

    Prizes:$153,615 ($440,897 total)
    Local Time:9:50 PM

That puts the combined total over 1,350, putting this field more than 250 entries above the record field after three flights in 2024. The total record came in at 1,715, which means that Day 1d needs fewer than 400 entries to still break the record.

    Local Time:9:20 PM

Level 12 has less than 15 minutes left, and once they sit down for Level 13 after the break, entries for 1c will be closed. At the moment, 1c has 466 entries, putting the combined total at 1,328, which is more than 200 ahead of the record field after 3 flights. Day 1d will be the determining factor, but the record seems almost certain to fall sometime tomorrow.

  • An Hour to go in 1c Entries

    Level:11 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:193/432 (278/1,294)
    Prizes:$135,432 ($421,757 total)
    Local Time:8:45 PM

Just under an hour remains in entries for Flight 1c, and all flights so far have beaten the individual flight numbers from the 2024 record field. The combined total is almost 1,300 already, and it seems likely that 1c will see another 30-50 entries at least before it closes at 9:45 PM.

At this point, assuming 1d isn’t a complete bust for entries, it looks like this event will crush the previous record, as 1d only needs about 400 entries to hit the record.

  • Liu Falls to Burst Bubble

    Entries:81/543
    Prizes:$179,190 ($279,197 total)

    Local Time:8:20 PM

The 1c field just pushed over 400, with the combined total now at 1,266. The 1c field is now just 14 entries away from the 1c field from Jan 2024, with the combined total more than 150 entries ahead of that record field after three full flights.

  • Nearing 400 Entries for 1c

    Level:9 (1000/1500/1500)
    Entries:215/384 (313/1,246)
    Prizes:$120,384 ($405,917 total)
    Local Time:8:00 PM

Day 1c is now closing in on 400 entries, and it looks like a safe bet they’ll hit that before entries close in about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Day 1c in 2024 January got 418 entries, which should also hittable by the end of today, and that would put the field nearly 200 entries ahead of the January record, but even at the current numbers, it is still well above the full three-flight numbers for Jan 2024.

Based on the 319 entries, which beat both Oct & Jan 2025 Day 1a for this game (it was called the 4-Flight in Jan, but otherwise the same event), there should have been at least 16 bags at the end of the night.

Instead, they got to the bubble and then lost two players, Hongwei Liu (17th) and Timothy Smith (16th), on the same hand, leaving just 15 players still alive. That happened with 18:21 remaining in Level 21, so the first flight ended a bit early, with fewer qualifiers than expected. Below is a look at all the cashing players from Day 1a, and stay tuned for a list of qualifying bags in a following post.

They are down to 62 players left in the Mini Main Day 1a. That puts them 12 players off the money spots, with Level 14 coming to an end. They’ll keep playing once they hit the money, with as many as 32 players cashing out tonight. At least 16 players will bag today, but they’ll bag more if they get to the end of Level 22 before they hit 16 players.

The prizes for Day 1a are in, and 48 place will be paid tonight. The action will continue once they hit the money, with only the top 5%, or 16 players, expected to bag tonight. However, if they make it to the end of Level 22 without hitting 16 players, they’ll bag up then, no matter how many are left. See below for a look at the prizes to 17th place tonight.

Just as a reminder, there will be nothing under the Payouts tab until Day 2. For Day 1 pay, I’ll be posting the payouts in posts as we go. They are now just under 40 eliminations off the money.

  • 319 Entries for 1a

    Level:13 (2000/4000/4000)
    Entries:95/319
    Prizes:$100,007
    Local Time:9:55 PM

Entries are now closed for Day 1 of the Mini Main Event, with the final tally on the board at 319. That is well ahead of both the Jan & Oct numbers for 1a in this event (note that in Jan last year, this game was called the 4-Flight). There will be 48 paid spots tonight, and at least 16 bags at the end. The action will continue until they hit 16 players, or the end of Level 22, whichever comes first.

  • 1a Beats October

    Level:10 (1000/2000/2000)
    Entries:125/281
    Prizes:$88,094
    Local Time:8:35 PM

The Day 1a field for the Mini Main has now exceeded the total for the opening flight in October. With just over an hour to enter today’s flight, the field is now 5 entries over the 276 recorded last time. With just 19 entries to go to hit 300, that still looks like a decent number to end on today.

The final three tables of the Black Chip Bounty have now moved to Chrome, so I’ll be watching that one most closely until it finishes, at which point I’ll move back to finish the endgame on this one.

  • Ghai Sends Charlebois Out

    Level:9 (1000/1500/1500)
    Entries:135/260
    Prizes:$81,510
    Local Time:8:00 PM

Arya Ghai and Jeff “Ironman” Charlebois went at it in a couple of hands. Charlebois shoved the cutoff on Ghai’s big blind, and when Ghai woke up with a suited ace, he called. They were both playing an ace, with low kickers, and the board ran out to a chop.

In the very next hand, Charlebois again shoved, this time from the hijack. Ghai woke up with an ace-ten in the small blind and called off for a race against Charlebois’ pocket deuces. Ghai found a ten on the flop of 104KJ7 and held to take it down.

  • Victor Ma Leads at Second Break

    Level:9 (1000/1500/1500)
    Entries:137/251
    Prizes:$78,689
    Local Time:7:50 PM

Victor Ma looks to be the chip leader after 8 levels of play, with 149k. Evan Taylor and Jonathan Chimu also have more than 100k. Below is a look at the top ten stacks as counted on the break by dealers.

  • 250 Entries on Second Break

    Level:9 (1000/1500/1500)
    Entries:136/250
    Prizes:$78,375
    Local Time:7:40 PM

The players from Day 1a are now on their second break of the day, with the field at 250 entries. That is just 26 away from the October numbers, and it seems likely there will be at least that many entries over the next two hours before it all closes.

The prizes now are nearing $80k, but if they can find another 50 entries for 300, that would put the prizes close to $95k for the opening flight.

  • 30 Away from Oct Numbers

    Level:8 (600/1200/1200)
    Entries:147/242
    Prizes:$75,867
    Local Time:7:20 PM

There are about 15 minutes left in Level 8, with the second break of Day 1a scheduled following this level. The field is now at 242 for today’s flight, putting it just 32 entries away from matching Oct 2025. With more than 2 hours left to enter, it looks like a lock to beat that number, but entries do tend to slow a bit after the second break. It still looks like ~300 entries is a decent bet today.

  • Columbres Doubles

    Level:7 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:146/231
    Prizes:$72,419
    Local Time:7:05 PM

Zhiyu Chen raised early to 2k before Loyd Columbres shoved all in for 16.4 from the hijack. It folded back to Chen who put in the call with a starting stack.

It was a race between nines for Columbres against king-jack of soades for Chen. Chen found a jack on the flop, but Columbres had already set up with the win with a nine on the board of [invalid notations]9c7hJdAh6c[/pcn[. The hand doubled Calumbres to more than $35k, while Chen is down to a bit more than 13k.

  • Nearing 220 Entries

    Level:7 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:149/218
    Prizes:$68,343
    Local Time:6:45 PM

The 1a field is now closing in on 220 entries as Level 7 begins. That leaves three hours left in the entry period, with the next break following Level 8, and then four more levels of entry after that.

At the moment, the field is only about 60 entries away from capping the October 2025 numbers, so it’s still looking like a solid bet.

  • More than 200 Entries to Start Level 6

    Level:6 (400/800/800)
    Entries:152/203
    Prizes:$63,641
    Local Time:6:20 PM

Level 6 has just begun, and the field is now over 200 entries, with prizes nearing $65k. There are now a bit more than 3 hours left to enter today’s flight, so capping the 276 entries from October 2025 still looks to be in the cards.

Among the players in today’s flight are DJ “Sharma Time” Sharma, who has just apparently hit a hand, as I heard shouts of Sharma Time across the casino. Along with the McDonald’s magnate from Edmonton, the 2024 & 2025 API Player of the Year, Mike Malm, is also in action today, along with Josh Myers, Stephen Dejarlais, Shane Chief, Skyler York, Victor Ma, Eric Vansteelandt, Jacob Sujata, Jerry Li, Jordan Banfield, Wayne Hoffert, Ghislaine Johnson, Chad Winnick, Sebastian Crema, Gail Flaherty, and Scot Munro.

  • 191 Entries after First Break

    Level:5 (300/600/600)
    Entries:156/191
    Prizes:$59,879
    Local Time:6:00 PM

The 1a players are back in their seats for the start of Level, and today’s field is up to 191 entries now. That means the prize pool so far is creeping up towards $60k, and it seems likely the 200-entry mark will fall sometime during this level. There are now just under 4 hours left to get into the opening flight, but there are 3 more flights before Sunday’s Day 2.

  • First Break of 1a

    Level:4 (300/500/500)
    Entries:154/186
    Prizes:$58,311
    Local Time:5:40 PM

The Day 1a players are heading out for their first break of the day with the conclusion of Level 4. There are 186 entries on the board as they head out, with 154 players left alive currently.

The total for Day 1a in October was 274, so this game is still easily on pace to cap that number, and perhaps go to 300 or more.

  • Closing in on 200 Entries before the First Break

    Level:4 (300/500/500)
    Entries:153/174
    Prizes:$54,549
    Local Time:5:25 PM

About 15 minutes remain in Level 4, with the first break of the day scheduled following this level. The field is now at 174 entries for prizes of almost $55k, with more than 4 hours left to enter today’s opening flight.

Of course, players still have three more shots at a bag in this event after today’s flight closes, with final numbers for this event expected to easily exceed 1,500. As it stands, Day 1a is already only about 100 entries off the 2025 October numbers for the opening flight.

  • 135 Entries in Level 2

    Level:2 (200/300/300)
    Entries:129/135
    Prizes:$42,323
    Local Time:4:45 PM

Level 2 is just coming to a close, with 135 entries on the board already. In October, the opening flight to the Mini Main Event saw 276 entries, so today’s flight is well on the way to meeting or beating that number. There are still almost 5 hours left to enter today’s flight.

The players will take their first break of the day following Level 4, with entries open until the beginning of Level 13, which should be about 9:45 PM.

  • A Healthy Start to the Mini Main

The first flight of the Mini Main has just began. Already it has seen a surge of players with 98 players having entered. One unlucky player has hit the rail, and there is plenty of time to join the action. Late registration will remain open for approximately five and a half hours.

  • Flight #1 to the Mini Main Boards Thursday Afternoon

    Date:Dat 1a: Jan 8, 4 PM
    Blinds:25 Minutes
    Starting Stack:30k
    Late Entry:12 Levels (~9:45)
Day 1 Ends:22 Levels or 5% of the field

The opening flight to the Mini Main Event takes off at 4 PM on Thursday afternoon. Players get 30k in chips to start, and the blinds for Day 1a & c are 25 minutes long.

Players have 12 levels to get into the game, which should put the last chance to enter at about 9:45 PM. After that, the bags will come out at the end of Level 22, or with 5% of the field remaining, whichever comes first. If it goes the full 22 levels, Days 1a/c will finish after 4 AM.

Nicolas Lee (R), winner of Mini Main Event, with Zeyu Huang

October 2025’s series saw Nicholas Lee take down this game for more than $75k. That was the biggest share of more than $550k in prizes from a field of 1,668, among the largest fields WSOP-C Calgary has seen. Lee was heads up against Chinese native & Toronto resident Kezheng Peng, who won just over $50k for second, with Winnipeg’s Dylan Ellis in 3rd. It was Lee’s fourth ring and gave him more than $575k (USD) in lifetime earnings, and he’s at well over $600k now after coming second on opening day at the 2026 January series in the NLH/PLO Mix.

  • No Bubble Play for 1c

    Level:16 (4000/8000/8000)
    Entries:74/491 (118/1,353)
    Prizes:$153,929 ($441,227 total)
    Local Time:11:20 PM

1c is now in the money, with no bubble play, as two players busted on the hand just before the clock pause. They’ll be on break in less than 5 minutes, and action tonight will play down to 25 players, or until the end of Level 22, whichever comes first.

  • 4 Off the Money

    Level:16 (4000/8000/8000)
    Entries:78/491 (122/1,353)
    Prizes:$153,929 ($441,227 total)
    Local Time:11:05 PM

The 1c field is down to 78 players left, just 4 off the money spots. Level 16 has just begun, with the next break following this level, but my guess is they’ll be hand-for-hand on the bubble, or in the money, by the time the break comes.

Meanwhile, 1b is nearly complete in Sundance, as they are on the bubble to the end of the night.

  • 74 Places Paid; At Least 25 Advance

    Level:15 (3000/6000/6000)
    Entries:96/491 (143/1,353)
    Prizes:$153,929 ($441,227 total)
    Local Time:10:45 PM

The prizes for 1c are in, and there will be 74 paid spots tonight. That puts them just over 20 eliminations away from the money at the moment.

Once they hit the money, they will keep playing until they get to the end of Level 22, or 25 players are left, whichever comes first. Day 1b is now nearing completion, with just a few eliminations left before the bags come out.

  • 490 Entries for 1c

    Level:13 (2000/4000/4000)
    Entries:164/490 (229/1,352)
    Prizes:$153,615 ($440,897 total)
    Local Time:9:50 PM

Entries are now closed for Day 1c, with the final total at 490 entries. That puts the combined total over 1,350, putting this field more than 250 entries above the record field after three flights in 2024. The total record came in at 1,715, which means that Day 1d needs fewer than 400 entries to still break the record.

  • Just Under 30 Minutes to Enter 1c

    Level:12 (1500/3000/3000)
    Entries:166/466 (237/1,328)
    Prizes:$146,091 ($432,977 total)

  • More than 400 for 1c

    Level:10 (1000/2000/2000)
    Entries:201/404 (299/1,266)
    Prizes:$126,654 ($412,517 total)

    Entries:218/351 (336/1,213)
    Prizes:$110,039 ($395,027 total)
    Local Time:7:15 PM

There are about 15 minutes left in Level 8 of Day 1c, with the 1c field now over 350 entries, and combined prizes closing in on $400k.

There are still a bit more than 2 hours left to enter this 3rd flight, plus a full fourth flight tomorrow. The 1c total for Jan 2024 was 418 entries, putting this field less than 70 away from the 1c number from 2024, but the total from the first three flights is already more than 100 entries above the final three-flight total from the 2024 record.

  • Two-Flight Total Nearly 200 Above the Record

    Level:6 (400/800/800)
    Entries:212/272 (366/1,134)
    Prizes:$85,272 ($368,957 total)
    Local Time:6:30 PM

Entries for Day 1c are still open for more than 3 hours, but the Day 1b field is now set in stone with 543 entries on the board. That means that after two full flights, there are 862 entries in this event (without considering the 1c entries), while in the record event from 2024, there were only 675 entries after two flights.

Much will depend on the final numbers for 1c/d, but the field is still well ahead of record pace.

  • Combined Field Now Ahead of the Record

    Level:5 (300/600/600)
    Entries:215/257 (363/1,111)
    Prizes:$80,570 ($361,367 total)
    Local Time:6:10 PM

In Jan 2024, after three full flights, the record field 4-Flight game was sitting at 1,092. It eventually went on to get more than 600 entries on 1b for a total of 1,715, but this field looks well on pace to beat that.

With about 3.5 hours left in 1c entry this year, the combined total is already over 1,100 and climbing. It’s easy to imagine another 100-200 entries in today’s 3rd flight before it closes, meaning the three-flight total this year could easily reach 1,200-1,300 or more. Time will tell what happens, and much will depend on the turnout for the final flight on Saturday, but at this point, even if the numbers for 1d are below the 2024 numbers, there is still a good chance of a record.

  • Nearing 1,100 Combined on First Break in 1c

    Level:4 (300/500/500)
    Entries:202/236 (353/1,082)
    Prizes:$73,986 ($351,797 total)
    Local Time:5:45 PM

Day 1c is now on their first break of the day, while Day 1b is on their dinner break. Entries for 1b will close in just over 30 minutes, with the field well above the record field number for 1b from 2024.

Day 1c still has open entries for about 4 hours, and this flight is already close to 2/3rds of the 1c total from the record 2024, and the combined field is already nearing the 3-flight total from that one. After 3 flights in 2024, there were 1,093 total entries, with 1,082 already in the mix for this one, with plenty of time left in 1c entries.

Predictions in poker are hard, but more and more it’s looking like this game will smash the records for the biggest field.

  • Record Field Well Within Sight

    Level:4 (300/500/500)
    Entries:193/218 (347/1,063)
    Prizes:$68,343 ($345,527 total)
    Local Time:5:30 PM

I’ve just had a bit of a dive into the previous record field from the January 2024 4-Flight, and so far, this event is well ahead of that record field. That game saw 280 entries on 1a, almost 40 less than 1a this time around. Likewise, Day 1b is also much larger, with more than 520 in this time around compared to 395 in Jan 2024.

Day 1c is still early in registration, but the field is already more than halfway to the Jan 2024 1c total, and it looks like a safe bet it’ll get there before entries close later tonight. Based on the entries from the first two flights, this event is well ahead — there were 675 entries after two flights in 2024, while this event already has 845 entries through two flights, with the second flight entries not even closed yet.

While it remains to be seen what the final totals for 1c/d will be, based on the first two flights, this game looks on pace to smash the record field size by he end of entries tomorrow.

  • Combined Entries Nearing 1,050

    Level:4 (300/500/500)
    Entries:185/204 (353/1,040)
    Prizes:$63,954 ($337,937 total)
    Local Time:5:15 PM

The combined field is now at 1,040 and climbing. Day 1b has about an hour left to enter, with that field over 500 already. 1c is at more than 200 with Level 4 just underway and some 4.5 hours left to enter.

It seems like the entries on 1c will pock up once 1b closes at 6:15, with players busting from that one moving to this one. It’s within reason to guess the combined field will be 1,300 or more by the time entries close tonight.

Currently, the record for entries in any WSOP-C event in Calgary since 2022 is 1,715 from the Jan 2024 4-Flight, which was what this event was called prior to Oct 2025. Given the current pace with the full 1d yet to run, it seems like a reasonable bet that this event could well compete for the biggest field ever in Calgary.

  • 17 Away from 1,000 Combined

    Level:2 (200/300/300)
    Entries:158/162 (360/983)
    Prizes:$50,787 ($319,127 total)
    Local Time:4:45 PM

The 1c field is now over 160 entries with Level 2 ticking down to the end. 1b now has over 500 entries, for a combined total of 983, and prizes of almost $320k. Entries on 1b will be closed in about 90 minutes, but there are still about 5 hours left to get into 1c, this is looking like it could be among the biggest fields ever here at Deerfoot.

Time will tell with 1d running tomorrow, but it’s looking good to have 1,600 or more by the end of entries tomorrow

  • More than $300k in Combined Prizes

    Level:2 (200/300/300)
    Entries:138/140 (342/955)
    Prizes:$43,890 ($309,887 total)
    Local Time:4:30 PM

Day 1c is now underway with 140 entries on the board in Level 2. With 1b pushing 500 entries already, and the desk still open on that one, the combined field is now almost at 1,000 entries already.

That puts the combined prizes over $300k and climbing, and given that 1b still has almost 2 hours of reg remaining, and 1c has more than 5 hours remaining, it seems like a lock that the combined field by the end of entries tonight will be well over 1,000, with prizes above $350k. 1d tomorrow should push that into the $500k range.

  • Flight #3 to the Mini Main Event goes Friday Afternoon

    Date:Day 1c: Jan 9, 4 PM
    Blinds:25 Minutes
    Starting Stack:30k
    Late Entry:12 Levels (~9:45 PM)
Day 1 Ends:End of Level 22 or 5% of the field

The third flight to the Mini Main Event Day 2 is set to take off at 4 PM on Friday. There are already 15 players waiting after Day 1a saw a solid turnout of 319 players, beating the 1a for the Oct Mini Main and the 1a for the Jan 4-Flight, and while there should have been at least 16 bags, a double knockout on the bubble meant they finished with less.

There are a couple of millionaires from Day 1a, Ankhbayar Bayar & Kyle Crego, leading the counts — a full look at the Day 1a qualifying stacks can be found at the end of day post for 1a, with the Day 1a cashouts in the previous Day 1a post.

Day 1c is a redo of 1a, with 25-minute blinds, and no dinner break. Entries are closed at the start of Level 13, which should be about 9:45 PM. After that, they play down to 5% of the field, or the end of Level 22, whichever comes first.

The top 15% of players cash in this event, with only 5% going through, so players finishing from 15%-5% will get paid out on Day 1. Note that players who cash out of a Day 1 are allowed to enter again in a later flight; however, once a player puts chips in a bag at the end of a flight, they may NOT register in any subsequent flights in this event.

Final Table Results from Mini Main Event

There are five left in the Mini Main now after Mike Malm took sixth place. He started the day as the leader, and was stacking big all day, but ran into some trouble at the final table. He was the shortest stack at the last break, but I missed his bustout action updating other events.

There is a break coming in about 5 minutes, and I’ll get a round of chip counts then.
