  • Sunny Lubana Defeats Kyle Dery for PKO Ring

    Entries:1/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:6:00 AM

Heads up lasted a single hand in the PKO game. Kyle Dery woke up with an ace, but ran into pocket jacks for Sunny Lubana. The jacks held on a nine-high board, thought Dery turned open-ended draws, but bricked when the river paired.

Dery got $15,345 for 2nd place, but $3k in bounties to pad the win, while Lubana got the same prize, but added $11,850 in bounties to the total for more than $27k.

  • Jakub Sujata Out in 3rd Place for $8,210

    Level:27 (50000/100000/100000)
    Entries:1/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:5:55 AM
    Jakub Sujata

Jakub Sujata hit the rail in 3rd tonight on a cooler. He shoved the small blind with eights, but Sunny Lubana woke up with nines and held for the win. Sujata won $8,210 from the prizes plus $5k in bounties.

  • David Davis Out in 4th Place for $5,667

    Level:27 (50000/100000/100000)
    Entries:3/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:5:35 AM
    David Davis

In the final hand of the previous level, Sunny Lubana opened under the gun to 160k before small blind David Davis shoved. Lubana snapped it off with more, and Davis was in rought shape.

He had sixes, but he ran into the aces for Lubana. Lubana found an ace on the flop, and Davis was dead by the turn. He won $5,667 from the prize pool, plus $2,600 in bounties.

  • Alen Bakovic Out in 5th Place for $4,007

    Level:26 (40000/80000/80000)
    Entries:4/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:5:30 AM
    Alen Bakovic

Sunny Lubana shoved the small blind, and Alen Bakovic called with less from the big. He had king-three of spades against jack-four off, but Lubana flopped a jack on the 59J9A board to take it down. Bakovic won just over $4k from the prizes, plus an extra $2,200 in bounties tonight.

  • Lubana Doubles

    Level:26 (40000/80000/80000)
    Entries:5/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:5:15 AM

Jake “TheSnake” Sujata shoved the big stack from the small blind, and Sunny Lubana snapped it off from the big. Lubana was on ace-eight of clubs against Q7 for Sujata. Lubana flopped his eight for insurance and held for a double from 710k to just over 1.6 million.

  • Jordan Matsui Out in 6th Place for $2,905

    Level:25 (30000/60000/60000)
    Entries:5/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:5:10 AM
    Jordan Matsui

Jordan Matsui got the rest of his stack in with ace-jack, but he ran into the pocket nines of David Davis. On a double-paired board with queens and threes, Davis’ nines held for the win.

Davis has chipped up significantly in this level, sitting close to 2 million now. Matsui earned $2,905 from prizes, plus about $2k extra in bounties.

  • Brett Worton Out in 7th Place for $2,160

    Level:25 (30000/60000/60000)
    Entries:6/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:5:05 AM
    Brett Worton

I missed the action while I was writing the previous hand, but Brett Worton was the 7th-place finisher tonight for $2,160 plus $3k in bounties.

  • Davis Rockets to Double

    Level:25 (30000/60000/60000)
    Entries:7/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:4:55 AM

Kyle Dery opened the cutoff to 120k before David Davis shoved exactly 10 bigs from the button. Jakub “TheSnake” Sujata was on the button, and he shoved a stack that covered Davis by a mile, and would seriously injure Dery.

Dery tanked for a bit before he let the hand go, and Davis showed black aces against ace-queen of hearts for Sujata. The aces held to send Davis up to 1.5 million, while Sujata is still sitting with a big stack.

    Dery said he folded ace-jack.

  • Qiang Qiu Out in 8th Place for $1,648

    Level:24 (25000/50000/50000)
    Entries:7/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:4:25 AM

Street poker works great, but it can’t protect you from coolers. Qiang Qiu just ran into a pretty cold deck.

Jakub Sujata raised to 100k from the hijack, and Qiu shoved the button. Sujata snapped it off and was dominating with ace-king into ace-queen for Qiu.

Sujata flopped a king, but Qiu found Broadway outs on the flop. He bricked the turn and river on the 2KJ58 runout, and since Sujata had him stacked, he was out in 8th place.

There is a break coming in just a couple of minutes, and I’ll get a full round of counts then.

  • Qiu Playing “Street Poker”

    Level:23 (20000/40000/40000)
    Entries:8/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:4:05 AM

The rest of the table has decided Qiang Qiu is playing some solid street poker. He doesn’t speak much English, and Kyle Dery, who is fluent in Chinese, has been helping him out a bit with translations, but he seems to understand the game pretty well.

In a recent hand, Brett Worton raised the middle, and Jakub Sujata called from the hijack. Qiu called the small blind, and big blind Jordan Matsui came along as well.

The flop was 543, and Qiu shoved a huge stack. All three players folded, and Qiu showed the nuts with seven-six. That got the table talking, but he wasn’t done.

A few hands later, Qiu limped in under the gun, and Brett Worton called from the button, while big blind Sunny Lubana checked his option. Lubana checked the A56 flop before Qiu fired 500k into the pot, prompting both players to fold. He showed an ace as he collected the pot.

  • Chris Watson Out on 9th Place for $1,292

    Level:23 (20000/40000/40000)
    Entries:8/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:3:45 AM
    Chris Watson

Chris Watson just picked up another score for BC’s Die Hard Poker League. He jammed sixes, but the big blind woke up with jacks, and Watson couldn’t find the cards he needed to survive.

  • Harry Newton Out in 10th Place for $1,041

    Level:23 (20000/40000/40000)
    Entries:9/399

Harry Newton was the first to bust from the final table tonight, taking 10th place for $1,041. I missed the action while I was out of the room.

    Entries:24/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:1:25 AM

Jake Sujata opened the hijack to 25k, and Peter Darlington called from the small blind. The flop was 3A2, and Darlington check-raised from 20k to 60k, which was plenty to get Sujata to fold.

  • Lubana Gets a Double

    Level:18 (6000/12000/12000)
    Entries:25/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:1:10 AM

In the final hand of the last levels, Alan Bakovic raised the hijack to 20k before Sunny Lubana reraised the cutoff to 52k. It folded back to Bakovic, who shoved a covering stack, and Lubana snapped it off.

Lubana was dominating with ace-king into ace-queen, and when the 644J missed both hands, the big slick took it down for Lubana. He’s now playing about 505k after the double, while Bakovic is down to about 345k.

  • Final Three Tables

    Level:17 (5000/10000/10000)
    Entries:26/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:12:50 AM

They are at the final three tables of the night now, with 26 players remaining. The average stack right now is about 30 big blinds, but no doubt the progressive bounties are driving action a bit quicker than a regular game at this stage.

  • In the Money

    Level:14 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:59/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:11:25 PM

They are in the money now after a big hand on Table 24 saw two players hit the rail on the same hand. Victor Ma was the short stack, and he was forced all in from the big blind. Sean Carpenter was also all-in blind from the button.

Carpenter had pocket nines, and he ended up running out to a straight for the win to survive the bubble, while Robert Cicchelli, who flopped the nut flush draw, and was all in for the rest of his stack against a bigger stack, bricked the draw and ended as the first player to cash.

Nate Rajakumar was going to be forced all in in the next hand, with Mike Malm also facing a forced all-in within a few hands, and Jordan Banfield surviving an all-in just before the bubble, so it was pretty likely that the bubble would burst relatively quickly.

  • Hand-For-Hand

    Level:14 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:61/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:11:20 PM

They are at 61 players now, and the clock has been paused for a couple of hands. Jordan Banfield, who streams for WPT Global on Twitch, just survived an all-in with ace-king over pocket fives when he flopped a king and turned trips for the win.

They’ll take two minutes off the clock for every hand played now until the next elimination restarts the clock with all remaining players in the money.

  • Soft Bubble

    Level:14 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:62/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:11:00 PM

They are down to 62 left in the PKO game now, two off the money. The clock will be paused after the next elimination, and then they’ll play hand-for-hand until the game is at 60 players or fewer.

  • 7 Off the Money

    Level:13 (2000/4000/4000)
    Entries:67/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:10:45 PM

The bubble play is approaching, with the field down to 67 left. Just under 15 minutes remain in Level 13, with the next break scheduled following Level 14, so it still looks like a good bet to be in the money before the next break.

  • 19 Off the Money

    Level:12 (1500/3000/3000)
    Entries:79/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:10:15 PM

The PKO field is down to 79 remaining, 19 off the money spots. Level 12 has about 15 minutes remaining, with the next break more than an hour away, so it looks likely that they’ll hit the bubble before the next break.

  • Fewer than 100 Remain

    Level:11 (1500/2500/2500)
    Entries:97/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:9:50 PM

There are fewer than 100 players left in the PKO now, with the field now 37 off the money spots. Just over 15 minutes remain in Level 11.

The action is moving pretty quickly in this one, with the progressive bounties no doubt driving some action. The average stack right now is about 33 big blinds.

  • $15k for the Top Two Spots

    Level:10 (1000/2000/2000)
    Entries:105/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:9:40 PM

The prizes are in, and the top two spots tonight will both make $15,345, plus whatever bounties they pick up along the way. That’s standard for PKO events, as the winner will pick up the bounty of the runner-up, as well as their own, to pad out their winnings. The min-cash spot is worth $524,

    Entries:124/399
    Prizes:$163,181 Combined ($83,381 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:9:20 PM

Entries are now closed for the PKO, and the final field fell just shy of 400 entries. Assuming the 399 holds, that should mean 60 paid spots later tonight with around $15k up top for the win, but I’ll confirm all the numbers when the prizes are posted shortly.

  • 12 Away from 400

    Level:9 (1000/1500/1500)
    Entries:121/388
    Prizes:$158,682 Combined ($81,082 Prizes, $77,600 Bounties)
    Local Time:9:00 PM

Level 9 is ticking down to the end, and there are now fewer than 20 minutes left to enter the PKO game. The field is now at 388, putting them 12 away from 400, so it’s still looking reasonably good to finish right around the 400 mark, as rebuy action has been fairly brisk even through thefinal level of entry.

  • Final Level of Entry

    Level:9 (1000/1500/1500)
    Entries:136/377
    Prizes:$154,184 Combined ($78,784 Prizes, $75,400 Bounties)
    Local Time:8:40 PM

The PKO game is into Level 9 now, and entries will be closed when they sit down for Level 10. They’ll go for a 15-minute break following this level, putting the end of entries just over 30 minutes away.

The field is now about 20 away from 400, so it’s still looking good to get 400 or more.

  • Over 350 Entries

    Level:7 (500/1000/1000)
    Entries:169/355
    Prizes:$145,186 Combined ($74,186 Prizes, $71,000 Bounties)
    Local Time:8:05 PM

The field is now over 350 entries for the PKO game, with about 5 minutes to play in Level 7. That puts the combined prizes over $145k and climbing, with $71k of that in the bounty pool.

Mike Malm looks to be one of the big stacks right now with about 150k in front of him, but Brett Worton also looks to be playing about the same. Tyler Bourassa has about 140k in play right now, with Kamyar Amini playing about 120k, and Andrew Sabbagh, who was third in the side game last night, is playing about 110k.

  • More than 300 Entries

    Level:6 (400/800/800)
    Entries:183/320
    Prizes:$130,872 Combined ($66,872 Prizes, $64,000 Bounties)
    Local Time:7:40 PM

About 5 minutes remain in Level 6, and the field is now at 320 entries. There is still a bit more than 1.5 hours left to enter today’s game, so it looks like this will be another field of 400+.

Among the players I’ve spotted today are Nate Rajakumar, Debi Loomer, DJ Sharma, Mike Malm, Jordan Banfield, Skyler York, Kyle Dery, Josh Wallace, and Wayne Hoffert.

  • Sharma Time is in Full on Effect

    Level:4 (300/500/500)
    Entries:183/237
    Prizes:$96,927 Combined ($49,527 Prizes, $47,400 Bounties)
    Local Time:6:30 PM

The button moved all in for 7,800, and DJ Sharma called while announcing “you’re ahead.” Both players revealed their holdings.

    Button: 88
    DJ Sharma: 93

Unfortunately, Sharma time had been activated. The board ran out 63723 for Sharma to find his first bounty of the tournament.

    Local Time:6:20 PM

  • Closing in on 200 Entries

    Level:2 (200/300/300)
    Entries:161/177
    Prizes:$72,389 Combined ($36,989 Prizes, $35,400 Bounties)
    Local Time:5:45 PM

The PKO Side game is nearly finished two levels of play now with the field over 175 entries. Registration is open for just under 3.5 hours, so there’s lots of time for those numbers to increase.

  • Bounty Bonanza Begins

A later start of the day, Event #9: $500 PKO is officially underway. So far, 142 entries have gathered with three players having hit the rail already. These numbers are sure to increase with the bounty incentive and cheaper price tag compared to the $1,000 NLH.

The total prize pool including bounties currently sits at $60,528. With its unique format, make sure to stay tuned as a winner will be determined by the end of the night.

  • PKO on the Side for Monday

    Date:Jan 12, 5 PM
    Blinds:25 Minutes
    Starting Stack:20k
    Late Entry:9 Levels (~9:15 PM)
    Day 1 Ends:One-Day Event

The side game on Monday is the $500 PKO. $200 of the buy-in goes to the bounty, and when a player scores a knockout, they’ll pocket half the busted player’s bounty, with the other half getting added to their own bounty.

The action gets going at 5 PM and players start with 20k. Levels are 25 minutes long, and players have nine levels to enter. That should put the last chance to enter at about 9:15 PM.

After that, it’s a race to the ring before the end of the night.

Chris Potter, Winner of the PKO

Last October, BC’s Chris Potter took this one down, adding another ring to the growing collection for members of Die Hard Poker League (DHPL). He prevailed over a field of 325 entries for the best share of the $136,500 in combined prizes, winning it heads up over Whitehorse’s Craig Caldwell, who has been close to a ring here multiple times.

  • Sunny Lubana Defeats Kyle Dery for PKO Ring

    Level:27 (50000/100000/100000)
    Entries:1/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)

    Local Time:3:45 AM
    Chris Watson

Chris Watson just picked up another score for BC’s Die Hard Poker League. He jammed sixes, but the big blind woke up with jacks, and Watson couldn’t find the cards he needed to survive.

  • Lubana Gets a Double

    Local Time:11:20 PM

They are at 61 players now, and the clock has been paused for a couple of hands. Jordan Banfield, who streams for WPT Global on Twitch, just survived an all-in with ace-king over pocket fives when he flopped a king and turned trips for the win.

They’ll take two minutes off the clock for every hand played now until the next elimination restarts the clock with all remaining players in the money.

  • Soft Bubble

    Local Time:11:00 PM

They are down to 62 left in the PKO game now, two off the money. The clock will be paused after the next elimination, and then they’ll play hand-for-hand until the game is at 60 players or fewer.

  • 7 Off the Money

    Entries:67/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:10:45 PM

The bubble play is approaching, with the field down to 67 left. Just under 15 minutes remain in Level 13, with the next break scheduled following Level 14, so it still looks like a good bet to be in the money before the next break.

  • 19 Off the Money

    Level:12 (1500/3000/3000)
    Entries:79/399
    Prizes:$167,580 Combined ($87,780 Prizes, $79,800 Bounties)
    Local Time:10:15 PM

The PKO field is down to 79 remaining, 19 off the money spots. Level 12 has about 15 minutes remaining, with the next break more than an hour away, so it looks likely that they’ll hit the bubble before the next break.

  • Fewer than 100 Remain

    Local Time:9:50 PM

There are fewer than 100 players left in the PKO now, with the field now 37 off the money spots. Just over 15 minutes remain in Level 11.

The action is moving pretty quickly in this one, with the progressive bounties no doubt driving some action. The average stack right now is about 33 big blinds.

    DJ Sharma: 26,000

  • 220 Entries So Far

    Level:4 (300/500/500)
    Entries:182/220
    Prizes:$89,975 Combined ($45,975 Prizes, $44,000 Bounties)
    Local Time:6:20 PM

Level 4 has just begun with the field at 220 entries. That puts the combined prizes at almost $90k, with $44k of that in the bounty pool, and the rest waiting for prizes later tonight. Entries are still open for about 3 hours.
